At the US PlayStation Blog Peter Dille, the VP of Marketing at SCEA, shows the amazing new PS3 adverts and explains the campaign behind them.

As Peter explains himself, ‘The spots feature some of our recent and highly anticipated first-party titles including Heavenly Sword, Warhawk, Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune and Grand Turismo 5 Prologue, as well as upcoming third-party exclusives such as Haze from Ubisoft and Metal Gear Solid 4 from Konami. I recall seeing some comments on this blog recently lamenting why we weren’t making a bigger deal out of Metal Gear. Well, get ready for a steady diet, because Metal Gear Solid is the mother of all exclusives and we can’t wait for its release.’

Steve ‘Bit’ Boxer continues our semi-regular feature on legends of the gaming industry. Following the wizard that was Matthew Smith, we now bring you those Codemaster brothers, Richard and David Darling.

The Darling brothers, who built up and recently sold leading UK publisher Codemasters, must have been exactly the sort of kids you used to take pleasure in hating at school. In common with many British games industry luminaries, they were siblings and had a distinctly transatlantic upbringing. At school in Vancouver in 1981, they acquired a Commodore Pet, followed by a Vic-20, and set about writing games while their schoolmates sneaked fags behind the bike-sheds.

Famitsu, the giant Japanese gaming magazine, has an interview with the Monster Hunter 3 team in it’s latest issue. In case you missed the news, Capcom title Monster Hunter 3 was recently cancelled for the Playstation 3 and here’s what the team had to say to disappointed PS3 owners.

According to IGN’s translation, they issued a “big apology” to Playstation fans who were disappointed with the cancellation. “Famitsu pointed out that some people may have purchased a PS3 once Monster Hunter 3 was announced last year. This drew a big apology from the Capcom reps, who said that PS3 owners should wait for further announcements in the series.”

Whether this means a later game in the series will make it onto PS3 we don’t know, but at least there’s a sign of hope.

Playlogic today told MCV that they are starting work on a brand new IP for the PlayStation 3 at their Netherlands development house. They say it’s early in development, so don’t expect much soon, but its something to look out for in the future. They also expressed their hopes to step up their presence in the UK working along side SCEE.

Here’s what executive VP Rogier Smit told MCV earlier.

“A team at our in-house development studio called Playlogic Game Factory in Breda recently started working on a new IP,” he said. “It is still early in development, but looks very promising and we expect it to turn into a great game.”

“The UK is a very important market for us. Our recent releases such as Infernal, Ancient Wars: Sparta, Xyanide Resurrection and Obscure II have all performed well and we plan to release even more titles in the future.”
