Good interview with Ryan Payton, producer of PS3 game of the moment, Metal Gear Solid 4. No doubt Ryan is a very happy man right now.

In contrast, a not such a glowing post-game-play review:

@3 A dead link and also not very useful or helpful.

@3 [anthonyp]:
The trouble with a gaming audience is a lack of patience. The link does work. Give it chance. With the cut scenes in “Guns of the Patriots” you should be used to waiting
Everybody has their own opinion, so you are entitled to your own. I found the content worthwhile. You may not agree with me, or indeed some, or all, of the points in the link, but it is feedback that a majority of reviewers are scared of giving in case they do not get access to an advance copy of other titles.
Surely a “Post Mortem” indicates a lifeless subject matter. Not everybody is carried along with the hysteria of marketing. Some of us appreciate balanced reviews, not gushing praise for the sake of it because it helps sell magazines or attract visitors to web sites.
We had similar critical rhetoric for the latest in the “Grand Theft Auto” franchise, and every other over-hyped title will repeat the process. If I had a point, it was that those of us who do not share the same opinion of the “Metal Gear” series should be allowed to put our thoughts forward without the fear or recrimination.
I am sorry if you disagree.
Another article on InfoAddict.com entitled “10 Things That Suck About the Videogame Industry” was also interesting subject matter.
I have no connection (that I am aware of) to the site or to the author of the articles, in case you were wondering.
I may not agree with every point made, but I can appreciate a different point of view to my own.
BFN,
fp.

@fp - the hype is what is really rubbing me up the wrong way about the games industry lately. in the same way we get ‘cult’ films and ‘classic’ albums before they have even been released. surely something can only obtain this status through the passing of time. a good game does not need the hype, same as anything, if it is good it will sell itself.
personally i think R-Type: Final is probably the greatest arcade game ever written. you can keep the Tekken 5s etc of this world, i know what makes me happy.
i may not like the MG series, but you can’t argue with it’s place in playstation history.
