Big news from SCEI. Check the official press release below
SCE WWS Senior Vice President Shuhei Yoshida Assumes Responsibilities
Tokyo, May 16, 2008 – Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) today announced the appointment of Shuhei Yoshida, Senior Vice President, Product Development, Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. (SCEA), as President of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios (SCE WWS), effective May 16, 2008.
Yoshida joined SCEI in 1993, and was one of the initial members in establishing the PlayStation® business. He was appointed Producer of the Product Development Department in April 1996, and joined SCEA as Vice President of Product Development in April 2000, where he held various positions in product development, producing many global best selling franchise titles. In February 2007, Yoshida was promoted to Senior Vice President, Product Development, SCEA, which is a part of SCE WWS.
“SCE WWS has been developing global hit titles, sharing resources and know-how within SCE Group since its foundation, and we will reinforce our software business by further enhancing coordination among the studios under a new leader,” said Kazuo Hirai, President and Group CEO, SCEI. “Under the leadership of Yoshida, who has proven track record in managing creative talent, SCE WWS will accelerate the software development for the PLAYSTATION®3 and PSP® (PlayStation® Portable) platforms and vigorously expand the gaming market.”

maybe he will be able to tell us where wipeout HD is?

I am not trying to be controversial [for once], but is this announcement actually “Big news”?
Many sites are reporting (or, rather, transposing) this (virtual) press release this morning (in the absence of anything else to publish), and after every article I’ve read I’m still none the wiser why Shuhei Yoshida was picked about anybody else.
Some reports are saying that this appointment is to fill the “hole left” by Phil Harrison.
But this isn’t the same role as Phil had is it?
Either way… I’ll pre-empt the question from the regularly contributing parties… does this mean that the DUALSHOCK 3 controller will be released in the UK any sooner?

Would rather he be the new “face” of sony rather than Kaz, a bit harsh I know but everytime that man opens his mouth all I hear is “rhubarb rhubarb rhubarb money money rhubarb rhubarb na na nana naaaa we are cooler than you”

@fanpages
i was going to lead with that question but i thought that davec will be here soon to ask of its whereabouts!

“…was picked about anybody else” should read
“…was picked ABOVE anybody else”
My Engrish not good. My bad. To be fair, my MS-Word Grammar checker didn’t pick this up (and neither did my Grandpa checker either), so I guess this is how people talk at Micro$o£t too… “rhubarb, rhubarb, rhubarb, [MS-]money, money, money, could be funny, we have just bought another Company, in a rich man’s world”.
(Portions of this comment by me)
ThreeSpeech… can you implement an Edit Comment feature, please?
And… change the RSS feed/hyperlink references to point to the comments to which they refer rather than the top of the blog entry?
(This may be an ‘anchor’ issue in the rendered HTML)
Oh, and whilst you have a spare moment [! ;)], please could you ask your contacts at Sony why I had to download an update (1.10) to my “Toy Home (*Demo*)” 300Mb larger than the original download this week only to be told “The copyright protection information is invalid (80029513)”?
I wouldn’t mind purchasing the full version, but if there is an issue with delivery then I’d sooner keep my £4.99 & my sanity intact.
Thanks.
BFN,
fp.

Yes, I thought that too, but I didn’t like to name names.
Constantly asking about the DUALSHOCK 3 controllers gives the wireless “SingStar” microphones topic a break, I guess.
And “Home”.
And backward compatibility.
And in-game XrossMediaBar access.
And “Grand Theft Auto IV” freezing.
(I know I’m asking for trouble here, but I wasn’t *that* impressed with the PlayStation Store update this week, but if wallpapers & themes interest everybody else I’m not going to mention it. But as I’ve said before, it’s free so nobody can really complain. But I’ll probably be proven wrong there too!).

@fanpages haven’t you forgot about the usual moanings about how the US gets all the great stuff months before the EU yada yada yada, then they will then complain about it when it does arrive!
got to love it though, makes me laugh!

@fanpages - about the updates and themes - I feel lucky I don’t live in Hong Kong - where Sony are charging people to download themes! I mean I like ‘em but wouldn’t pay for them. They’re generally done as promotional material for games anyway. The new Warhawk themes are great by the way but I’ve not seen an official theme as good as some of the homemade ones from the likes of m0dus and others.

Insider: Exclusive information about 2.40 and beyond
Hey its me, whoelse again! Before I start, I need to say one thing. All of the following information has come from an insider I am in contact with and everything isn’t ’set in stone’. Things can change a lot, especially when it involves Sony. If any of the information is wrong, its because plans have changed and not because it was made up.
2.40 should include:
* Access your XMB chat features from any game.
* 2D trophies from the XMB where 70% of current titles will support them straight away
* Video Coding and groundwork for the Movie Store (Out Sept)
My insider says 2.40 should arrive before MGS4 comes out however not all of the above features will 100% make it into the update.
Oh and Online Co-op for Super Stardust HD is in the works.

DevelopMag.com have an “exclusive interview…the first Q&A with Shuhei Yoshida” [!]…
[ http://www.developmag.com/interviews/216/Meet-the-new-Boss ]
A choice quote from the article:
“I think that we have more projects that we want to do than we do have resources. So, the cancellation of Eight Days was not necessarily because that project was failing, but because we looked at how it fit in the portfolio and where it fit as a production.”
Also please note:
“In part two of the interview, we discuss Yoshida’s career at PlayStation and his wider strategy for the global Sony studio operation. Check back on June 17th for the second half.”
