Uncharted has come from nowhere to feature on a lot of people’s most wanted lists after a couple of strong showings at E3 and at Sony’s recent games day. So when lead designer on the project Richard Lemarchand spoke to gaming site Kikizo to give a few more details of the game, we were heartened to see that the look they were going for was more in the vein of Indiana Jones than just another attempt to copy Tomb Raider. Richard said that they spent a long time analysing classic adventure stories and found that “a lot of things that the stories had in common, like chasing or being chased by the bad guys, making alliances with unusual characters, getting caught in sticky situations, nasty scrapes and cliff-hangers (often literally!), and a whole lot of out-of-frying-pan-into-fire situations. We like the recent trend in adventure films that include historical mystery, and we’ve been working hard to embrace all the classic genre conventions in a cool, contemporary way.”
Most importantly, he confirmed that Uncharted would have a total of zero (Repeat: ZERO) crate puzzles to solve, so if they can avoid using exploding barrels as well then they’re avoiding the top two gaming cliches, which has got to be a good sign. Read the whole interview to find out more.

I *like* crate puzzles!!

You should change the style of your hyperlinks. The link to the interview took me ages to find!

PS3’s Tomb Raider is looking pretty good. I hope they make the explosions better though in the final game. If you notice in the trailer, there are no in-between frames of animation (pieces flying apart) between a bullet hitting a barrel and the explosion.

But when will there be a playable demo available to download on PSN. I’m only going to go along with all the hype if I still like it after I have *played* it!

Unfortunate title though, at first I thought it was a sequel to Drake of the 99 Dragons.

This game looks to be awesome! I dig that games are focusing either on single player or multiplayer rather than spending less time on both.

Naughty dog has always been innovative, just look at how the Jak series looks on the PS2!! Just imagine what they are doing with the PS3.

uncharted is definetly one of my most anticipated games.
i was a crash fan, i was a jak and daxter fan, and im going to be an uncharted fan too.
i EXPECT excellent animation blending. if you recall how amazing it felt JUST to run around in jak and daxter, you’ll see why i have great hopes for this game.
hopefully they can match, or even surpass, the great “feeling” of doing your various actions.
i also hope for some cool puzzles that arent just shoot this barrel to kill guys.. then shoot these guys in the head, and then run to another spot and hide and then shoot more guys, and blah blah blah.
if theres hidden treasure, i hope theres some cool booby traps that require timed jumping challenges and maybe even teamwork with the ai sidekick girl… to pass.
anyways. this games near the top of my list. i CANT wait!

Yes, Drake’s Fortune is looking to be like a must-have for your Playstation 3! Between this, Metal Gear Solid 4, Killzone PS3, and plenty of other worthwhile titles, I’m going to be busy for a long time!

Looks awesome, certainly looks like a must-have. PS3’s Gears of War you could say-or maybe that will be Killzone who knows?
I still want a next-gen Jak and Daxter though. Insomniac is doing big things with Ratchet translating to the PS3, I can’t help but wonder what Jak would look like, because we all know Jak was always a “bit” prettier than the ratchet series on PS2…lol
Great devs right there man, Sony really got lucky with these guys…
