Big news!
On April 15th, in conjunction with firmware 2.30, the new look PSN will launch with improved navigation, more functionality and a whole raft of new content.
Click the link for more info and pictures…
The revamp comes in response to a survey last year which showed that many PLAYSTATION Store users wanted a better interface and easier navigation. The new design will deliver a hugely improved navigation system, much greater scope for categorisation and a dynamic new user interface.
To accompany the launch, the PLAYSTATION Store will see an exciting selection of content available from 17th April, consisting of the launch of the Metal Gear Online Premiere Beta, building up to the launch of the next chapter in one of PlayStation’s most loved franchises, Metal Gear Solid: Guns of the Patriots. Also available will be Warhawk™: Operation Broken Mirror, a great new addition to the hugely popular Warhawk experience and Lair™: Diabolical Dragons Pack and Skyguard Upgrade pack, offering new and exciting features and functions. There will also be a collection of trailers including the latest for GTA IV, as well as a Sega Superstars tennis demo.
The PLAYSTATION Store revamp will not affect PLAYSTATION Network accounts or the virtual wallet system.

I has to be said.
The European Store looks better than the U.S one.
VAG Rounded Bold plastered on everything for the lose.
Though those icons still need some work.
Metal Gear Online Beta Download = THANK YOU.

@Tony
You have the Beta?
That the American April 17th Beta or new European?
I have a slip/code for the American but was under the impression we couldn’t participate i.e. region locked??

Why o Why is Three Speech so slow on getting new, the updated store release date was dated yesterday. PLEASE WORK HARDER THREE SPEECH.
Also can you explane the Three Speech staff structure so we can see who is not pulling the weight
JohnSketch seems to be keeping this site going all by himself
Comment by Greg — Apr 11, 2008 @ 10:58 am
So does this mean an end to update Thursdays, or are there new processes in place for Sony to manage worldwide stores more efficiently? Would be nice to know what operations are behind the store front. I’m sure we’ll see in the coming weeks.
Comment by MrJimmy — Apr 11, 2008 @ 10:59 am
Woo! Can’t wait!
Also what ever happened to post number 1000? this is number 1001 and the last one was 999

No Greg, Sony Japan jumped the gun and announced THEIR store was to be launched on the 15th…SCEE had yet to confirm.
Comment by mikeck — Apr 11, 2008 @ 11:01 am
@Greg
The official announcement of this was at 10am this morning, when the press release was sent out via email and on the SCEE press site.
This article went up at 10.23.
23 minutes to get a blog post together isn’t exactly what I would call ’slow’.
Three Speech operates in the UK and as such, is focused on European news. This news relates to the European Store redesign.
Come on, get your facts right and give them a break.

@lxd this is article 1000 (kinda)
Sometimes (if you get bored and poke around) you’ll see that some entries have been created/wiped off face of planet/recreated with counter incrimenting as it goes….
That’s the namby pamby explanation - i like to think of it personally as the Network Pixies stealing news articles in punishment for everyone being naughty and posting whilst meant to be hard at work and getting on with their employment!
Comment by JohnSketch — Apr 11, 2008 @ 11:06 am
Suprised Three Speech haven’t mentioned the DTS Master Audio decoding that also comes with this update - a brilliant breakthrough for Blu Ray fans.
Now… just have to wait until the big tech companies start selling Master Audio capable surround systems!
Comment by Tony — Apr 11, 2008 @ 11:11 am
Employment’s for idiots…

Comment by elephant_stone — Apr 11, 2008 @ 11:33 am
You know…I really dont see the point of having a PS Store.
Once HOME comes I think they should really be selling stuff in an online shop within HOME.
Comment by komp — Apr 11, 2008 @ 11:40 am
…and Home 1.0? Will Home be opened up to everyone on Thursday as well?.. Come on Three Speech - you’d tell us if you knew something, right?

Japan Announced it yeaterday as we all know it is a world wide release.
Comment by Greg — Apr 11, 2008 @ 11:54 am
i believe that would apply to this EU site
Comment by Greg — Apr 11, 2008 @ 11:56 am
To clear up confusion. The MGS:Online Beta is completely open in Europe. In the US you can only access it with a code which you get when pre-ordering MGS4. So we are actually getting the sweet deal for once!
I like the new look store, the transitions and stuff are very like Singstar which is nice and smooth. Hopefully it will be better laid out and less PC-like which always annoyed me.

Bit of a stupid question but on http://www.konami.jp/mgo/en/index.html it says that the Metal Gear Online beta is available to download from 17th April, but the premier beta starts 21st April. Does that mean we can download it on Thursday but it won’t be available to play until Monday?

Comment by MrJimmy — Apr 11, 2008 @ 2:55 pm
great news about the store update! but the firmware update is LAAAMME! HD sound??? WTF? “ooh listen, the lil birdie singing in the tree, in the far distance of the scene sounds like its………well singing in the far distance of the scene!” “ooh did u hear the car screech off in HD?” FUCK OFF SONY! have we all not bought enough of your products to use with the PS3 without you subliminally selling us all HD theatre systems too?
just get on with it, and give us a PROPER all round user interface that should be in-game XMB!! HD sound- do me a favour u muppets. the only ppl who benefit are “HD” sound system owners (once again, HD sound?WTF??) or the ppl ur influencing into spending god knows how many hundreds of pounds on “HD” (pathetic isn’t it?) sound systems!
if any1 on here doesn’t see my point (ul know who u r!) then ur a muppet also!

@while you @ it, where is hv bowling?????????
Comment by freespeech — Apr 11, 2008 @ 4:00 pm
ooh, look at all the big adverts inviting us to spend money.
2.30 does nothing for me. HD sound? yeah riiiiiiiight.
and as for the content, a couple of demos and add on packs. hardly the uberfest we were promised is it.
Comment by mobiletone — Apr 11, 2008 @ 5:31 pm
Osssum! Yeah I know it’s spelt wrong, just so excited forget how to type for second there
Comment by Mister_G — Apr 11, 2008 @ 5:34 pm
I agree with 43. Sony waists it’s time with nonsense like HD audio, when the ps3 STILL doesn’t have adequate online functionality.
Why are they doing up the store when they never give EU any content?
Comment by meh — Apr 11, 2008 @ 5:53 pm
what happened to the cod4 maps we were supposed to be gettin when the new store launches
Comment by gaz — Apr 11, 2008 @ 6:27 pm
All looks nice and shiny, but still no ability to download restricted versions of games to try before you buy? This is one of the best features of the XBL Arcade as there is no risk. You don’t like the game once you’ve played the demo, delete it.
Don’t worry about all this DTS-MA & in-game XMB!

Is it just me, or is the “link” missing in the news article above?
By the way, all the improvement to the PSN Store seems to tell me is that Sony got the first attempt wrong and the second, well…that remains to be seen.
Comment by Zed Zee — Apr 11, 2008 @ 10:57 pm
Ah, this is more like it - a web-based store designed to be used with a console pad. How thoughtful!

Super Stardust PAL
The update for SSHD in PAL territories on the new store is faulty. No new modes appear when it is purchased from the new store.
lovely new store other than this issue and the non loading of pictures and the retarded family game section and no psone section. the scea store has better lay out and their Super Stardust upgrade works
Comment by lee — Apr 15, 2008 @ 7:06 am
Why SCEE did you have to screw up the layout on the new PAL PSN store? The US version is so much better.
No section for Demos and no option to view all titles by alphabetical order.
Please take a look at the US store and redo the EU store.

“We’ve gathered feedback from users and responded, dramatically improving the navigation system. It’s now much easier to browse the PLAYSTATION Store’s impressive catalogue of innovative games, High Definition trailers and classic PlayStation titles.”
May i be the first to say… Who the hell are they trying to kid? If ‘improved’ means that thumbnail icons take about 7 minutes to load. And ‘impressive catalogue of innovative games’ means about 6 games that any school child could come up with given half an hour with macromedia flash. And i know that given the rules of the english language, more than one thing means that it’s plural and can have a ‘S’ added to the end to indicate the fact, but i wouldn’t be so bold as to advertise ‘classic playstation titles’ if that number didn’t go over single digits. Who are these people that they have taken this feedback from exactly?
