Looks like the fourth release in the popular Devil May Cry series has managed to sell over 1 million copies since its launch earlier this year. Other PS3 titles to surpass the 1 million mark are MotorStorm, Call Of Duty 4, Resistance, Assassins Creed, Pro Evolution 2008, Uncharted, Fifa 2008 and Need For Speed Pro Street.

[...] Threespeech rapporterar att Devil May Cry 4 har sålts i över en miljon exemplar på drygt en månad. Det är inte illa. [...]

Must say that any game with Demonic frogs attached with evil naked tentacle lesbians is a winner in my book

@ Johnsketch - LOL
And i agree

Its a shame that Devil May Cry has to be put in the same sentance as Fifa or Need For Speed.

Presumably, these statistics relate to worldwide sales, rather than just the PAL territories, or just the UK.
In addition, is a ’sale’ counted by a bundled-title with one of the many deals that surface each week?
However, each to their own, I guess.
I agree that “MotorStorm”, “Call Of Duty 4″, “Resistance…” & “Uncharted…” are all worthy of high sales based on their respective gaming attributes.
As technologically advanced & over-hyped as “Assassin’s Creed” was I got bored with it very rapidly… I wonder how many of the units sold have now been traded-in for another title.
And yes, the “Need For Speed: ProStreet” demo was great, the full version not-so. I bought it & tried to get on with it, but after three attempts decided that it was not for me & sold it to another unlucky punter.
…and just to cause controversy here, my experience of the “Devil May Cry 4″ demo was that it was wasting valuable hard drive space on my PS3 console that could be taken up with any of the outstanding downloads from the PlayStation Store we have seen recently. Yes, I thought it was *that* bad.
I think it is just one of those gaming series that I don’t “get” (the “Final Fantasy” series, and anything to do with the talking blue hedgehog & the fat Italian plumber with the same forename as surname being some more).
I am surprised to see that “Heavenly Sword” has not made the list, though.
My money is on “Burnout Paradise” being the 10th title…
BFN,
fp.

Could it be the 9th game to sell 1 million copies because there are only 9 games on the ps3? A starving man will eat bag of sand if it’s the only choice available.
Comment by james g — Mar 14, 2008 @ 12:41 pm
It amazes me that people will still buy such boring uninspired games… must be me i guess

NEED I SAY MORE!!!!

Why did no one mention the demonic frogs and tentacle lesbians before? Sales of DMC4 are about to hit one million and one!
Comment by rooee — Mar 14, 2008 @ 1:39 pm
demonic frogs and tentacle lesbians???
*rushes out to buy game*
Comment by Paul — Mar 14, 2008 @ 2:19 pm
R&C sold > 1M so that’s 10 titles.
Comment by Chris — Mar 14, 2008 @ 2:43 pm
@ElSteflo
you’re not alone, i thought it was a bland list too
Comment by Arthur the Magnificiant Squirrel — Mar 14, 2008 @ 2:44 pm
According to vgchartz, that means it is has now overtaken the Xbox 360 version sales of this game which is most unusual for multi-platform titles.
Comment by Mister Slimm — Mar 14, 2008 @ 2:57 pm
@15 I think that is concrete proof that it’s only sold so well because of the scarcity of choice in ps3 titles.
Comment by james g — Mar 14, 2008 @ 3:36 pm
@james g, why don’t you take your fanboy ass back to your 360 or has it got RRoD? thats why your here. The PS3 has plenty of good games and plenty more to come.
A good achievment for DMC4

I was getting concerned that PS3 software sales were not good (that’s were the real money is made), looks like I was wrong to be concerned.
Good news
Comment by Mister_G — Mar 14, 2008 @ 6:39 pm
I must admit that these figures are a surprise.
It must be that there is little choice of games available as DMC4 is quite obviously a load of monotonous toss.
Comment by Ton Capone — Mar 14, 2008 @ 7:51 pm
I bought one!

I was thinking of buying this game but luckily I played the demo first. 40 squids saved……..

I read that GT5 Prologue has 1 million pre-orders in SCEE territory yet.
http://www.geekpulp.co.nz/2008/03/15/gt-prologue-pre-orders-reach-one-million/
So there’s another title which will be on that list soon.
Comment by Andreas — Mar 15, 2008 @ 11:10 am
That’s funny…I didn’t know nine games had been released on the PS3.
Comment by Zed Zee — Mar 15, 2008 @ 12:26 pm
You mean R&C hasnt reached a million.
P.S. In Europe, GT5P has already reached over 1,000,000 pre-orders!
Comment by whoelse — Mar 15, 2008 @ 1:27 pm
I am waiting for it to come down in price as I was annoyed that it was being sold for £10 more that the red ring of death version.
Comment by annon — Mar 16, 2008 @ 9:10 am
Played it at Play.com Live and to be honest, I was disappointed.
Apart from the improved visuals, and only thanks to HD capabilities, there’s NOTHING new that I could see in various aspects of the game from the previous releases. And I’ve played them all.
Although I do enjoy the series, I felt this was a disappointment. Microsoft can have it!
Comment by Zed Zee — Mar 18, 2008 @ 10:55 pm
This game rocks, and is one of the few games that I wanted to play through again (on the harder SoS mode).
Excellent visuals and a great game; I for one am pleased it was released on the PS3.
Thumbs up to Capcom!

Sortof - to date 35 360 titles have sold 1m+, however it has been out a lot longer…clearly is becoming more of a level playing feild..
