This week Keri brings us Crypto, from Destroy all Humans.

Cryptosporidium, known as Crypto for short, is (in all his clone forms) the wise-cracking Furon from the series Destroy all Humans. Pretty much an anti-hero, he’s always been, for me at least, a memorable character due to his wit and the game’s humour. With games stylised on an Ed Wood B-movie theme, to date we’ve seen Crypto ‘invade’ Earth during eras such as the ‘50s and ‘60s all with hilarious consequences.

Aliens can have many looks, but developers’ Pandemic Studio’s based Crypto on the popular ‘grey’ look, giving him minimal physical strength and a big fat zero on the sex appeal front, but supposedly – with a brain that size – he’s got above human intelligence to make up for all that.

But even though he’s cited as highly intelligent, Crypto’s love of destruction does seem to get him noticed in the gameplay department as he harvests humans brain stems in a race to save Furons from extinction and beat the enemy group Majestic. Having killed thousands of passers-by, along with mayors and even presidents, he’s definitely a ‘man’ on a mission.

With Pandemic creating such a humorous environment bursting with pop culture references I found the series to be highly playable and enjoyable to return to, and although Crypto’s quite a ‘young’ character in the scheme of things, I find him to be highly memorable. Seriously, how can you not chuckle playing with a character than gives you the opportunity to use weapons such as Zap-O-Matics, Anal Probes, Disintegrator Rays and Abducto Beams?!
