News reaches us that SCEJ have decided to delay the release of the microphone products for the PSP. But the good news is this won’t impact on the release date in Europe, which is scheduled for late January. With the forthcoming remote PlayTV functionality and Go! Explore, 2008 is looking like an exciting year for your PSP.
Official Press Release follows.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SONY COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENT JAPAN TO POSTPONE THE RELEASE OF MICROPHONE PRODUCTS FOR PSP® (PLAYSTATION®PORTABLE)
Tokyo, January 23, 2008 – Sony Computer Entertainment Japan (SCEJ), a division of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) responsible for business operations in Japan, today announced that it would postpone the release of two microphone products for PSP® (PlayStation®Portable), SINGLE PACK (with one microphone, PSPJ-15010) and TWIN PACK (with two microphones, PSPJ-15011), scheduled to be released in Japan on Thursday, January 24th, 2008.
SCEJ planned to release the microphone along with the introduction of Skype™ features for the new slim and light PSP (PSP-2000). However, it was found that the microphone did not meet the Skype specifications in part to obtain certification and SCEJ has determined to postpone the release of the microphone. New release date will be announced as soon as decided.
With this, SCEJ has also reached a decision to postpone the introduction of the Skype features and services in Japan, scheduled in late January as part of the system software update for PSP. Solutions to enable users to start using Skype features and services on their PSP are being sought for and will be announced in due course.
Is Skype still coming to other parts of the world?

Does this mean the microphones are crap? Not meeting specs is flannel for that perhaps?
Comment by Mr Jimmy — Jan 23, 2008 @ 10:58 am
@ Savage and all - Skype functionality will be added through a PSP firmware update at the end of January.

oh dear carl - your input into this blog is becoming a little too predictable. Another utterly irrelevant profanity-riddled reply with an angry tone.

@ Carl - This is Three Speech but you can’t speak like that on here. P.

i just want an answer as to WHY we get treated like crap.If there is a good reason then lets hear it!
I didn’t spend $1200 NZ (which is 3 months wages) on a PS3 only to still get delayed games, I could
I have sent emails, to sony europe, threespeech, sony online, sony america, sony japan, capcom, capcom europe.
I have posted on blogs, forums, websites, ezines that I know Sony visit.
I have tried to find a physical address so I can send a hand written letter.
BUT have NEVER HAD A REPLAY other than, “I am forwding your email now go away”
The only people that gave a decent responce was Capcom america, when they told me that the demo was sent to Sony Europe at the same time as Sony American and BOTH had approved the demo for release and it was sonys decision when to released the demos.

I don’t know what Carl said, but as a dedicated PS3 gamer, it is pretty frustrating to be left in the dark all the time regarding release dates, lack of support, lack of communication from Sony, crazy decisions to ditch PS2 BC… current niggle is the Call of Duty 4 patch that is desperately needed… I try to defend my PS3 to 360 owners but it is increasingly difficult. We just want some LOVE from ABOVE!

i wonder if we will be able to delete the skype ‘features’ from the psp’s xmb. i for one don’t plan on using it. mind you that pointless news ticker is still on my ps3.
*shrugs*
was going to say, couldn’t you use the psp 300 cam mic to chat, but that’s not out here yet either.
any news on that TS?

Wicked. [...]
