We're not slamming the PS3 ads because we relish the idea of a good moan. We're critical because we care about the PS3's success. The PS3 SHOULD dominate the console market, but there are a lot of things they need to get right first. Wii is a better party console and XBox 360 has a far superior online and social gaming service. These are things that should belong to the PS3. Sony need to get their fingures out!! @11

I hope so… otherwise all the (cost of the) TV advertisements for “Mirror’s Edge” & cinema trailers for “Resistance 2” that are promoting the Playstation 3 are going to be wasted as a prospective customer base buys a cheaper console, not because of a global economic downturn and their own concerns over disposable income, but because organisations competing in the same market present the details that everybody understands. I know marketing is a difficult job, and everybody thinks they can do it better, but please do something different. The second anniversary of the availability of the PS3 has now passed. Try the novel approach of relaying facts to the general public, not artistic presentations that look like something Channel 4 would produce to announce a new series of a soap opera. Thank you. I am also waiting for the “LittleBigPlanet” videos on the small screen, or the silver screen, so I do not have to spend any more of my lunch breaks explaining to confused customers in GAME or HMV that it really is a title that everyone will enjoy, not just kids (aged 7+). I am negative because the PS3 has a lot to offer but Sony seem incapable of promoting/exploiting it. I know this because I know at least 7 people who went out and bought one on the back of me giving them some basic understanding of what it offers. I'm negative because I don't want the console to fail, and there are enough blogs/competitors out there posting negative stories and almost willing it to fail to make it happen if Sony doesn't fight back. The fact is the PS3 isn't failing, it's selling faster than the 360 did at this point in it's lifecycle and has clocked up a very respectable 17M sales so far (which will likely increase substantially at the next major price reduction and again when a slim model is released, just like what happened with the PS2). But it could do so much better if Sony start to do so much better! They are their own worst enemy, and paying for generic/forgettable junk like this doesn't help them! The fact is, I know when I see an Xbox ad for a game that it's also on PS3 - but do Joe Public? I know when I see the £129.99 price tag that it's a stripped down version of a very unreliable console - but do Joe Public? I know that the PS3 has great exclusives this winter like MotorStorm, Resistance 2, KillZone 2, LittleBigPlanet (with the likes of God of War III and Heavy Rain in the pipeline) and I know these games look fantastic - but do Joe Public? I know that as well as playing Blu-rays the PS3 also upscales DVD's - but do Joe Public? I also know it holds your photos, your mp3s, streams from your PC and plays DivX - but do Joe Public? I know that it links with your PSP and can even act as a Freeview+ system - but do Joe Public? I know online gaming is free and cheap games/free stuff can be downloaded from the Store - but do Joe Public? I know you can get a PSEye and video chat and play (an albeit limited range of) games with your hands Wii-style - but do Joe Public (related to this it baffles me Sony haven't launched Eye Kinetics 2 on the back of the WiiFit success)? The above are some of the reason you would choose to buy a £299 PS3; are any of them ever included in their adverts? The answer is no. Will the ads chosen this year help sell PS3's to Joe Public? The answer is no. Joe Public knows the Wii is cute and family friendly and involves waving your hands; they know that the 360 starts from £129.99, has wide catalogue of games, and an extensive online infrastructure which includes tv/movie downloads; but what do they know about a PS3? They know it's a PlayStation and... that's about it... The worrying things is Sony seems content to leave it at that and let it sell itself! We know it's a PlayStation, the last two-generations has made that name synonymous with console gaming - this gen we need to know what it offers for £299... there's probably many Joe Public PS2 owners out there thinking "but I already own a PlayStation?". That's why these posts are negative, for want of a better word it's out of "love" for the console not "hate"... Rant Over! @ 11 andy, I bought a PS3 because I believe it to be the best console this generation and has all the types of games I want to play (most of my collection consist of exclusive titles apart from the major 3rd party juggernauts) and I also buy/rent Blu-rays.
