Nice weather we’re having today, eh? (there needs to be some sort of conversation)
Comment by Justin Bailey — Mar 13, 2008 @ 3:12 pm
hehe, wasn’t sure if you’d have the cajones to post this. Well done!
Oh dear, I can just hear all the whingers now. Did we complain this much when when we were waiting for new games for our C64’s and Amiga’s.
Comment by Lee Richards — Mar 13, 2008 @ 3:14 pm
Could you fix the line wrap? At least do it next time there is some content…
Comment by pat — Mar 13, 2008 @ 3:16 pm
how many times can you say “beyond a joke” before the now non-joke actually goes full circle, up its own áss and becomes a joke again?

Comment by phil — Mar 13, 2008 @ 3:17 pm
Sometimes I can’t help thinking they’ve shot themselves in the foot doing these every week. Clearly they don’t have sufficient content to update weekly
Comment by TheShirts — Mar 13, 2008 @ 3:20 pm

Where the hell is Pain? Where are all the PSX titles that the US store has that the EU store doesn’t? Even adding a couple of PSX titles a week would pacify us a little bit, instead we get shafted week after week.
Comment by ZaphodUK — Mar 13, 2008 @ 3:28 pm
Overwhelming, truly.
Comment by Demibeard — Mar 13, 2008 @ 3:33 pm
I hope SCEE are working to improve the quantity of content and eventually post it up as soon as they get it instead of these Thursday updates. Give me a reason to frequently check the store and be excited there will be something new.
The new MotorStorm 2 Teaser should be up there today really. Fortunately I’ve got access to the high quality 174.4MB AVC version of it but not everyone does:

These storms in the UK have been a real pain in the ass.
Lets talk PSN. I havent logged into it for about 5 weeks and dont plan on either. the US update will no doubt beat this. if everyone stops checking it maybe they’ll understand.
oh and I await threespeeches mystery commenter (them) telling me to get a 360 again. first of all I dont give a shite about the console war. Secondly I’ll say what I want about something I payed for.
Comment by anon — Mar 13, 2008 @ 3:37 pm
Well at least you had the balls to post an actual announcement of bog all being available this week.
What are the odds of you getting an official lie from Sony about why the updates are so bad over here?

Comment by elephant_stone — Mar 13, 2008 @ 3:37 pm
What is going on over in SCEE? Europe is the one region where SONY is dominating, in spite of a lack of trying it seems. Like the wife of an abusive husband they keep coming back for more, “It was my fault for making him angry. He only hits me because he loves me… (claws her self)”.

Comment by thedragonrider — Mar 13, 2008 @ 3:42 pm
Hee hee! I only opened this particular thread to smile at what was guaranteed to be whining. Not that there isn’t a reason to be a little disappointed, but well, you know.
Negative thought:
How many weeks are there in a year? Surely Sony could stagger the releases of goodies over those weeks, and still have some months with extra good goodies? So a demo a week, and other shite scattered about?
Positive thought:
It’s a telling tale though. I see this as not a trend in poor support from the PSN (which you may well think it is), but as sign of today’s expectations regarding next gen gaming and digital distribution. We’re peoples of our time. Expecting everything right now. There are small gripes which I entirely understand, such as titles being released in another region, but failing to make an appearance here. However, my glass is half full.
Comment by LordOfRuin — Mar 13, 2008 @ 3:46 pm
You have to congratulate Three Speech on having the guts to post this update, knowing that the comments are going to be awful. I’d have had slightly more respect if they’d done it when there was the rubbish update the other week as well.
Its a shame that Sony haven’t given any kind of reasoning why things are delayed beyond they’re “looking at” minimising the localisation times in the future.
I don’t think we’ll see much change until the PSN Store layout update in April. I imagine they’ll dump a lot of new content on then.
Comment by katamari-ball — Mar 13, 2008 @ 3:49 pm
@LordOfRuin - hear hear, spot on mate
Comment by MrJimmy — Mar 13, 2008 @ 3:50 pm
I predict the crappy updates will stay the same even when the new store comes online.
Comment by scott — Mar 13, 2008 @ 3:54 pm
Well why not do the update every other week instead.
That would give us two themes and a few more videos to download
But never mind i guess they must have a lot to do otherwise they are just plain lazy or idiots?
Comment by GeordieNinja — Mar 13, 2008 @ 3:54 pm

AGAIN we ask for someone from SCEE to come and explain this situation.
I’ve never seen customer service like this, I’m truly astonished. I echo thedragonrider without the swearing and personal abuse. This is abysmal performance and a change of management is clearly needed.
Comment by Shrui — Mar 13, 2008 @ 3:59 pm
Looks like thedragonrider @ 22 got out the wrong side of the bed today. Calm down friend, there’s no need for such a tirade.
Comment by LordOfRuin — Mar 13, 2008 @ 4:00 pm
look. basically people say management read the comments (ones that spoke to 3speech via e-mail)
that being the case why is absolutley nothing done about it?
To those that get really pissed off, I’d suggest writing to senior management or the CEO Howard Stringer. Where I work anything that gets to senior managment gets sorted immediately.
Whats worse is the “semi official” thing is still going on. the US blog links to here when asked for an official EU/UK blog. Who would actually waste their time running this site, paying for bandwidth and of course getting abused weekly apart from SCEE?
All i want on the EU PSN is the games that the US store got with 2 months max delay (farking EU non english comprehending twats) and a demo every week. Surely that can be done?
Comment by anon — Mar 13, 2008 @ 4:11 pm
SCEE is a joke. I would recommend not buying anything from the European PSN Store, but since there’s nothing to buy we can’t even do that. Sony, fire the SCEE management ASAP and replace them with competent people who care about European gamers. Thank you very much!
Comment by Geoff — Mar 13, 2008 @ 4:19 pm
The weekly PAL updates are becoming comedic, I mean they didn’t even release the Motorstorm trailer. Epic fail by SCEE, they really need a slap across the head. I hope Three Speech at least sends a copy of the comments to someone competent in the Sony office so they know how they are thought of as a joke.
Comment by Matt — Mar 13, 2008 @ 4:20 pm
Woaw! incredible! U impress me! I rally don’t think u can do more useless updates, after the last weeks. Maybe next week will u update pac-man demo? no, no. Too funny. I suggest demo of 1st pong.
Comment by ShinigamiRuben — Mar 13, 2008 @ 4:20 pm
I know its not your fault threespeech, Please forgive my forthcoming ANGER it is not directed at your good selves.
I have utter REVULSION at this weeks store update I am beyond words , all I have is REVULSION, ANGER AND FURY at the INCOMPETENT SCEE
WHO THE HELL is in charge of the travesty of this store WHO IS TO BLAME WHO SHOULD LOSE THEIR JOB how long is this gross incompetence going to be allowed to continue? This week is the worst insult yet every week you think it cant be as bad as last week but its usually WORSE!!!!!! This is the worst run business on the face of the planet
Comment by vador — Mar 13, 2008 @ 4:21 pm
Ho hum indeedy - any idea when we will be seeing Pain drop onto the EU store?
Hopefully come the store update (17th April?) Sony will take a leaf out of Microsoft’s book and start releasing content throughout the week rather than just on one day…
Any chance of asking Sony to tie the UK store in with the US one
Comment by MrGilder — Mar 13, 2008 @ 4:22 pm
I don’t think that this is just a PAL problem, the US updates are only margiionally better than ours.
I agree that Sony might want to reconsider guaranteed weekly updates as it seems to be doing more harm than good. SCEE seem to be setting themselves up for a fall every 7 days, which isn’t helping anyone. And I’m not even sure that it’s really SCEEs fault - I doubt that they are sitting on lots of good content that they could be giving us. Rest assured that PSN is still in a much better state than Xbox Live was at this point in it’s development.
Comment by Bendz — Mar 13, 2008 @ 4:48 pm
23: As I seem to have to point out every time this issue comes up, the reason people have this expectation is because Sony have shown that they can do it in the US, and Microsoft have shown that they can do it worldwide. It’s not as though we’re asking them to do something that’s impossible.
Comment by Adrian Jackson — Mar 13, 2008 @ 4:50 pm
SONY - Give us a cut down version of the developer SDKs for free. Not a Linux kit, I mean the whole shebang for producing mini games that will run from within the actual PS3 GameOS. Opening up the PSN store to amateur content is a win-win situation. PS3 users are happy as there’s suddenly lots of new content on the store. Sony can relax and don’t have to scrape the barrel every week. It would also remove some of the whining from blogs/boards — if people feel that strongly about the lack of content they can simply create it themselves.
So come on! Even Microsoft has done it and already the army of XBots are hard at work…
Comment by reakt — Mar 13, 2008 @ 4:59 pm
@37 reakt, what do you think LittleBigPlanet is gonna be? Then share it at Home.
Comment by LordOfRuin — Mar 13, 2008 @ 5:17 pm
lol, I might have to sell my PS3 and buy a second 360 at this rate, even if I downloaded the Live content twice it would still be more fun that the rubbish we get on the EU PSN store.
I would say that SCEE should hang their heads in shame, but they obviously have no shame if they cannot even be bothered to explain to their customers why the EU store is in the sorry state it is.
Seriously, if Sony want to compete with the 360 then they need to embrace online more. 1 Year after the (delayed) EU launch and the online aspect of the PS3 is still poor as hell. If they are going to treat us like this then they might as well just call it a day, pack up and scoot off back to Japan. Lets face it, the 360 has already won the war this time round, maybe Sony have just accepted that and can’t be bothered anymore. Here’s a thought about the PS4, don’t even bother releasing it in the EU because after the way we are being treated I will never buy another Sony product again.
Comment by Sparky — Mar 13, 2008 @ 5:32 pm
@ All - I just moderated a comment from someone saying that I had censored his post but, as most of you know, they only get censored when there is swearing in them. So if that was you, that’s what happened!
Comment by Three Speech — Mar 13, 2008 @ 6:06 pm
Adding the “Ho hum” at least seems to me that someone at Sony also hates the little content given.
Meh.

Comment by mikeck — Mar 13, 2008 @ 6:26 pm
one more thing, you dont think the launch delay was genuine do you?
no.
they go from a shortage to redesigned hardware (one feature crippled and a mojor peice of hardware removed) and a flooded market?
we may be dumb enough to buy their crap knowing they will restrict so much content from us (looks like that idiot was right), but you’d have to be braindead to believe that blue diode lie.
Comment by thedragonrider — Mar 13, 2008 @ 6:48 pm
Ahh! Yet again Fantastic Update, Soon I dont think I will bother checking every week anymore, maybe once a month.
Sony should concentrate on getting all the stuff thats available on the US store up asap and then bring at least 1 decent item per week and in game xmb, instead of wasting time with the more & more pointless Home.
Comment by yamster32 — Mar 13, 2008 @ 7:29 pm

With MS saying Europe is the battleground, it’s pathetic to see the contempt displayed by SCEE to it’s customers.
PAIN was down as a February release, then March and it probably won’t even make that.
It used to be bad, now it’s just getting worse!
Comment by mrfodder — Mar 14, 2008 @ 12:33 am
Perhaps Sony could sack all those staff who waste time creating themes and wallpapers that no-one wants and hire people to multi-region games like High Velocity Bowling.
Want to know something, Sony? I LOVE my PS3 and switch it on most days, yet I haven’t signed into the PS Store since Xmas. No f***ing point any more. Good job, SCE……….

Comment by Jay — Mar 14, 2008 @ 12:47 am
I was forced to update my 2.10 firmware to 2.17 before I could log-in to the PlayStation Network (to play “Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection Online”) yesterday evening, and since then my XMB interface has crashed twice forcing me to power-cycle the whole console to get functionality restored (with a rather worrying “beep-beep” as the console powered-down that, I presume, means ‘I’m broke’).
The first problem was that all the installed game icons went from being animated images to static ones and a few, “Heavenly Sword: Demo”, for example, did not show up at all. Querying the “Information” page for this item showed that the PS3 was struggling to calculate the installation size.
After re-booting, the second problem I saw was that I had no sub-folders (i.e. “Received”, “Sent”, or “Create Message”) under the “Message Box” icon. Another power-cycle, another “beep-beep”, and the messages were back.
This is not a welcome ‘feature’, nor one I was hoping for in a patch that was supposed to address “operating stabilityâ€.
Anybody else spotted any oddities on their console since uprading?
BFN,
fp.

Comment by katamari-ball — Mar 14, 2008 @ 9:37 am
Hi Carl, I did that three weeks ago, kept the ps3 but ONLY, I STRESS ONLY for wipeout HD. I really hope that in a years time there are actual disks for PS3 (not promises) of moto gp, flight combat and command and conquer games.
How can we not have WO, LBP or home yet?
Comment by cenTripEtAl — Mar 14, 2008 @ 9:38 am
@LordOfRuin.
Yes, LBP, Game 2.0 - that’s all well and good and I’m looking forward to it. - It will open up the possiblities of one type of user-created content. However, it’s extremely limited. I’m talking about Sony releasing a cut-down developer SDK (as Microsoft have done for the 360) so users can create their own simple minigames. The minigames would be submitted and the best ones published on the store. And @mikeck - yes I know the developer SDK is expensive - €7,500 to be precise. I’m not asking Sony to provide the fully-fledged all-singing-all-dancing SDK. One capable of handling simple graphics is all that we need for starters. Actually it’s nothing that Sony haven’t hinted at in the past, so come on guys, let’s have it then!
@carl -sob! is this farewell?
Comment by reakt — Mar 14, 2008 @ 9:43 am
As I’m a little bored at work I’ve emailed Activision to find out their reasons for not giving the EU stored the GH3 St Patricks Day pack. It seems strange that the US gets it, I didn’t realise Ireland was over there!
Comment by katamari-ball — Mar 14, 2008 @ 10:04 am

i would love to get into a rant with you about why the ps3 is better bla bla, but im not, i think this is a conclusion that you need to come to by your self.
but to answer your question i cant think of any reason why someone would swap, apart from they have a limited budget and there are few exclusive games on the 360 that they like.
but imo, and i have had both consoles there is no way i would go over to the dark side lol cause of bad updates.
if you have other reasons please tell me?
Comment by manley — Mar 14, 2008 @ 1:37 pm
Like other people I applaud ThreeSpeech for having the balls to put this update on. I was laughing my ass off last week when there was no store update on ThreeSpeech ,a good idea I might add. I have all the next gen consoles so things like this annoy me but do not consume me like it does seem to be affecting some people on here. I agree that when the redesign goes live in April there will be a ton of content out and I hope they just release stuff as and when rather than on a Thursday. This whole hyping it up every week, only to get to Thursday and be disappointed really is not good for peoples health.:-)
Comment by Carl Busby — Mar 14, 2008 @ 1:50 pm
The games i got, played and loved on my ps3 were rainbow six, oblivion, RFOM. I got Motorstorm and virtua fighter too but didn’t like them.
I regret buying a ps3 when i did because for a year i also wanted a fix of acecombat, c&c and mogo gp… not being a big movie buyer, what did ps3 do for me?
For someone like me who was used to PS3 store, the amount of demos on LIVE was staggering.

i see your point.
but it was always going to be that way, we all knew, well i did, that it would take i while for the AAA games to hit the market.
and as for the network,,,, well it was a bit better before but has always been a bit pants.
but at the moment there are enough AAAgames out on the ps3 to keep anyone busy, so my original comment about carl were founded, i,e. carl swaping to xbox now is just crazy.
maybe at the beggening people should have waited for a while before they purchased the ps3, but in saying that i believe alot of people have and that is why the sales are on the increase right now!

Major security vulnerability discovered for PlayStation Network, lock up your PS3s
Posted Mar 27th 2008 12:55AM by Ryan Block
Filed under: Gaming
Details are still sparse (and primarily in Japanese), but our Tokyo bureau just let us know that Sony’s announced a fairly severe security vulnerability on the PlayStation Network, which would actually allow an attacker to access your account, personal information, and Wallet — but not your credit card on file — as well as change your password. Damn. More on this as it develops; in the mean time, keep a close eye on that account.
Update: More information is on the US PS3 site. Apparently the issue has been resolved and “security is restored.” Thanks, luckydude76.
