Hello. We hope you like Three Speech and the info we’re putting online. We’ve plenty of plans for developing Three Speech further, both online and offline; to really open it up as a place for insight and opinions.
And, of course, we need you lot to get involved. So if you’ve any ideas on what we should feature on Three Speech, or suggestions for how you could contribute, we’re very keen to hear from you. (No idea’s too big or too small or too insane! Arguably)
To get involved, either add a comment beneath this piece or drop us an email here - blog@threespeech.com
Can you please show some videos of the online features, like how you add friends in and out of games, how you invite friends to a game.

Thanks for the feedback, we’ll try getting it up for you asap. keep them coming.
Comment by Three Speech — Nov 1, 2006 @ 7:22 pm
Great site keep up the great work!
I agree with humanclip get some more videos of the PS3. Also could yo get in touch with the people that made Twisted Metal,Freedom Fighters and Dino Crisis and see if they will be making sequels and bringing them to the PS3?
Thanks!

I would be interested in some more info on who exactly is running Three Speech. I think it’s very interesting thus far, but I’m curious how some of the info is obtained. Are you friends with some inside people, are you inside people, or just some friends sitting at home writing a blog?
Would also like to see more info on the online capabilities: i.e. how does the matchmaking work? For Resistance, will multiplayer matches be handled via a in game buddy list, the Sony Network buddy list, or a combination of both. Details on how these kinds of online capabilities work are what is scarce. Sony has said that multiplayer, voice chat, video chat, etc. will work but hasn’t explained the details.
Keep up the good work!

Hey threespeech. Don’t feed us anymore marketing talk like “pushing the limits” or “innovation” or how the Sony heads are “excited”.
I really want hard, cold, sweet facts like how/why Sony is staying away from retro downloads, what insane emotional heights PS3’s power can let me experience, what the plan looks like for back-compatibility, how friends will connect online in- and out-of-game, etc.
Also, more real-world matters–among other things, how often stores will restock with PS3s.

The reason Major Nelson’s blog is so popular is because it’s personal. Articles here are just like news articles at most other gaming websites instead of blog posts.
” You could say we’re semi official”
Who are you? Bring out your personality, if not your actual names.
Comment by Soong — Nov 1, 2006 @ 9:37 pm
Semi-official - interesting. Compared with other game blogs, no-one is attaching a their name or personality to it.
Who are you?
Begs the question.. are you a contracted by Sony, are you a PR company producing this on contract?
Or are you independant and if you are how did you get such good contacts with Playstation in such short space of time?
Comment by shinesevens — Nov 1, 2006 @ 10:22 pm
I’m glad there’s a place I can catch up on PS3 news without all the negative hype regarding price, etc. Most mainstream websites are turning around on that front, but there’s way too much anti-Sony fanboism taking place out there. Cheers.
Comment by Tye — Nov 2, 2006 @ 3:53 am
Once you’re liberated to do so, can we have a bit more elaboration on PS3 ‘online’? I’d like to know if I’ll be using one user name for all of my games.
Comment by The514 — Nov 2, 2006 @ 4:49 am
So exactly how are you guys semi-official? Is that some way of saying that you are kind of “paid by Sony, but not actually Sony,” or is there a different way to put it? Just kind of seems shady what with all the “exclusive stuff” on here.
Comment by ZeroSA — Nov 2, 2006 @ 4:55 am
Could you maybe find out more about the features that allow for homebrew games and applications for the PS3? Anything about how restrictive or free they are, or even how it works exactly would be great.
Comment by Redbluefire — Nov 2, 2006 @ 5:05 am
Great to see sony getting into blogging, if only “semi-officialy.” But why the distant “Three Speech” avitar?
I for one would like to know a little more about the guy(s)/gal(s) behind the blog, perhaps an About Us (me) feature, if you were looking for ideas…
Comment by John — Nov 2, 2006 @ 5:26 am
Have sales report counter for all 3 systems example Xbox360 2,000,000, PS3 10,000,000, Wii 3,000,000 and put updated last 01/07. User review surveys 1-10.

Basically all i really think this site needs is some level headed writers and alot more updates.
Comment by M,N,M — Nov 2, 2006 @ 6:27 am
I don’t mind the intrigue - OBVIOUSLY they’ve got connections with Sony but it seems they can say what they want so no worries. Keep the good insights coming, invaluable stuff
Comment by Blast 1st — Nov 2, 2006 @ 11:14 am
Espero que tenham bastantes novidades . E é como diz ali o Tye é bom haver um blog/site em que não haja sempre o deitar abaixo que já começa a ser habitual e já é nojento.
Good Luck!

This blog has been fascinating so far. And no I’m not looking for freebies
I want to get more of a handle on what music lovers will get out of the PS3, whether in terms of software or being able to buy, share, store music etc
I’d love to hear some more comments from Phil Harrison on this and other topics. Thx for reading

Looks like a PR company. The WHOIS information for this domain leads to a UK company called “Ramp Industry” (www.rampindustry.com) Their site:
“For brands like [...] Sony PlayStation [...] we both work along inside internal teams and lead the way on strategic thinking, tactical plans and, ultimately, implementation that allows them to forge lasting connections with key markets.”
“We understand the need for brands to evolve at a pitch perfect pace and to engage emphatically, to realise when best to take bold steps and when consolidation is vital. We use the channels of communication which most perfectly suit each brand. And where appropriate, we create entirely new channels for them.”
So unlike Major Nelson, or Ozymandias, or the Gamerscore Blog, or the dozens of other ones from Sony’s competitors, the articles here are likely hand-selected by a PR team, and not written by actual SCEA/Sony employees. On the other hand, most of the competition’s sites do come off with a distinctly PR feel - so in the end, what does it matter?
Now, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing IMO. Chances are a PR agency will be able to get more interviews with key individuals and convince executives why communication with the public is key. They need to keep down the weasel words (like on their own site - reading that, I feel like a pawn in their MASTER MARKETING GENIUS PLAN), avoid censoring comments (such as this one!) and admit there are problems when problems exist. This is how to engage the community.
I’ll keep reading - I’m interested in the PS3 from a technical standpoint, and I’ll likely be one of the first to exclaim “bull” when something doesn’t add up.
I think readers here (and myself) would appreciate a comment from the Three Speech team, though, just to clarify who they are and what their purpose is, so we don’t have to assume the worst from marketing materials. (For PR purposes, you could also tell us whose ears in Sony you actually have!)
Comment by Jake — Nov 2, 2006 @ 2:26 pm
Give me a break. The Xbox Attack Force is already pouncing. You guys are seriously going to suggest that “Major Nelson” or “Ozymandis” are anything but Microsoft PR shills???!!!
Don’t be dissuaded, ThreeSpeech. The loud, shrill, annoying minority out there have shown on many other blogs that they have an unlimited appetite for attacking anything with the Sony name on it. It’s too bad their appetite for objective fact isn’t nearly as voracious, given the sheer volume of false claims that are routinely shot down, only to be repeated. Perhaps if we all ignore them, they’ll go away.
Here’s looking forward to this new channel for information for the PS community.
Comment by Joe P. — Nov 2, 2006 @ 2:49 pm
Yep, we are who Jake says we are. But importantly, we feel, we’re a content creator, not a PR company. Our background is in independent media and PlayStation aren’t controlling what we write/publish on Three Speech. We get some exclusives from them but we certainly don’t get all of the exclusives they dish out; and we don’t run content by them for approval before it goes live.
We haven’t censored any comments thus far and don’t intend to so long as they’re constructive and not overly abusive!
In essence, we’re here to get people talking about the PS3 and other issues to do with digital entertainment. This is a bit of a new one for both us and PlayStation, so we’re not exactly sure what’s in store for Three Speech, but we’re certainly keen to broaden its scope - both in terms of what it covers and how it covers it (we’re looking into holding some offline events, for instance).
Thanks for reading.

More updates people!
Plus: who cares if this is sony endorsed? As Joe P. said, “you guys are seriously going to suggest that “Major Nelson†or “Ozymandis†are anything but Microsoft PR shills???!!!” minus the extra question/exclamation marks.
Comment by Fivos — Nov 2, 2006 @ 3:17 pm
“Yep, we are who Jake says we are.”
That’s cool. I’m smart enough to make up my own mind on what’s fact and what’s spin, so keep it coming three speech.
And how about some video interviews or podcasts?
Comment by Woking 53 — Nov 2, 2006 @ 4:28 pm
I was wondering if there were any plans to support streaming photos, music, etc. from a PC as I have a lot of that stuff already stored on my hard drive and would hate to have to transfer it all to my PS3. Perhaps Sony could come up with a Media Connect-sort of application that runs on the PC and allows you to grab media that way. Heck, if MS and Tivo can do it, I’m sure Sony can.
Comment by Stephen Frost — Nov 2, 2006 @ 5:47 pm
In response to: “The Xbox Attack Force is already pouncing. You guys are seriously going to suggest that “Major Nelson†or “Ozymandis†are anything but Microsoft PR shills???!!!”
Where did I say otherwise? I believe my exact words were, “On the other hand, most of the competition’s sites do come off with a distinctly PR feel - so in the end, what does it matter?”
Major Nelson’s blog is so heavily commercialized now, that people applaud and cheer when they’re told about theme decks for Uno, and Penny Arcade picture packs, and other overpriced retro games from the Xbox Live Marketplace. It’s impossible to get in a word edgewise there, and it’s also equally challenging to get a straight answer, like: “Why, when you add up all the required downloads for Lumines Live, do they cost more than the PSP version?”
Larry Hryb used to be upfront about things, and now he’s not. Ozymandias is slightly better, but it’s all PR in the end.
Anyone remember that comparison Microsoft did of the two consoles back for E3 2006, with the graphs and the misleading statistics on processing cores? Now *that* was shameful.
For anyone else who thinks my earlier comment was intended to attack Sony, I personally have vested interests in seeing that *all* the consoles are successful this holiday season.
Thanks, though, Three Speech, for being upfront about who you are. This is positive.
Comment by Jake — Nov 2, 2006 @ 6:14 pm
I just found this site, thanks to joystiq.com childishly attack on you guys. There are “Major nelson” for Microsoft, Infendo for “Nintendo”, it’s about time for Sony to have one. Don’t mind those who attack you, those guys are hypocrite anyways. Keep up the good work.

Although I own and love my Xbox 360, I wouldn’t call myself a fanboy. I’m sometimes anti Sony then again I’m anti Microsoft at other times.
I’m glad there is a ’semi official’ blog, Sony have been needing one for a while. I have a few questions though.
1. Will questions and user views be communicated back to Sony?
2. Will the RP talk be kept down?
3. Will Xbox 360 fanboy comments be removed?
4. Will PS3 fanboy comments be removed?
I hate reading fanboy comments anywhere and to keep this blog enjoyable they should be removed. For example comment 20 (Joe P) just wasn’t needed. Sony have a bad image at the moment.
Admitting their problems and fixing them are important. Maybe an interview about the bad press and how they are going to move forward with cool features like running Linux on the PS3.
Comment by faded515 — Nov 2, 2006 @ 7:14 pm
Joe.P “Xbox attack force” - yeah like that exists. Fanboyism is bad which ever platform you prefer.
Nice to see some honesty from the ThreeSpeech crew and it yes in the end there is probably not as much difference as you would imagine between this and Major N.
But it is an interesting relflection in the difference in companies that Sony canot find an employee to even put their name to a ghost written blog or prehaps do a real one.
Are Sony’s NDA’s tighter, are the employees worried about getting fired like that programmer a while back ot is it a lack of passion for the subject?
Comment by shinesevens — Nov 2, 2006 @ 9:00 pm
I wonder how many of the “good” feedback you are getting is also paid by SONY.
nice try

I’m a gamer and therefore I do currently own several consoles (including Xbox360) and already have plans on getting a Playstation 3 in two weeks. I am by no means any fanboy of a particular system but I do lean my library more towards Playstation. Some burning questions I have about the system are the following:
1. Will the PS3 have background downloading of material from the online store (similar to XBL now)?
2. For those getting the 20GB version PS3, will you be able to connect the PSP via your home router/access point? Since the PS3 and PSP will have the same internal IP…I would think this is possible.
3. For those games who develop their own online buddy/friends list instead of using Sony’s unified system within the PS3, is there a possibility to build a bridge between the system(s) and make this a requirement to the developer thereby making the user experience “unified” in the forefront?
I’m looking forward to some RR7, Resistance:FOM, excellent multi-player and some multimedia fun. These next 2 weeks are going to be enjoyable!

I have one suggestion for the page design: Would you please make the text larger? I know smallprint is hip nowadays, but I’d appreciate it if I could actually read the text casually without getting an eye strain. Thank you.
Comment by TheBard — Nov 2, 2006 @ 11:34 pm
Sorry, I should have put this into my first post: I also don’t like the colors. Light grey on a dark grey background isn’t really good readability. Currently I browse the site at 150% size and with disabled stylesheets.
And don’t get me wrong, I’m not old nor blind: I’m 26 years old, but I think usability is important.

Wow. I’m actually impressed by that response. Maybe there is hope for Sony, after all.

I would say nice name you picked there. Wish I could help but with my limits mixed with Sony’s I won’t be picking up a PS3 anytime soon.

Find a way to ensure launch systems end up in the hands of gamers instead of eBay scalpers.
eBay scalpers don’t mind working long lines, it’s their job.
I have another kind of job and I cannot afford to wait for hours in line.
Yet, I wouldn’t mind buying a $1,200 bundle.

At least Major Nelson was kind enough to give credit to the creators of the blog software that he uses. You guys seem to want to cover up the fact that you’re using WordPress.
