Square Enix have come out and made a statement on Final Fantasy XIII. Shinji Hashimoto spoke to Japanese gaming magazine Nikkei BP and said that they were developing FF Crystal Chronicles for the Wii, but “as for FF on the Xbox 360, it’s currently a completely blank page.”
Given the console situation in Square Enix’s main market of Japan, this wasn’t totally unexpected, but it should put a stop to the usual rumour-mongering. It’s worth noting that he didn’t totally rule it out for some point in the future, but as they have absolutely no current plans to port the title then PS3 owners will know that FFXIII is being optimized for the PS3 rather than compromised across two platforms with different strengths and weaknesses - which has got to be a good thing.
Yep. That is only a good thing. Never cared for ports. Games are always better when they are developed for one system.

Thanks for clearing this up.

To be quite honest I’m seeing more and more games like this and MGS4 and am thinking “I can’t see that working on the 360″. I think devs are really getting grips with the hardware and pushing the system as much as they can.
Considering how hard ports have been reported to be for this generation maybe we’ll see the platform war fought over titles rather than hardware from here on.
I know it gets ‘banged on’ about but I really think that having Blu Ray for extra storage is going to be a huuuge bonus for devs in the future.

P.S: When I saw “Final Fantasy XIII” on my RSS reader I thought you had scored an exclusive video or something. Disappointment!
Comment by Ben Furneaux — Jun 7, 2007 @ 5:08 pm
He is also said there are no current plans for a Final Fantasy VII remake- although its what the
Square-staff and consumers would like to remake most.
ThreeSpeech…. how about getting Phil Harrison to make a deal to get this project the greenlight on the PS3?
The game would be a must-have.

Please…when Final Fantasy fails to sell over a million because of the piss-poor PS3 install base, it will be banging down the XBox 360’s door faster than the recently terminated Sony US employees can get to the Unemployment office.
The only blank slates around these parts belong to the minds of Sony’s top brass.

Matt.
Resistance: Fall of Man sold over a million copies, and it’s from the ps3 fan’s least favorite genre: WWII FPS.
I can assure you that Final Fantasy XIII can encourage sales of a million ps3s. It’s why I bought mine, and it’s the main reason everyone I know wants a ps3. Well, XIII and the fact you can play XI on the ps3 without having to chase down an older big ps2 and a working hard drive.

I’m really waiting for FFXIII, GT5 and some other games and also for a price drop to around 400€.
In the meantime, I’m playing with my PS2.
Comment by Andreas — Jun 7, 2007 @ 8:59 pm
Well! i am so glad it is being designed around the ps3..
It really annoys me thinking that most games of the future will be multi platform and most likely look worse and possibly play worse becuase they are having to keep 360/wii limitations in mind. Not that they are bad consoles but i am sure it is a major limitation thinking about problems other consoles will have when porting a game so overall the game just might end up worse
with less and less big exclusive games around its really frustrating me lately.

If Square Enix devoted resources to a FF7 remake, it would just mean less resources for the new FF or even other new games to come out. Maybe after FF13. As to the exclusiveness of FF13 to the PS3. I’d venture to say that won’t be for long. Financial prospects of porting it to the 360 would be too tempting. However, would 360 owners really want 10 DVD discs to play it?
Comment by nmc75 — Jun 8, 2007 @ 2:37 am
I’m still confused who is doing with with the Final Fantasy Games and Remake. I know there’s like 3 teams?
But Nomura and his team are working on Final fantasy XIII but he’s directing the Cell game as well? ugh. multi-tasking much?
Anyways. I would be a happy kid if actual gameplay was shown at TGS or at E3. Make it happen ;D

@ Matt - We’ll forgive you when you come knocking on our door for Final Fantasy, MGS4, Lair, Haze and many others
Comment by Ben Furneaux — Jun 8, 2007 @ 11:02 am
nmc75: In the new world, it won’t be 10 DVD’s, it’ll be chargeable downloadable episodic content.
Gears of War only just fit on one disc, after compressing stuff. Or so I hear. BluRay is the way.

exclusivity alway rises the quality of the actuall game. And I cant call it bad, dont I?

If you only knew how happy I Am just for reading this.
Not because that I`m a fanboy just because I`m happy to think that PS3 is amazing and that if well explored it can do incredible stuff.

Dude, what are you talking about. More than millions of copies will be sold just because Final Fantasy is in it’s name. It being an awsome game (trust me i can feel it) will get even more copies sold.

Comment by Jay — June 12, 2007 @ 5:21 am”
jay has got a point. halo is just another fps. the story line is old and the multiplayer is overrated. I won’t lie, it is fun. but only for about an hour, and definatly not worth paying for xbox live. although only a beta, i played the Halo 3 beta. it sucked. The game developers have alot to polish up on, like your character’s speed. Walking as slow as a snail doesn’t really help in a fire fight. 360 fanboys say that jumping makes up for this, and i’m saying it doesn’t. what good is jumping when snipers will just pick you off out of the air from across the map!!!
Comment by Osric — Jun 13, 2007 @ 5:31 am
i agree with jay i have never been a big halo fan and now i can see why this beta sucks to be on the xbox 360 a console that produced gears of war , man this game looks exactly like halo 2
Comment by danny — Jun 13, 2007 @ 5:03 pm
hey matt man you have a good point, and its sad to say but due to the ps3’s low install base all its titles will go to the 360. if sony dosent hurry and launch some big system sellers like MGS4 every thing will be on the 360
Comment by danny — Jun 13, 2007 @ 5:13 pm
androvsky ~
you bought a $600 console for a game with no release date? that was smart.
A sequel to Shadows of the Colossus might force me to buy this machine.
Comment by Sonos — Jun 13, 2007 @ 8:12 pm
I agree with Andronix, If FF VII would have been redone for the PS3 do some of you think things would be different or even better for Sony. Also I agree with Matt, so far the install base for the PS3 is pretty weak and they have alot of ground to make up and they have to make it up fast before their big titles hit. Sonos comment is good too because most of Sony’s big title don’t even have a solid release date yet. Granted Heavenly Sword and Lair look great, but are they or will they be system sellers.
Comment by Corey — Jun 13, 2007 @ 10:28 pm
i agree with you sonos buying a 600$ console for one game with no release date is stupid , but thats not what i did , anyone who knows sony knows that they always show up strong with their consoles and their games , just like in the last console wars the ps2 completely embarassed xbox and gamecube in system sales and games and the ps2 is still bringing great games , god of war 2 basicly just came out and it was kick ass awesome thats why i bought a 600$ game
Comment by danny — Jun 14, 2007 @ 8:30 pm
oh yeah sonos man what the hell a sequel to shadows of the colossus might forse you to buy the ps3 WHAT it was a pretty good looking game with great boss battles but thats it the game had no depth , there was nothing in between those boss battles but a rediculous journey through this completely empty world . dont get me wrong this game has great potential and i would love to see it on the ps3 (ONLY) . but as of now its not even in the same league as mgs4
Comment by danny — Jun 14, 2007 @ 9:07 pm
No one on the 360 would want to buy 13 anyways.
If they wanted more sales, Square would probably port over to Wii. But seeing as how 13 is made to be a cinematic experience, it won’t happen.
And they’re already making Crystal Chronicles for Wii to get some sales.
