The new incarnation of the PSP is flying off the shelves in Japan, 140,000 units in four days. Let’s see if it shifts the same numbers in the UK. More on that story at CVG.

Too bad there is a hardware defect in every single one of them that will make watching video and playing games very hard http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/21/scei-psp-brites-scanlines-caused-by-hardware-no-plans-to-fix/

i only got my PSP 2000 this time last year,
not upgrading it just for a brighter screen.
*goes to lurk back in gloom and play SR2*

Ehh. It still takes 28 weeks to sell that many PS3’s in Japan
Comment by cant_read_it — Oct 22, 2008 @ 7:03 am
I’ve still got my PSP phat. I might have to actually dust it off and use it again, now that firmware 5.0 has been cracked and customised. Time for some online-store-access awesomeness.
Comment by reakt — Oct 22, 2008 @ 9:09 am
hmmm, on second thoughts i think il wait.
cheers carl.
Comment by manley — Oct 22, 2008 @ 10:52 am
Tutt. That’s a shame. I would’ve been interested if it weren’t for those scanlines. However, people will still probably lap them up for Christmas leading to a drop in price of the 2000, at which I will strike like a Cobra and buy buy buy!!!

*at which POINT I will….
My S.P.A.G. is abysmal…

@Aragorn1001
its probably the shock of winning the wipeout comp thats messing you up. I still cant believe it.
did threespecch get in touch with about when it will arrive?
Comment by manley — Oct 22, 2008 @ 12:27 pm
Yea I got my PSP on day one, still does the job so I dont relly need a new one. Maybe if this one “accidntly” fell down the stairs? Then I’d consider it ^^
Comment by E-ROLE — Oct 22, 2008 @ 3:02 pm
@ manley
It arrived yesterday by Special Delivery, but I was out so the Royal Mail have it in their evil clutches right now!
Comment by Aragorn1001 — Oct 22, 2008 @ 3:17 pm
According to Famitsu PS3 sold 4800 units last week, dead last again. Absolutely pathetic. Don’t know what SCEJ are doing but they need a good kick up the bum.

@Aragorn1001
lol you’ll never get that back now. if only i work at the post office i would never need to buy a game again.
if it has the offending song it might be worth a bit of money in the future so keep hold of that!

Saw the interlacing issue on Kotaku this morning,
Sony have said that is normal due to the extra brightness no plans to fix it…
So have just ordered a Psp 2000 arrives on Friday, will just have to buy a anti-glare screen protector…
Comment by Mr. Monkey — Oct 22, 2008 @ 6:19 pm
Let see how this new model help to sell more the console.
Comment by GT — Oct 22, 2008 @ 8:06 pm
Does anyone here have a 3000, and is the scanline or interlacing really all that obvious? I want a PSP, and have money burning a hole in my pocket, but well, you know, if it’s poo then I’ll maybe wait.
Also, this isn’t really the place, but I’m thinking of popping a 320gb western digital HDD (WD3200BEKT) into the PS3, and was wondering if anybody had any input! Is it noisy, does it cause any audio skipping problems (some HDD’s have I hear), does it cause the PS3 to heat and inturn increase cooling fan noise? Most interested!

@ manley
I have it and I’ve played it!
My advice to you is to set aside plenty of time for a long gaming session the first time you play the game.
There are tutorials for just about everything, voiced by Mr. Stephen Fry. You can turn them off, of course; but I found each one quite valuable. Especially as I had no manual.
The campaign is great fun but when you’re playing in two player mode, as I did with my wife, it can get frustrating. If you’re familiar with Gauntlet - it’s similar to that in the respect that you both need to co-operate and go in the same direction. This was a concept lost on my wife, who caused my death several times due to wandering off and leaving me unable to see where I was going. Invariably, I was ‘going’ into a pit of spikes.
After a short time playing the campaign, the game will gradually give you licence to use more and more tools, and eventually create your own level.

Come on Threespeech!
Give a balanced and truthful report on Japanese sales please. I take it you know the horrible Japanese figures for PS3 v 360?
The PS3 has just been outsold again by the 360 in Japan.
I fear the PS3 is going the way of the dodo.
Can Threespeech shed any light on any strategies or plans or is it head firmly in sand time?

@Aragorn1001
i had the beta, and yes I did have allot of time allocated for this by way of booking a week off work for a 24th October release.
the beta I had only contained 4 of the story levels and I limited amount of tools, but from what ive seen its quite easy to waste a week or so making levels.
@ton capone
nice to see ya back and yes you have a valid point some light on the what seems to be a dreadful situation would be very nice.
