I am sure the commercial release will have more “jazz hands”, less spit, and plenty of polish [that's the smoothing action, not a race of Central Europeans], but how can you say something is 25-30% better than something else?

Early-to-mid 2009 sounds just as hectic for worthwhile titles as the latter two months of this year.

Anybody know where I can auction a kidney or two…?

“It is NOT the thing I was raving about- as I made clear in a video post a week ago- but I still think it looks darn good. To me, the stuff Spike showed when viewed in proper resolution looks like a AAA God Of War to me. It doesn’t rock my world but it doesn’t look: meh. It looks like I’d expect a next-gen GOW to look. Granted, the team still has a long way to go and I imagine the final game- in all areas- will look much better. But I still thought it looked good. Fair to disagree but at least you know where I am coming from/where my barometer is set for my expectations of AAA next gen graphics.

What I was raving about has not been shown outside of internal Sony meetings. I imagine it will be shown soon, but I have no idea. I also assume that the Spike stuff was turned in earlier than the stuff I saw (that I raved about) as the stuff I saw was for a meeting and didn’t need to be edited, reviewed by Spike, Sony marketing, etc. The stuff I saw that I raved about was probably finished 1-2 days before I got to the studios. The Spike stuff I saw had already been turned into Spike so it was 100% older. Not that I thought it was bad- again- just I can see how the new stuff I saw looked further along, for sure.

… to give you an idea, the stuff I saw that I raved about looked about 25-30% better [than the Spike footage played on HD]. If that’s not exciting and cool enough for you, fair enough. It happened to blow me away and remains the best looking console game I’ve ever seen…beyond Gears 2 which so far is the best looking console game ever released.”

So there you have it, it’s already 25%-30% better than the raw HD video given to Spike, so that probably means it’s 250%-300% better than the crappy and compressed SD Flash videos availabe on the net of the copy given to Spike!!!

And since there’s at least 9 months of development time left I don’t think there’s any need to worry that God of War will be anything less than phenomenal…

I think the people saying it’s like God of War 2 are going a bit over the top, this game looks miles better! It’s like saying Street Fighter II HD Remix looks the same as the original Street Fighter - i.e. Rose-tinted memories!

Some have said this is an early build of the game, so it’s entirely possible it’s had a lot more spit and polish on the version David Jaffe has seen. Or maybe he was shown a more intense bit of gameplay - better to have a rocksolid framerate for a game as fast and furious as God of War.

There have been plenty of games that look a bit ropey on their first public showing and end up looking miles better when the final game ships. Better to start you with reduced expectations and give you a pleasant surprise than give you a CG target render of how they think the game will end up - which leaves you open to disappointment.

Whatever it ends up like it’s still a day-one purchase for me, the others in the series were amazing!

Also, I believe this is the last God of War game about as much as I believed Halo 3 was the last Halo game… i.e. see you in 2011 Kratos!!!

Uncharted looks so much better.

Incidently, anyone know why the US gets SO MUCH MORE CONTENT THAN US EUROPEANS?? It’s really beginning to annoy me now, they even get different content in Home!
