The guys over at PSU have been chatting with Kevin McCann of Tiki Games, concerning a large update to NovaStrike to make it more accessible to all audiences (casual through to hardcore) as well as the long awaited trophy support. Here’s what he had to say on the update:
“I’m really hoping the update helps a lot of existing owners that are frustrated with the difficulty to enjoy the game. I’ve spent a *lot* of time on tuning the difficulty (particularly on RECRUIT and SOLDIER), and brought more folks through to play it, so this should be closer to the mark in being accessible from very casual to hardcore gamers (and believe me - I’m still including a challenging mode for those that want it).”
Concerning the trophies, there are 16 trophies in total - 12 bronze, and 4 silver; keep an eye out for the full trophy list appearing soon. Here’s the complete feature list from the update, courtesy of PSU.com.
-
Difficulty - Tuned to be easier in existing modes while adding a HARDCORE mode for those that really want a challenge
Fully Customizable Controls - A secondary control layout that has an alternate control mapping scheme will be included, but you’ll also be able to customize the controls to your liking — you can map weapon selection to face buttons and/or the digital pad, put the afterburner on a trigger, etc.
Trophies - 16 total Trophies, 12 broze and four silver, will be added
Player ship - The Scythe will be larger in size
Fine Aim mode - Those having trouble lining up the Shredder and/or Trembler bomb will be able to hold a button down to slow down the Scythe’s turning which this makes lining up on ground targets a lot easier
Megapacks and repair packs - Will now replenish the capacitor bar for the afterburner
Slight performance increase - Overall game optimized slightly
Looking good!
Great, looking forward to this then.

Yes, I must agree I am having great difficulty enjoying this game… because you haven’t released it here yet!
Any idea as to when it’s coming out?
Comment by MK — Aug 15, 2008 @ 1:35 am
Nice, but as mentioned, this game hasn’t even been released here in Europe, so this news is totally unrelevant for us, so why post it?

TS needed to run any story they could to move the PSN update down the page.
Pity they’ve only highlighted further how crap SCEE are. If for any wild reason I need PR I won’t come to you guys.
Comment by Shrui — Aug 15, 2008 @ 8:47 am
Don’t shoot the messenger, Shrui.
If SCEE do vet what gets posted at ThreeSpeech.com, you would think that somebody there would have noticed that the European doesn’t have “NovaStrike” available (…yet).

“the European” being the singular party who now owns a PS3 in that region, obviously
Comment by fanpages — Aug 15, 2008 @ 8:54 am
that poor european dude
*shakes head*
bury the psn update quick, quick, quick
Comment by marvzilla — Aug 15, 2008 @ 9:39 am
I do have some sympathy for the guys who run Threespeech. They are a PR company with a client who seems determined to piss off their customers in every way possible and offer absolutely no explanation whatsoever.
I’ve said it before, coming into the office each morning must be just one big headache for the TS guys, seeing moaning post after post from us lot and little gratitude in return. On the other side they have the great slab of stone that is SCEE.
So I wouldn’t want their job. On the other hand they are being paid by SCEE to do all this so hell mend them!
Comment by Shrui — Aug 15, 2008 @ 10:02 am
Best thread ever!!!
Comment by manley — Aug 15, 2008 @ 11:12 am
No guys ,you didnt get it.
NOVASTRIKE will release on Europe WITH the patch.
And on the US Store will be released only the patch.
You guys surely read anything that help you to whine.
Comment by Fersis — Aug 15, 2008 @ 12:06 pm
@Fersis
I think your failing to see where the bad feeling is directed.
No one has suggested that Novastrike wouldn’t release here without the new content (presuming it ever does release here). What we’re pissed off about is being told about an update to a game that is not released here yet.
Considering the treatment that European customers already receives its a bit insensitive.
Comment by Shrui — Aug 15, 2008 @ 12:22 pm
@fersis
Sorry the article that threespeech has linked to and what theespeech has written makes *NO* mention of Europe…
So if you could provide a link to back up your statement, that would give it some credibility
Comment by Mr. Monkey — Aug 15, 2008 @ 12:26 pm
Youre right guys ,sorry.
I cant link to my source
Comment by Fersis — Aug 15, 2008 @ 7:50 pm
Well just bought the game off the american store, and the things they want to change is really needed, the ship is very tiny and even if you play the the easiest level, it is still very hard to progress, even though playing a few hours I still haven’t been able to progress anu further than level 1. Now I am wondering if the game is capable of updating when it is on a european machine and the game isn’t released here.

Comment by WhiteWolf_DK — Aug 16, 2008 @ 7:08 pm
Actually Fersis might be right, while reading on PSU I found a single line at the bottom of this article saying the game will be out here later:

@Whitewolf
Article does say that, With only two weeks left of Summer they are running short. Will also only be 2-3 months late which ain’t bad for SCEE.
Doesn’t remove the sting for EU users who haven’t been able to buy it yet to be reading about updates to it.
Comment by Shrui — Aug 18, 2008 @ 7:19 am
@ Shrui - You’re right about that, on the american blog TIKI games has told they will try to get the game out in Europe as fast as possible.
As mentioned I managed to get the american store to accept my creditcard, but it stinks that we need to bypass SONYs own rules in order for this, there shouldn’t be such big problems with localizing, there are 5 main languages, have the games use those and the rest should be fine.

PAL Novastrike submitted to SCEE News News by Tom Bramwell
Today 10:12
Tiki Games is working on getting Novastrike onto the European PlayStation Store as soon as possible, according to president and creative director Kevin McCann.
McCann was writing on the PlayStation Blog yesterday to announce the release of a patch adding Trophies, adjusted difficulty and controls and custom soundtrack support to the PSN shooter in the US.
“We’re working with going through the submission process with SCEE presently,” McCann wrote in a comment on the resulting thread. “I’m sorry I can’t be more specific (as I don’t have a date), but it [is] our main goal right now.”
We’ve asked Sony if anyone there can clarify.
Novastrike is a top-down shooter in which you have to shoot everything in sight with a variety of weapons. You can see what it looks like in screenshots and trailers on the Novastrike gamepage.
