Can I suggest that Three Speech list how much HD space Demos and PSN games will take up on their weekly update.
This will give people an idea of how much space they have to clear-out etc before installing their purchase.
Comment by Savage — Feb 21, 2008 @ 3:50 pm
Well. Looks like SCEE is still using the intern to do store updates.
With the treatment we have been getting, especially for GH3. I am somewhat hesitant to even contemplate buying Rock Band for the PS3 if we are just gonna get the same deal there. Not even getting what the European XBox owners get.
Comment by Tiran Kenja — Feb 21, 2008 @ 3:54 pm
ouch. Not a good follow up to last week’s awesomeness.
Comment by uber1337 — Feb 21, 2008 @ 4:06 pm

Comment by Anonymous — Feb 21, 2008 @ 4:19 pm
Where is Home Sony? Microsoft proved to me at GDC so far they have a great 2008 line up and there little big planet is out now, its called XNA community games which i think will be more intresting than LBP as time goes on.
Comment by sarge mat — Feb 21, 2008 @ 4:26 pm
Ok, is it just me, or there not something on this week… erm… oh yeah it’s that silly little annoyance called GDC.
videos are rubbish when thay have been available online elsewhere for weeks. Even more so when they are for games that have been out for months - Assassin’s creed?!? erm, WTF^^?
Sony could have least made some effort and put up some exclusive GDC related goodies on the store. Then the useless gigs of video might have served to entertain those of us who can’t be there.
It’s disappointing that we are behind with games, news, info and general communication from the bigwigs at Sony HQ.
I’m not going to rant, stamp feet, or cry about this treatment, as it’s clear that makes no difference to the Powers That Be.
It’s just a great shame that in the age of complete connectivity and global communities, we seem to be lagging in the dark… with no light at the end of the tunnel. At least a timescale for sorting things out/reasonable reasons for delays would provide that all important communication side, and I for one would be happy knowing that, yes, PAiN is delayed, but the reason for it is x, y and z, and we are working hard to sort it out.
Crikey, even if thay said ‘there are issues, and we don’t want to commit to a date in case we let you guys down’, I’d be more content with that.
I suspect that this is why UK/EU doesn’t have it’s own ‘Official’ blog - no offence, 3sp., but you guys are self-confessed middlemen. And you do a great job of that too.
Anyway, I said this wasn’t a rant, and I’ll cut it short there, but please - get in touch with the community of fans that are just wandering about the ether blind!
Cheers. (sorry for the length, but if you got to this bit, thanks for reading my views!!!)

I know what you mean, but on the other hand, there is an indisputable gulf between the respective networks for NA, JP and EU.
Simple human nature means we all like to be treated fairly at least (if not - more selfishly - better!)

Comment by Three Speech — Feb 21, 2008 @ 4:48 pm
I say again, where is the bowling game? & Super Puzzle Fighter? my word!! I mean don’t get me wrong, it doesn’t make a huge difference in the whole scope of things as I have plenty of quality games to play. However, I’ll never understand why Europe gets treated like this when they have sold more PS3’s in here than the USA. I know in time it should hopefullyl correct itself and I would never sell my PS3 because of thu updates but Sony come on pull your finger out and get releases closer to the states. I mean seriously, what the hell happened to Super Puzzle Fighter? I don’t even wanan play the game as I have it on my 360 but if i only had a PS3 I would be so pissed off right now!!
Comment by Carl Busby — Feb 21, 2008 @ 4:57 pm

Comment by Carl G — Feb 21, 2008 @ 5:02 pm
Wow, yet another pathetic update. Yet another week with no word from SCEE as to why. Yet another week where nothing official is said. Yet another week where the community is just ignored. And guess what, yet another week where I am so glad that I also have a 360, because if I only had my PS3 I would be more dissapointed than I already am with it.
The treatment Europe gets completely puts me off even buying games for the PS3, any dual format game I just buy on the 360 because at least if there is any DLC we get it around the same time as the US, and as someone else has already pointed out, this is the reason I will be getting rockband on 360 and probably many other games
Considering that 08 is supposed to be a big year for PS3 I just don’t think it could have started any worse for this region. Quite sad really, a fantastic console being letdown by SCEE’s inability or reluctance to embrace globalization , and engage with their customers. I wonder if we will ever get an official response to the question of ‘Why is the EU store so poor ?’.
Still, at least things can only get better, right ?
Comment by Sparky — Feb 21, 2008 @ 5:06 pm
Europe seems to suck for video games most of the time. If I ever get into the game biz, i’ll make sure every game I make is released to the UK/Europe first.
SUX2BUS.
Comment by Jetamo — Feb 21, 2008 @ 5:22 pm
I’ve got two words to describe both the update as a whole and the Lost Planet demo and they are UTTER GARBAGE.
Who in the name of all that is Holy is going to want to watch a dev video of that overhyped, boring, repetitive crap Assassin’s Creed? It’s been out for ages and nobody was that impressed by it so give it a rest.
Also stop pathetically trying to pad out the update with the absolute nonsense that is the themes and wallpapers. For crying out SCEE you even list them individually to give the impression that the update contains a lot.
It doesn’t and it’s not good enough.
Comment by Ton Capone — Feb 21, 2008 @ 5:33 pm
Really really really really REALLY poor update!
I demand to know, on behalf of every Euro gamer, why Pain still hasnt dropped onto our store. FFS, they are releasing an add on for it already on the USA store!!!!!!!
The least Idol Minds could do is include this add on WITH the EU version when it *finally* drops…which should be next week (the last Thurs in Feb) seeing as the official PS3 site says the game in out Feb 2008!
Three Speech, please pass on this message on to someone at SONY who gives a flying monkey (pun intended).
Cheers!
Comment by elephant_stone — Feb 21, 2008 @ 5:49 pm
Maybe we get lucky and next week we get a dev video of Lair !
Comment by Glenn De Backer — Feb 21, 2008 @ 6:04 pm
Looking forward to PAIN…. I hear they’re getting an expansion pack for it in US tomorrow!! Oh well, at least we get GT Prologue before our friends across the pond! (proof that Europe doesn’t always get the bad deal on PSN).
Comment by reakt — Feb 21, 2008 @ 6:15 pm
@ 27
If you are really lucky then the “Connection Failure” messages on Lost Planet will persist and you will not be subject to it’s massive level of crappity.
Comment by Ton Capone — Feb 21, 2008 @ 6:16 pm
Well done, Sony. Keep up the bad work!
Comment by Zed Zee — Feb 21, 2008 @ 6:22 pm
Is anyone else not able to log onto the PSN at the moment, to attempt to download what little is actually on offer? Although I have had an email telling me stuff is discounted by upto 40% - but no detail of what is cheaper!!
Comment by MxBcardi — Feb 21, 2008 @ 6:28 pm
Lol - just had a thought - Sony recently published psn dl figures - 8 million i think it was.
i wonder how many of those dl’s were eu videos simply because there was nothing else in the store to get?
…just a thought!
Comment by PhreakyTuneage — Feb 21, 2008 @ 6:33 pm
Ssssssshhhhhh! Don’t dare criticise our Sony overlords or you’ll make “The Listâ€.
Don’t you know by now that they know and see all?
They are above reproach and any such advice/criticism/request will be promptly and completely ignored. Best just keep your head below the parapet and keep consuming all the overpriced pile of jobbies they are serving up on the network. ULP! I think I’ve said too much, they are coming!!!
Comment by Ton Capone — Feb 21, 2008 @ 6:34 pm
oh maaan, it’s pathetic when they list all DMC 4 wallpapers just to make the list longer
Comment by hymner — Feb 21, 2008 @ 6:35 pm

Unreal Tournament III

@34 Three Speech do reply to certain posts, either on here or via email.
Only a couple of hours until we get to hear from the GDC presentation on “Home Tools and Support: Creating Content for PlayStation Home”.

Comment by elephant_stone — Feb 21, 2008 @ 6:52 pm
Er, pain has already been announced for release for next week, so i’m not sure why you expected it this week.
Comment by John — Feb 21, 2008 @ 7:59 pm
SCEE is not releasing PAIN in the EU,
SCEE is giving PAIN to the EU by giving us crap releases..
then we get a mail about 40% discount on items in the store,
there is currently nothing worth purchasing anymore…
Comment by Terrortime — Feb 21, 2008 @ 8:05 pm
When you want a game, go to the source and complain about it:
http://pain.us.playstation.com/
From the Website, quote:
“Other territories:
PAIN will be released in Europe and is translated into English, French, Italian, German and Spanish. We will enable these languages in the American version as well. We did the work so if you would rather play PAIN in a different language feel free.
PAIN is also being released in Asia (except for Japan). Although I hear we might release there as well. More news when I know it.” Posted 2.20.08
And they even have boards you can rail and cry on
Comment by MSplatter — Feb 21, 2008 @ 9:09 pm
agreed - in the case of Pain, there are details etc available, and that’s great. That sounds flippant, though it’s not intended to be.
There are a few cases where info has been forthcoming for a few devs - notably ND with the US Drake’s demo fracas and the info you pointed out, MSplatter (btw thnx for that!
- great nick, what’s the ‘M’ stand for?!)
But on a more general note, there seems to be a lack of comm’s from SCEE in particular.
I suspect that’s what has most people riled up.
Comment by PhreakyTuneage — Feb 21, 2008 @ 9:22 pm
Got the 40% off e-mail, and what caught my eye was the “flow expanstion pack later this month”
Comment by BabyBlue — Feb 21, 2008 @ 9:49 pm
GARBAGE
GDC a huge let down too…
Those t-shirts were such a bad idea if they had nothing to say.
This is getting all the more painful after MS promised 1000+ community games on XBLA by the end of the year.
For all this talk of ‘we’re listening’ there doesn’t seem to be much doing.
Comment by Genki Rocket — Feb 21, 2008 @ 10:40 pm
Just wondering. Is there actually anywhere SCEE actively interacts with the community?
This blog isn’t officially part of SCEE and only rebroadcasts information coming from them, right?
And the ‘community forum’ at community.eu.playstation.com seem also to lack any official interaction on any meaningful level.
Comment by Tiran Kenja — Feb 22, 2008 @ 12:03 am
@42
no… they are far too busy tying games that have been out globally on XBLA up in red tape to listen to the suckers on here who spend their hard earned cash paying for the huge agency fee this blog no doubt costs by buying their games.
Case in point… puzzle fighter.
no doubt this comment will get mysteriously deleted now.
It get lamer by the week.
IS IT REALLY TOO HARD TO GET SOMEONE FROM SONY ON HERE TO EXPLAIN WHY WE PLAY SECOND FIDDLE?
Hello…?
Anyone….?
…. was that an echo?
Comment by Genki Rocket — Feb 22, 2008 @ 12:20 am
Yeah the update was a bit lame! I also would like to see all the stuff the other regions have had before us.
On a side note, I’ve got my Unreal through. Oh, is all I can say. Well actually, I can expand a little further… Not as fantastic as I was hoping. I’d suggest that the graphics engine on Uncharted is years ahead of Unreals. Or Renderware’s. However, it’s fast pased running and gunning fun. No lefty options for mushrooms, but it does allow keyboard and mouse. Overall though, I think I’ve wasted my cash, because there’s no way it can compete against Warhawk or Burnout. Shame!
ThreeSpeech, can you chase up the GT5pDemo please?
Comment by LordOfRuin — Feb 22, 2008 @ 10:06 am
I like the way some of you are expecting Home just to appear on a random update… haha
Go and buy Riff or PJmonsters if you havent already. Great fun.
Comment by SH4RKY — Feb 22, 2008 @ 10:19 am
What happened to Motorhead, Judge Dreed, N2O & Hardcore 4×4 on the Swedish store?
Did someone forget to upload them or are there other issues with those games?
It would be nice with some racing games on the PSN that doesn’t require the use of the SixAxis controls…
Comment by FluBBa — Feb 22, 2008 @ 11:03 am
I have got PSN update fatigue, not bothering to even check it anymore sick of the let downs lies and delays and miserable lack of content
