MGO Beta Free Download For All Europeans: No Pre-Order Needed
Konami have confirmed the news we all wanted to hear. Metal Gear Online beta will be available to us Europeans. Konami made the following statement “Metal Gear Online Premiere Beta will be available as a free download on the Playstation Store from April 17th until May 6th.” Awesome!
Details on the beta are below:
“The beta phase features two maps, four gameplay modes, the SOP System that encourages up to 16 players to team up and share information, and deep skill-customization. Also equipped with auto-matching and training modes, the game offers players a sneak peak of this totally new approach to console-based competitive gaming.”
Isn’t it nice right now? Good news everywhere I look, GTAIV, MGS, new life in UTIII and Warhawk - I am a happy bunny.

I’d resigned myself to thinking that I wouldn’t get to experience this until I bought the game, so when I read this it took me a moment to realise that a rather inappropriately large smile had crept across my face. Just hope no-one else in the office noticed!

Comment by E-ROLE — Apr 11, 2008 @ 4:03 pm
Really looking forward to playing this Beta!
Comment by Chris — Apr 11, 2008 @ 4:18 pm
The beta is live on the store from the 17th, the MGO servers go live from the 21st until the 6th of May, when the servers are closed and the beta is removed from the PS store.
It’s open to anyone who can access a PAL store (EU, AU, NZ, SA, UAE)…good times!

Isn’t this title the very same as here? : http://www.ripten.com/2008/04/11/mgo-free-download-for-all-europeans-no-pre-order-needed/
Just wondering if Threespeech credits its sources?

Prepare the PSN servers for meltdown, this is going to be great. Bagsy first on the catapult.
Comment by Dan — Apr 11, 2008 @ 4:53 pm
@12 - you mean the Beta will run only for 3.5 weeks, and then they’ll turn off the servers ?
Awww - I was hoping for a free, AAA game :o)
Comment by Andy — Apr 11, 2008 @ 4:53 pm
This is very good news. Well done SCEE

PS Store update, DTS HD MA and now an open beta of MGO, this is going to be a killer week for Sony.
PS3 gets better and better and with the in-game messaging in 2.40 and Home out soon it looks like Sony is getting it’s act together.
Comment by Taz — Apr 11, 2008 @ 6:04 pm
Really is fantastic news, thought that Europe wasn’t going to get a chance at the beta at all but now we have ended up with the better deal compared to North America. Mind you I have MGS4 pre-ordered anyway but its still great that everyone will have access to it
Comment by Ravenblade86 — Apr 11, 2008 @ 6:12 pm
If if avalible to any one on the EU store. why cant any one just make a european psn account and download the beta. There has to be something to stop this if not the beta will just be open to the world.
Comment by Ryne — Apr 11, 2008 @ 6:16 pm
Can’t wait for this, don’t mean to blow my own trumpet but I was in the top 10 in the original MGO so I can’t wait to jump on this! Yay SCEE! Yay Konami!
Comment by Dave — Apr 11, 2008 @ 6:44 pm
YAY now that is more like it
Comment by carl — Apr 11, 2008 @ 6:45 pm
@21
It’ll probably be limited to PAL region servers so NA users qill probably find it extremely laggy.
And since most Americans are getting it anyway through preorders there’s not as much incentive to create an EU account. Our store’s pretty shoddy compared to NA and JP.
Comment by cn — Apr 11, 2008 @ 7:30 pm
@ Fersis (7):
If you live outside europe but have a european PSN account you will be able to download the beta, but there is no guarantee that you will be able to play it.

Two questions:
1. What is the release date for MGS4?
2. Is MGO shipping as part of MGS4 (a la Counterstrike), or will it be a standalone product?
Comment by rooee — Apr 12, 2008 @ 9:00 am
Thank you Konami!!!
Best news ever!
Comment by SoliidSnaake — Apr 12, 2008 @ 1:26 pm
1. 12th June
2. As a part of MGS4
Can’t wait for the beta! In fact, offering the beta is as good as a demo really, as you get to grasp the controls, get a feel for the world, but no story ruining spoilers. I for one will have to be avoiding the internet around the release date…
Comment by Liquidcalm — Apr 12, 2008 @ 5:15 pm
yay, while 360 owners get re-makes of old ps2 games (bully any1 lol) we get metal gear online for free!! (well, a demo but gd enough for now)
always had faith in my decision to wait for ps3, and now the rewards are being reaped for my patience.
God bless Kojima San!
Comment by gareth — Apr 13, 2008 @ 2:10 pm
In europe we are very pleased that we have this beta, I hope that the Americans also have.
The European store is much less than the American and Japanese, with continued delays in the game and I hope that all the stores are at the same level of content
Forgive my English I speak only Spanish
A greeting to all players playstation.

Always count on Kojima to do right by his European fans. Even though we got MGS games later than people in Japan and that other region we could always console ourselves with the fact that when we got the game we got something extra for the wait. Now even with the wait eliminated it seems that Kojima still has love left for Europe.
Cheers mate!

Kojima forever =)

The design of the European version of the store, as in the way games/demos/etc… are categorized and divided, compared to the organization and sorting features in the U.S. store is appalling.
Where is a View All function ?
Why is not all content related to a single game grouped together when we view that game’s page (example: people would like to look up Pixeljunk monsters and see the game, demo*, trailer, themes, etc.) ?
What made people over at SCEE think that we needed to use a set of categories different from:
Newest Releases — PS Eye Games — PSP Games — PSone Classics — View by Genre — View by Title
which is the format used for the US PSN Store (can you honestly say that the organization of the EU PSN Store is better or even at the same level of usability and polish compared to the US PSN Store ?) ?
Will the people responsible for the EU PSN Store interface organization turn their pride down a notch and take a serious, impartial, detached, and common sense based look at both US and EU PSN Stores are think about which one allows the customer to browse and reach the content he or she wants in the easiest and more intuitive way ? (hint: it is not the EU PSN Store)
SCEE should be ashamed of itself: once again Europe is their “comeback/fortress” area and they keep under delivering compared to what they offer to the U.S. consumers which are perhaps more demanding than EU consumers are and so yes it is our fault too…
I know there are probably a lot of people hard working at SCEE that realize that thier jobs will be on the line (before the jobs of their top management) when the day EU/PAL consumers start becoming as demanding as the US/Japanese ones and that turns out in Europe/PAL Area not guaranteeing Sony any safe net for sales/market penetration of their new Hardware.
There is a limit to how much the EU Consumers (thanks ton Internet it is much easier to hear/see how other consumers are treated abroad) will take the way they are treated and repeating them that no matter the price, the delays, the way they are treated they end up buying anyways (hello Mr. Reeves) as much if not more than other territories does not help your cause either. Let’s not talk about Software pricing: 49.99 Euros for PSP games that sell for $29.99 in the U.S.?
When PS4 and PSP2 are launched and the competition from Nintendo and Microsoft will be fiercer than ever would you like EU consumers to face you with a negative or positive attitude (which could shadow whatever great evolution/innovation you have brought with either product?) ? Do you want them to have good or bad prejudices against your products and the value you offer them ?
Are you willing to bet your jobs that consumer discontent will never end up turning into your products tanking at retail just because it seemed to have worked in the past ?
Are you willing to keep under-delivering to EU consumers even though it would not cost you more to do a better job (to do a bad job it takes you about the same amount of time and money if not more than it takes you to do a good job at the start… and again turn your pride down a notch and realize you are not doing a good enough job) and how much you could be punished by keeping on tarnishing your reputation bit by bit (are you willing to bet that you will know when shit hits the fan before it is too late to quickly reverse consumer’s trends ?)?

no reaction to this great comment hum? i also mentioned it in the offical forums but no one really cared. all of them were busy with getting manloved by SCEE. its hard to understand, why SCEA works better than SCEE, although both are part of sony.
