Tiki Games Inc, the team responsible for the real time strategy game Galaxy’s End on PSP, are developing a new title for PS3 to be released via PSN. Novastrike is an arcade style shooter set for release in the second quarter of 2008.
The official debut trailer can be found at GameTrailers.
Official press release follows.
NOVASTRIKE is a top-down arcade shooter in which the player takes control of a prototype advanced Scythe fighter and combats invading aliens over various planetary surfaces. The player fights both air and ground opponents ranging from enemy fighters to capital ships and ultimately an end-Boss. As the player progresses the Scythe unlocks its full potential through upgrading its weapon systems and overall capabilities.
Features include:
Seven expansive challenging stages driven by objective-based goals
Free-roaming flight: there aren’t any rails here allowing flight in any direction
Progressive weapon acquisition and upgrade system: as the player successfully collects weapon drops from enemy ships the weapons themselves become available to the Scythe - there are nine base weapon systems, each with three subsequent upgrade levels
Air and ground targets: two separate weapon systems allow the player to combat both air and ground opponents
Multi-sectioned enemies where individual components can be destroyed; for example, Carriers have hangars that launch fighters - these hangars can be destroyed independently of destroying the Carrier preventing the Carrier from launching additional fighters
Multitude of enemies: the player will combat enemy fighters, bombers, kamikazes, aces, carriers, and destroyers, all leading to an end-Boss fight
You’re not alone: friendly fighters, bombers, and destroyers will aid you in your efforts to vanquish the Draelus invasion
DualShock 3 support
Uses Tiki Games own graphics engine technology
Continuing support: Tiki Games will be developing additional content for NOVASTRIKE
NOVASTRIKE is targeting a second-quarter 2008 release on the PLAYSTATION®3 via the PLAYSTATION®Network.

Anyone ever play a game called Xenon? or Xenon II - damn that was a fine damn top down shooter!
Comment by JohnSketch — Mar 12, 2008 @ 12:46 pm
yup, Xenon II was cool, Amiga right John?

Xenon II… wasn’t that the one with ‘Super Nashwan Power’? If so, I never played it. I bought it on CD for my CDTV, but it never worked.
Tell you what I would like, though… a remake of something like Uridium!

Ah, Xenon II featuring “Megablast” by Bomb The Bass. One of the greatest games of all time. By the Bitmap Brothers of course that brought us delights such as Speedball & Gods.

Xenon 1 on ST.
(I never got the mass appeal of Xenon 2, which completely lost the ground action)
Loved the toggling between ground and flight combat, and the little balls you could drag to the right location to move out of the way of enemy fire.
perfect little shooter
As for Novastrike, I’ll probably buy it.. if/when it gets to the store (unless that’s after june 12th). Still it looks like a nice oldskool shooter( but with 3d gfx)

Yeah I think I remember Xenon, reading about the features and looking at the pic made me think of an old game I used to have on my Amiga, and I think Xenon was it.
The Bitmap Brothers were ace, I had so many of their games - Gods was epic, Speedball 2 was the best sports game on the Amiga and Chaos Engine was a great game too. I hope they release their catalogue on the PSN like they’ve started to do on XBox Live Arcade.
@ katamari-ball - you beat me to it! The exact same thing crossed my mind when I read the release date!!!

Hmmm, this looks decidedly rubbish.
