Keith Stuart finds out more from the team behind Wheelman…
Wheelman isn’t your typical movie tie-in. Benefiting from a growing sense of synergy between the film and videogame worlds, it’s a sort of cross-media joint project between Midway Newcastle and Tigon, the production company owned by Vin Diesel. The game’s not based on the movie, instead it’s a sort of prequel, following the adventures of undercover agent Milo Burik before his cinematic debut next year. It’s also an intense, intricately realised driving shooter, with gorgeously detailed renderings of key Barcelona locales.
To get the lowdown on this prescient movie/game endeavour, we spoke to executive producer, Shaun Himmerick, and lead mission designer, Mark Thompson, who gladly popped the hood and let us peer inside.

We’ve just been reading an excellent feature over at PS3 Fanboy on the best PlayStation advertising from around the world. You can check the story out by clicking here, it’s a great read. Sony have just announced a limited edition CRISIS CORE PSP bundle for European release. The bundle will include the game itself and special engraved silver PSP. The bundle will be available on the 20th of June.

IBM’s latest supercomputer, Roadrunner, has smashed the world supercomputer record. Roadrunner was built using the same Cell chips that power the PlayStation 3, and is more than twice as fast as the previous record holder, Blue Gene. For those of you who want to know just how fast that is, concentrate, here comes the science bit (courtesy of Tectonic)…
“The Roadrunner, which combines 12,960 of the Cell chips with 6,948 standard dual-core AMD Opteron chips and 80 terabytes of memory, is the first supercomputer to top 1 quadrillion calculations a second, or the equivalent of one petaflop.”

Interesting story at Variety about an upcoming biopic on Nolan Bushnell, co-founder of Atari (along with Ted Dabney). Apparently DiCaprio will be providing his services as both leading man and producer. The film, pitched as ‘Atari’, has been taken on by Paramount, which suggests it will be a pretty big affair. Nice to see that gaming culture continues to move into the mainstream. Read the full story here.
