The WipEout competition has thrown up a lot of PSN IDs. Some of them creative, some of them funny and some of them very, very weird… But what’s the story behind them? Why do you call yourself that? Is it a play on your name? Is it a private joke? Three Speech wants to know!
Tell us how you came up with your PSN ID. Let us know which other players’ names you particularly like as well…
You should see my MSN email address

Mine came from a random word generator.
Wanted to change my online ID sometime ago as I realised my previous one was more common than I thought.
Wanted something unique so downloaded some shareware prog that throws random collections of letters at you and found Shruiy which I liked.
Took the Y off for a character in Eve Online (I think by mistake) and have preferred it as just Shrui since. Easy to make variations of for Warcraft chars as well! (Shruil, Shruih, Shruis, Shruix etc etc.)
Some games still have a Shruiy running around in though and so far I’ve never come across someone with the same name (or using the same login).

Mine PSN Robothamster is an anagram of my name, Robert Thomas.

My psn (Demadred) is simply a name my sister told me by mistake, she said later its really Demandred (From some kind of book) but i liked Demadred…. i also go under Morbo, Nibler (both from futurama) or Aranel/Arenal (Elvish name generator)… and sometimes i go wild and use Wilibald (hobbit name generator)
Comment by Karl — Oct 16, 2008 @ 2:42 pm
I’ve used the name Severn, online since the early days of Quake II, the name is a character in the movie, Near Dark. The 2J extension came along when I was registering on a site, only to find the name had already been taken, so I added 2J after the wrestler, Chris Jericho who had the moniker, Y2J (Yeah, I was into wrestling at the time, Im ashamed to admit), and I’ve stayed with severn2j ever since.. Must be 7-8 years now. Jeez, I feel old..
Comment by Severn2j — Oct 16, 2008 @ 2:54 pm
‘C’ is my intial, and ‘ronnie’ is a nickname I have had since school, bung the two together and what do you know
Comment by Cronnie — Oct 16, 2008 @ 3:13 pm
God, am I the only one here who simply took my initials to create the PSN id? Although I don’t know how anyone would call “pvwr” online :). Guess I have just found a good excuse to buy a bluetooth headset :D.

Nicked mine from a graffiti artist who used to write reakt murals near where I live. PSN IDs I like: OddSock; 50sTeaTowelHolder.

Mine stems back to having no imagination when I was younger and first needed to use an online ID in a PC game (back in the days of pay as you go dial up internet!), I just chose to put my first name in backwards - Simon = Nomis.
A little after that I decided to get myself a Hotmail account to use MSN Messenger, however Nomis was taken, as were many other variants I tried. So in the end I decided to use my middle initial and surname initial in the name as well - so Simon P. A. became Apnomis.
I’ve used it for most things, including my PSN ID, ever since. It’s a pretty unique ID, but I have seen it pop up once or twice belonging to someone else…
P.S. @ Robothamster - that’s a great anagram!!! I wish I would have thought to use an anagram all those years ago there are some great ones for me (I used http://wordsmith.org/anagram/)
Comment by Apnomis — Oct 16, 2008 @ 4:03 pm
My PSN name is Cleric20 - and it’s the heroes name from the novel I’m currently writing entitled ‘Darkmatters’. Think dark-matter, robots, satan and genetically created ultimate sex playmates!
Anyone for Wipeout HD?
Comment by Cleric20 — Oct 16, 2008 @ 4:23 pm
ShuyinXSeraph
Shuyin was a FFX-2 character (yes, I sat through it — no, I haven’t been able to make a second playthrough :D)
Seraph is a character from the Matrix (the Asian martial artist).
So it was my senior year of high school when the second and third Matrix movies and Final Fantasy X-2 came out; I thought it was a neat combination.
X? Well, that was the cool thing to do to screen names back at the time, at least among my circle of friends at that point.
Comment by ShuyinXSeraph — Oct 16, 2008 @ 4:36 pm
@Apnomis - Thanks for the link to the anagram thingy. I ran it on my [real] name and it came up with “Dry Weird Nacho”. I think I’ll keep that to myself!

jollygoodshow… I don’t know really why I picked this. It’s something I say just to be funny. It kinda makes me think of british spitfire pilots and Warhawk was the first game I bought so it kinda fits. Roger! over and out!!
Comment by Jollygoodshow — Oct 17, 2008 @ 3:14 am
I wanted something that would be easy to remember - no mixing capitals and underscores with random numbers. Luckily, I snagged “Englishman” as my second attempted name when they opened PSN registrations on the web, ages before the PS3 came out in Europe.
First attempt was Wolverine, but this was obviously taken within seconds of the registrations going live!
Playing Warhawk gets a few team-killers onto me if I’m on a French server or there’s some other Western-phobe types on there, generally flying Warhawks instead of their usual carpets.
Comment by Englishman — Oct 17, 2008 @ 9:06 am
Diver68….
All my first choiceses were taken so I had to think of something that would be free on a LOT of other loggins - blogs, clans, forums etc….
So considering that I do SCUBA diving and apparently - although I don’t personally remember - I was born in 1968!
Therefore:
Diving + 68 = Diver68
Yup - I’m an old git now…. Old git and still gaming

Mine was my DJ name first and now my Username on every forum I’m a member of as well as my PSN, YouTube ID etc. The only variation is whether or not I’m allowed a space or not. PSN - no, most forums - yes.
It comes from me having ginger hair, although it’s pretty much brown now. When I was younger I had it bleached blonde and the roots came through ginger. I was looking to change my DJ name and it came to me: Root Ginger.

My first online handle was baldandblind. I wanted something unique cos I don’t like using numbers, and what with being short sighted and at the time I shaved my head.
I then changed it to FurryFreak when it didn’t seem appropriate cos I had long hair and was getting more hair generally everywhere. I also like the sound of it.

@xMonkeyWrenchx - I can guess which track you enjoy rocking out to on Guitar Hero!

My nickname came from the first time I saw Angelina Jolie in the movie Hackers. One of the guys in that movie used the name Fantom Phreak. I really liked that, but it was taken in a lot of places.
I love guitar, so adopted phreakytuneage for a while, but now phreaky to have become available on most of the sites i frequent now so I have reverted back.
Plus I’m a bit odd…

So my name was thought up by a friend who believes that people who play online like to have hardcore names like killer69 or Iwillownyou etc etc but are no good at the games they play. They use the name to make you think they are superb, bunch of lamers.
My name was to lead people into a false sense of security, after which they soon get there arse kicked…. boy is it embarrassing for them when they get beaten by someone with a silly name, LOL

Mine evolved from the name SillyScout that I used to use in the old Team Fortress Classic days when I played soley as the fast and frantic Scout. Didn’t work well with other games though, so SillySprout was the closest thing that sounds cool.
Officially the only PlayStation Network user named after an outrageous vegetable!
