With the European launch of the PS3 imminent, we’ll no doubt be bombarding you with plenty of info direct from PlayStation. To get us started, here’s an update on the PlayStation Network and the exclusive games, free demos, video and extra game content that will be available for your system. As ever in these instances, we like to let you see the press release verbatim:
PLAYSTATION Network: The World in Your Hands
- Connecting your PLAYSTATION 3 to PLAYSTATION Network couldn’t be simpler
- Access the PlayStation Store, enjoy free online gaming, talk to friends worldwide
- Download exclusive games, free demos, video and extra game content
You’ve lined up for your PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™) and you’ve got it home. You know about the awesome power of PS3 and about the variety of games made by Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios and third party developers. But do you know about PLAYSTATION®Network1 (PSN), the interactive, evolving space which opens the door to a new world of exciting entertainment opportunities? And did you know that all you need is a broadband connection to connect your PS3 to PSN at no extra cost2, straight out of the box?
Getting hooked up couldn’t be easier – just connect your PS3 to Broadband and follow the inbox instructions to register on PSN.
One major element of PSN is PLAYSTATION®Store, an online store that can deliver whole games straight to your PS3 at the touch of a button. As well as stand-alone titles, PSN will contain all the support you need to add more excitement to your games: you’ll be able to download support packs ranging from extra game levels to new vehicle kit. Finally, there will be free demos of the latest PS3 titles for you to try before you buy – plus the latest PlayStation® news and other exclusives.
PSN also features a free online gaming arena where you can take on all challengers at your favourite games, then upload your scores to the global online game rankings to become a true world champion in your field.
And if you enjoy connecting with like-minded people, Home will be arriving in the near future. Home is a real-time, networked 3D community that serves as a meeting place for PS3 users from around the world, where they can interact, shop, share content and even build and show off their own personal spaces.
Downloadable titles will be on sale at special introductory prices until May 23rd – all the more reason to hook up to PSN. And new content will be added regularly – so keep checking PlayStation Store for the latest updates.

For some stupid reason the German store only allows payment by credit card. Only about 5% of the German populace has a credit card…

Sounds great, like so many others in the UK, I’m looking forward to getting a hold of my PS3, at 40 years old I’m still a kid at heart!
BTW, you guys do a great job with Three Speech, it’s simply the best UK based PS3 blog - keep up the great work, I look forward to visiting every day for the latest PS3 news!

No flOw at launch is a bit of a dissapointment. As is being advised to play PS2 games at 50hz to minimise glitches on a £425 console…

So i’ve bought a PS3 in Poland and the lack of the PlayStation Store access for our country is a BIG dissapointment. When will our country get a full PStore support and access? Why were we left behind?

Yeah, if I could only have the PS Store in Poland…..
When, Sony, when ????
