It’s been a while since Warner announced their Blu-ray exclusivity, and the war still goes on, with Paramount and Universal clinging onto HD DVD. This week delivers yet more crushing blows to the HD DVD camp, with US mail rental firm Netflix phasing out support for the format, and retailer Best Buy planning to give Blu-ray more shelf space and recommend it to customers over HD DVD. This, along with various European distributors going Blu-ray exclusive since the Warner move, pushes the camp closer to victory – although, the final nail in HD DVD’s coffin is bound to be the loss of Paramount and long standing supporter, Universal Studios.

BR was always going to be hot property and a driver in reducing piracy to the movie companies. So it was inevitable it would win.
Microsoft messed up when they decided to rush the 3fixme out without the HDDVD they semi supported. BR would be dead now if it had acted sooner.
I guess now we know BR is the winner we can stock up on films BUT as were in the UK we get things late or not at all as usual. Where is LOST / WEEDS / Prison Break for us
Toshiba, do the right thing and give up futile efforts now, your only damaging your reputation in the industry as a spoilt brat thats been told NO.
But those with spare $$$$ grab a HDDVD player when theyre nearly free as its a damn fine DVD player
dont waste the laser life in your precious PS3.

Good idea on the HD-DVD player, If that format does completely bite the dust, the players are gonna be ten a penny

Toshiba has been reluctant to bow out gracefully. I suppose it’s hard to be graceful when you spend billions of pounds on a new format and get others to buy in on it, then you have to see you baby die a slow death.
Business is Business.

@ komp - LOL
TBH, hailing from a little green isle in the Atlantic, I’ve no idea who Netflix or Best Buy are. But this would appear to be very good news.
Now. Dear Warner Bros, please send me the entire Stanley Kubrick back catalogue on Blu-Ray…

Oh yes… Imagine Princess Mononoke in glorious HD! I envisage my overdraft getting a damn good rogering when Blu-Ray picks up proper.

Who can say they helped win the war?. I personally have bought 3 BD films from retail since Ps3 launch. My brother who has a 360 purchased a massive total of 0 HDDVD films. Mind you he does not have the add-on cos if he did for the price he may have well bought a Ps3. So when’s transformers coming to blu-ray?.
