Earlier I had come on here knocking it. I listed several reasons why I believed ps3 would go the way of the dinosaur.

So my roommate divies up the money for this monster. And supprise it actually works really well. My only big complaint is that there are some resolution compatiblity issues ect and sometimes it crashes on you or glitches but I actually don’t find it to off putting as it is more of a computer than any other gaming system out ther.

While I find it’s functioning very good, I would have to say it still has some horribly large hurtles to get over before it will find survival.

PS3 is going to have to put out better games because so far I’ve only been impressed with NFS Carbon and the online gaming.

It’s going to have to convince 3rd parties that it’s worth making games for, which is perhaps it’s hardest hurtle as it is already hugely behind the wii and 360. Although it is much MORE than the other systems it does cost more and it is behind in the “arms” race.

Consiquently I would say while the system has the muscle to be number one, there is only one real solution which will save them, a HUGE price cut big big big. SO they sell massive amounts of systems and get back on top.

If they can’t do this they are screwed and will remain in this position for a while if not the whole generation.

While my criticism of thier tactics and price point is just as relevant I want to say that I now recognize that the system is a good deal - BUT as I said before, the cost of the system and with the rarity which people will get to experience all the “plusses” the system has to offer as a result of people being turned away from the cost. It is likely that this system could still end up the dreamcast/gamecube of this generation because the good word on the system was overwhelmed by bad hype, bad pub, and a horrible cost.

NOTE: I’m getting the wii next weekend at which point I will truly know the extent with which ps3 is in a pickle (ie if i end up liking the wii more and it is considerably cheaper, then ps3 is fucked like a duck)

With the PS3, the only thing being scaled back over time will be the cost of the console as productive cost falls. They won’t take away Blu-Ray, they won’t take away the hdd, etc. In fact you could say the PS3 will constantly be improving through firmware upgrades. The PSP sure has.

People will buy the console at $600. Around a million people have shown that already. Personally, I wouldn’t spend that much on a console but that doesn’t mean I won’t ever be buying one. As time goes by, price will fall. And with each price cut they open the market to a wider audience.

They know it’s expensive but they also know it was either that or go with DVD and have it cheaper. Clearly they are thinking longterm with the PS3 and in time, Blu-Ray costs will fall, meaning the PS3 will be able to sell at a much more reasonable price.

There is nothing currently wrong with the Playstation 3 as a console. MotorStorm and Resistance have both already shown this.

Ok, maybe I should appologize for offending you saying “ITS GOING DOWN LIKE A BOMBSHELL” …that sounds a little biased, but I’m just trying to get my point across to ppl like Seed who keep hitting me with the same argument.

The cadillac sixteen was a top of it’s class luxury car. It had all the extras and cost a shit ton of money (i think half a mill but im not totally sure). Neways, even tho they had this awesome car they ended up scaling it back because there wasn’t a huge market for that kind of car, especially when a 10,000$ honda civic can do essentially the same thing.

I keep running into all these ppl who would argue, “It’s got this” “It’s got that!”. GREAT! I don’t argue that it has some of the best tech on the market, blue-ray is perfect for games because on a disk that big you can put a hell of a lot of game…but are most ppl going to realize that? Are most ppl going to desire that enough to cough up 300 extra dollars when a wii or 360 will do essentially the same thing (entertain). I’m betting that most NORMAL ppl won’t. Hell I’ve highlighted other reasons. I’m not simply on here going PS3 SUCKS!

I’m saying it’s bombing or going to and I’m giving alot of reasons. I came here to see if anybody had any better arguements for the console other than its got all the coolest gizmos - you know what - so did the dreamcast - sure thats a big selling point but I’m just curious what keeps you going with this console.

Not trolling, I’m simply questioning you logic. I would offer up the thought that it’s ppls unwillingness to be open to discussion, a stuborness born of stupidity and arrogance that is embarassing and makes that look moronic - i find that a greater embarrassment than any misspelling or grammatical error. If you have a better argument for the PS3 I’ll conceed, you won’t see me writing two sentence responses telling you your an idiot…unless its blatently obvious…and even then what’s the point.

I hope so. I want to see some groundswell of positivity before I hand over my £425.

the event in december was good. but how about some pro PS3 advert on the box and not just hundreds of DS lite ones on channel 4.

oh and some sort of date &/or pre order seeing as its coming out in march.

The PSN is great, and free. I was hooked up and online in less than 10 minutes (the PS3 auto detected my wireless network immediately). I have never experienced an outage, and it’s unbelievable playing against *30* other people in Resistance in an online game. Can’t wait for MotorStorm (the demo is very fun). I just hope they issue the update soon that allows us to download stuff in the background. My only complaint about the system is that you can’t do anything else once you start a download.

Sony’s launch was a bit flawed, but the 360’s was as well. Both launched with existing titles ported to the new platform, but at least Sony had “Resistance” (I think 360 had Perfect Dark Zero? Ooooooh…).

I’m probably going to get all 3 consoles eventually (Wii is next), but in terms of IP (God of War, GT, MGS, Devil May Cry), I’m in Sony’s camp to stay…
