[ http://uk.ps3.ign.com/articles/947/947897p1.html ] === PlayStation Network Online Report Card Yep, you can get online and play plenty of games, but how easy is it? by Sam Bishop [The Core Experience] Grade: C+ Notes: The PlayStation 3 plays well with others and seems to be eager to constantly grow and expand its basic skills. It's always been a pleasant, simple kind of interaction thanks to being neatly organized, but ever since enrolling in class, it's been rather slow in actually learning new things, making all that eagerness admirable, but ultimately a little misguided. Being able to play with its youngest brother's toys is nice, but why not the middle child's? [Online Features] Grade: B- Notes: While progress is being made, the PlayStation 3 seems to have issues with consistency. It's as if it can't seem to do the same basic tasks while performing more advanced ones. Fellow classmate the 360 may not be able to do everything the PS3 can, but it can handle all duties equally no matter what it's doing. Improvements are certainly happening -- often swiftly -- but it almost feels like the young PS3 is just trying to copy its classmate's actions rather than fully understanding the advantages of being able to do everything while doing those new actions. [Patches/Updates] Grade: B Notes: Young PS3 seems to have a particularly frustrating quirk: when taking building blocks out to play with, it must first grab every block, move it near its lap and then start building instead of just grabbing a handful and starting the building process. Moreover, it seems that increasingly, just trying to start playing with a toy first requires a rather lethargic act of first double-checking that everything is perfect before beginning. If it's not, PS3 seems to take far longer than other classmates to get its ducks in a row. [Variety] Grade: B+ Notes: Of all the complements that could be showered over the PS3, its well-rounded nature is probably the most glowing. It plays well with just about every classmate (though the Japanese foreign exchange student with the spiky hair and questionable gender seems to be staying well clear), and seems poised to become even more diverse in its tastes in the future. There's still room for improvement, especially in sharing its younger brothers' toys with everyone else, but of all the qualities the PS3 offers, this is easily one of the best. [Overall Grade] Grade: B Notes: The PlayStation 3 has so much potential. If only it would apply itself a little more. It's clearly capable of great things, but without improving on some of the key areas outlined above, it'll never reach that potential. Also, something really must be done about getting it into a bigger class size. Perhaps we should speak with the school about lowering tuition costs... === Book down the back of the pants... OUCH!
