Comments on: Three Speech confronts SOCOM… /blog/2009/04/three-speech-confronts-socom/ We're not PlayStation but we sometimes get to speak to them Mon, 19 Mar 2018 10:51:47 +0000 http://wordpress.org/?v=2.7 hourly 1 By: BlueGene /blog/2009/04/three-speech-confronts-socom/comment-page-1/#comment-233704 BlueGene Tue, 07 Apr 2009 12:39:26 +0000 /blog/?p=4651#comment-233704 I managed to trade R2 for Socom - so it only cost me the cost of the postage (£1.50). Seems a fair price for a game with only 4 maps (the other 3 are recycled Socom 2 maps) & the long list of missing features. So far, I have patched it twice but haven't bothered to play it and won't play it until the 1.50 patch ships as it may resemble the game they always wanted it to be. Dunno how long before the 1.50 patch ships though. It's a shame to see Socom getting a hammering in the reviews as it used to be the darling of the PS2 online scene (I played S2 for 3 years straight). I guess times have moved on and Confrontation has taken a step backwards so it was always on a hiding to nothing. Giving it to an un-tested PS3 developer didn't help - SCEA really dropped the ball with this one. I see in the press release the other day that SCEA released a statement stating that MAG wasn't an iteration of the Socom franchise - after someone in SCEA said it was. Obviously a move to dissassociated MAG from the critically panned Socom. Shame really. Probably denotes an end to the Socom franchise altogether... Then it appears that the game is bug ridden and naff?! A major selling point in my opinion! lmao Now we can finally get to play it, oh, but the rest of the world has had how many months to practice and learn the maps etc.? Oh, now that would be a really fun enjoyable game to play, spawn, die, spawn, die, spawn, die.... nah.... I'll give it a miss thanks! I thought it might be worth a few trophies too, unfortunately it just feels really, really crap. Problems with SOCOM:- 1. It has a 'Modern Warfare' setting. Bad move, Infinity Ward just did that, only much better. 2. Online only, 3rd person shooter. Hmmm, I'll stick with Warhawk. 3. Released in the UK within a fortnight of Killzone 2, oh dear. 4. Countless bug issues, leading to lengthy delays. Realistically this game never stood a chance. I traded some old PSP games in today and bought SOCOM, primarily for the H/S. I guess thats why it was delayed over here though, due to SCCE's tight QA standards....which aint a bad thing Tried the beta……it was meh…….I cant see SOCOM making a come back now, it was too late and has been pipped to the post by Killzone 2, which in my opinion can be equally as tactical and stealthy etc.
