More news on the SingStar front. The PS3 version will come with exclusive next gen online features, including the option to play whilst downloading new tracks and the abililty to upload your performances to be rated by the waiting world - rate others, view the highest rated and build your own profile. The SingStore comes with 44 songs at launch, including some SingStar PS2 titles (so you know, SingStar shipped over ten million copies for the PS2), as well as brand new tracks. New music includes tracks from the Manic Street Preachers, Zutons and Depeche Mode with existing titles from the likes of Gwen Stefani, OutKast, Coldplay, Pussycat Dolls and Razorlight also available.
The store will grow rapidly, with updates happening regularly, starting on December 17, with the aim of having in excess of 350 songs available to download over the coming months. The PS3 version will also come with a sleek new look, new voice effects and wallpapers.

As well as having all the great features of previous SingStar games, SingStar on PS3 will come packed with exclusive next generation online features that give you more choice and more music - as well as the chance to be an online star and share your performances with the world.
It allows you to customise your SingStar experience: by simply purchasing the Blu-ray disc -which includes thirty exclusive new tracks - you get access to the SingStore. This in-game, online store lets you check out what other tracks you would like to download and save. There is no need to put down the mic as you can continue to play whilst downloading new songs.
The SingStore will contain a great catalogue of music available at launch, 44 songs in total, including tracks from SingStar PlayStation®2 titles as well as music never before heard on SingStar. New tracks will be added to the SingStore regularly - with the first of many updates available from 17 December 2007 - giving you more great tracks in time for the party season. All of this means that you’ll be able to create bespoke playlists to suit your mood and audience – and save them close at hand on the hard drive of your PS3.
Whether you’re an entertainer, a diva, a rocker or a crooner, you’ll love sharing your performances with other SingStars by instantly uploading photos and videos captured via your PLAYSTATION®Eye, EyeToy® and many other USB cameras. December will be the time to show the world your talent by sharing your best (and worst!) renditions with the online SingStar community.

* Select and sing the songs you want from the SingStore. The SingStore will be open for business from December 7th with 44 songs to download, including great songs from the SingStar range plus new tracks from The Manic Street Preachers, Zutons & Depeche Mode. This is only the beginning as further songs will be added regularly from 17 December onwards to build the ultimate SingStar resource for every mood and every party.
* Continue to play whilst your favourite songs download in the background: now you can go to the SingStore and choose your very favourite SingStar songs to bring out the performer in you - from an RRP of £0.99 per track. The result is the ultimate playlist with absolutely no fillers!
* Customisable: new menu skins and backgrounds, plus new voice effects and wallpapers to make it your SingStar.
* Slick new look: the visual style has evolved with a new look that nonetheless remains true to SingStar’s heritage and familiar to SingStar fans.
* Same game experience that everyone knows and loves: take centre stage and sing your heart out alone, get your group together or go head-to-head in competitive singing fun with all your mates. Enjoy brand new technology that enables you to reduce the volume of the original song – if you’re feeling brave enough!
* My SingStar™ Online: get involved in the all new SingStar in-game community! Here users can upload & share their SingStar photos, videos, parties and performances. Build an online SingStar profile, rate videos, check out the latest and highest rated.

With all these next-gen features, as well as the gameplay which has made SingStar a global hit, there’s no excuse not to shine with SingStar for PS3. It’s out in stores on 7th December 2007 priced at RRPs of £24.99 or £49.99 including microphones.

99p per track isn’t a bad price i think - nice one!
Comment by MrGilder — Nov 14, 2007 @ 2:11 pm
If 99p includes videos then that’s a pretty good price.
Comment by Benny — Nov 14, 2007 @ 2:31 pm
Oh no, I can just envisage more drunken party nights round our place over Xmas with Singstar than ever before… As soon as our friends find out about this we won’t be able to get rid of them. I apologise in advance to our neighbours…
Comment by Dave Vincent — Nov 14, 2007 @ 2:33 pm
if they keep this price for New Zealand/Australia then I will be happy.

ThreeSpeech - are the mic’s wired or wireless?
Comment by MrGilder — Nov 14, 2007 @ 3:01 pm
But (the silence continues…) will the ps2 discs offer any kind of a discount/download/compatibilty? I really want to get ps3 singstar but there’s little point if I have to buy ALL those tracks again… might as well stick with the disks I’ve got…
Comment by Tom F — Nov 14, 2007 @ 3:07 pm
@ 5 - Will let you know as soon as we have any news on this…
Comment by Three Speech — Nov 14, 2007 @ 3:10 pm
I don’t need to be drunk to look like an idiot on Singstar - but then I look like that regardless
Must say though in recent years the interactive games - singstar/buzz/guitar hero have really made gaming alot easier, especially when you don’t have as many hours in the day to carry it out.
Pick up and play functionality for the win!
Comment by JohnSketch — Nov 14, 2007 @ 3:12 pm
Thats also my first question. Are the mic´s wireless? If they aren´t, its not interesting for me. I bought nearly 300 songs for the PS2 version and now i have 30 on a BluRay and 40 in the store. haha. thats a joke. After one year of delay i can´t understand this. There schould be a possibilty to copy the songs from the ps2 versions to my ps3 version. Otherwise i do pay a second time for the same song. Thats a no go. And wired mic´s after one year delay isn´t next gen. So i will wait and my PS2 will stay until i have the real next gen feeling.
Comment by Gilbert — Nov 14, 2007 @ 3:13 pm
I also would like to know if those mics are wireless. If I’m going to be stage diving on top of an appreciating crowd during my drunken performances I don’t want wires.
Comment by wasabinator — Nov 14, 2007 @ 3:34 pm
the cover on http://www.singstargame.com/ contains only wired mics …. so I guess, wired ….
means more delay for me (as I dont want to buy wired ones)
Comment by bsk — Nov 14, 2007 @ 3:43 pm
Is the december 12th release date for the rest of europe confirmed ?
Comment by Jenny — Nov 14, 2007 @ 3:47 pm
I heard long ago that you wouldn’t be able to upload the songs you’ve already bought on the PS2. This could have changed obviously.
Comment by TheartistformerlyknowasMike — Nov 14, 2007 @ 3:53 pm
@ 5/9/10/11 - Have just heard that mics will be wired with wireless ones to follow next year.
Comment by Three Speech — Nov 14, 2007 @ 3:56 pm
Am looking forward to this… but what does my head in is the BS sony churns out… over 300 songs available to download from launch… now we get 44… rubbish! The release of this game as been an absolute disaster!
Comment by Chris — Nov 14, 2007 @ 4:15 pm
so we have to….. wait
“This is waiting”

The PS2 Mics work for Singstar PS3. (http://uk.playstation.com/ps2/hardware/accessories/detail/item55831/SingStar%C2%AE-Microphone-Pack/)
Why not just buy the ps3 version without mics (currently £16.98!! at Amazon) and use the old mics until the wireless ones arrive?

So the wired question is sorted… for now. But I don’t see what the big deal is, most of my experience of people playing singstar is pretty close to the TV, and many people swing the wire about anyway! The big question is still how compatible the old ps2 discs are… Theirin lies the potential rip-off…
Comment by Tom F — Nov 14, 2007 @ 4:43 pm
Wired, not wired, at least when i’ve had a few i’ll not lose a wired mic…. might still trip over the wire though…
As for the PS2 discs, sure it would have been nice to be able to get them for free to download for PS3 Singstar if you’d got the PS2 versions….
…But if you can’t i’m quite happy to just get the new PS3 Singstar, croon along to the new songs on the disc, download any songs that i (or rather my girlfriend) don’t have on the old discs, well except i’d have to download “Charming Man” just to save hunting out the PS2 disc
In time i’m sure i’d download a few others from the PS2 discs that hit the store just to save faffing around looking for the PS2 discs (but then i’m sure Sony had that in mind from the off).
But equally if i want to save money, i can just slot in the PS2 discs (lets not start the whole backwards compatible issue) and play them “as is”.
Still as someone once said… “the choice is yours”.
A point aside though, what happened to Woman by Wolfmother, it’s on all the trailers and they replace it by Love Train, i was looking forward to murdering Woman… (no pun intended).

The PS2 game is one of the reasons I haven’t bothered buying any PS2 Singstar since hearing about the PS3 version.
It would be nice if they actually give some sort of discount for those that already have bought the PS2 versions, but then you could just give the discs to someone else and they would all be able to get the downloads for a lot less.
If you can use the old songs in some way with the new Singstar, then that would be a good idea, but I can’t see Sony allowing people to use there old PS2 versions as discounts against new songs, unless of course people had to send there discs into Sony, to enable them to get rebates on the new songs, which would actually make sense, because then you couldn’t just give the discs to other people.
Or, you could just sell all your old collection of PS2 Singstar and put the money towards the new versions. In which case, it would be almost like getting a discount off the new versions, if you get at least half of what you paid for the PS2 versions.
It’s like all games. I mean, if someone had all the old R&C games, does that mean they should get the new PS3 R&C for a discount??

Could you tell us if the songs from the different releases will be available from day one (or soon after)? The norwegian release has half of the songs from the english release replaced by norwegian songs. No matter wich version I purchase there will be songs on the other one that I would like. If you could tell if there is any difference between when the tunes from the different versions will be available on the singstore I could biuy the “right” release, and would be very thankful.

Slightly, well completely, off-topic..
But is anyone else having some serious issues with remote play?
If I leave remote start on (which I obviously intend to) my PS3 keeps turning itself on! Literally every 1-2 minutes..
Don’t get me wrong, when in control through my PSP it works a treat, very impressed. But I can’t trust leaving remote start on during the day as the PS3 keeps going bonkers!
Anyone else having the same issues? ThreeSpeech?

I see your point, but a lot of games (especially on PC) reward loyalty by allowing you to continue characters etc into sequels. I would sooner eat my own hands than play Singstar, but if I’d spent money on previous versions I’d expect the new version to be compatible.
Comment by rooee — Nov 15, 2007 @ 9:58 am
@27
It’s all well and good having PC characters that you can continue into new games, but they aren’t exactly costing you money to purchase them, other then time spent in creating them.
As for the Songs, if it was a matter of being able to use the old songs in the new version, then I agree, it should be compatible, but I just don’t agree one what people are saying about getting discounts, unless of course the owners of the discs have to send them into Sony so they no longer have the discs to enable them to get there discounts on the songs when they become available, otherwise people will just swap the discs about and anyone could get the songs for half price and never owned the original discs.
I hope that makes sense.
Comment by Capeview — Nov 15, 2007 @ 10:04 am
@28
Yes, you’re absolutely right. A ‘devotee discount’ would most likely be counter-productive anyhow as it would alienate potential new customers.
Comment by rooee — Nov 15, 2007 @ 10:47 am
So, is it definite then that we will not be able to use the PS2 Singstar collections with the PS3 versions?
Are we sure they are not compatible? Have Sony made any comment on this?
Comment by Ketch — Nov 15, 2007 @ 10:53 am
Am I thick or can’t you just play the ps2 singstar on the ps3?
Comment by Dan (BBRodriguez) — Nov 15, 2007 @ 11:01 am
No, you’re probably not being thick (not that I trust Sony’s backward compatability claims)……… but I was hoping to be able to use the back catalogue of songs I’ve bought for the PS2 version with the new PS3 version, thus allowing me to use them when I go on-line.
Comment by Ketch — Nov 15, 2007 @ 11:06 am
@threespeech: Singstar will come in localized versions in at least 6 countries in Europe, with half the songs from local artists. Do you know if those local songs will be be available for purchase online if you have another version of the game? For instance can one get the local songs even if one have the UK version of the game?

How in the name of all that is Holy is this being released with just 44 songs.
It was supposed to be a launch title 8 MONTHS ago.
I would like to know what on earth has been going on in that time.
Comment by Ton Capone — Nov 16, 2007 @ 12:57 am
With a backward compatible ps3 and 6 singstar disks what’s the incentive to buy the new one if they aren’t compatible? It’s like buying 30 new tracks but without the option of using them in a current game. I’m not so daft as to spend 99p per song on 180 songs that I already own… As for the backward compatibilty claims- they all work already, I’ve tried them. Also: if each disc is about 14.99 retail with 30 songs on, then they represent better value than the singstore version, so essentially you’re paying for the opportunity to upload your performance… I’d skip that in favour of a larger library. Any word on this threespeech?

Now i would say that when my singstar next gen turns up with wired mics, i am well within my rights to demand they send me wireless ones when available free of charge!

We love singstar. We would love some singstar with songs like the beer song albums. Meatloaf, Rod Stewart, Dragon, Chisel, etc. Also there are a lot of country music lovers out there why not do a singstar for them. We have all the singstars to date and will keep our collection going no matter what. Thanks for listening
