More from yesterday’s E3 presentation from SCEE. Read on for the press release.
E3, Los Angeles – July 16 2008: The people have spoken: now, the most critically acclaimed and best-selling titles on PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™) are due for release as part of the PS3™ Platinum range from Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE). Offering gamers the greatest titles at unbeatable value, some of the best PS3 games will hit stores shelves on August 1st with a RRP of €29.99 – meaning there’s no excuse not to include them in your collection.
Whether you’re an intergalactic adventurer, a high-speed off-road racing nut, or simply enjoy thrashing your friends in competitive tennis, the PS3 Platinum range offers something for fans of every genre.
“If you’re a longstanding PS3 owner with gaps in your collection – or perhaps you’ve just joined the family – the PS3 Platinum range is your chance to pick up some of the very best games at a wallet-friendly price,” said David Reeves, President and CEO, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. “With great titles spanning a huge breadth of gaming experiences, this August is a great time to be a PS3 owner.”
To qualify for Platinum status, a game must achieve more than 400,000 units across the PAL territories. Confirmed titles in the Platinum range include: Heavenly Sword (SCEE), MotorStorm™ (SCEE), Ratchet and Clank™: Tools of Destruction (SCEE), Uncharted: Drakes Fortune (SCEE), Virtua Tennis (Sega), Assassin’s Creed (Ubisoft) and WWW Smackdown Vs Raw 08* (THQ).
The PS3 Platinum range offers the best in next-gen gaming at unbeatable prices – with each of these titles available with a RRP of €29.99. If these PS3 classics passed you by the first time around, this August is the time to make sure your games library is up to date.
* WWW Smackdown Vs Raw 08 not available on August 1st – release date to be confirmed.
29.99 EUR = 23.76-ish GBP

So SCEE make an announcement saying they are selling old games more expensive than they are available for already?
Way to go guys.
Also considering they are being priced at $30 in the US (£17ish after tax) SCEE are taking the piss a bit. Are we subsidizing SCEA on software as well as hardware?

Guys remember that platinum titles will be selling for below retail price at some retailers anyway. Talking of SCEE announcements. I hear that the video store is not coming to Europe this year. Does anyone know if content on the US video store will be region locked or not?
Comment by reakt — Jul 17, 2008 @ 2:35 pm
@9 [reakt]:
Yes, the US video store is region locked, as is Home (meaning you cannot meet anyone outside of your local region in a public area, but you can invite them to your private meeting place).

Oh look… my comments from yesterday have suddenly appeared (read: passed Three Speech moderation).
I posted the shorter, second comment thinking the reason my first was rejected was down to the inclusion of the word “private” or somesuch nonsense.
