Regular reader and contributor Jon Porter joins us to talk about the most popular piece of new DLC in last week’s update…
It speaks volumes that every week since LittleBigPlanet’s release there’s been some free downloadable content for us to get our hands on, giving Sackboy the appearance of the likes of plants, televisions and now oddly enough, Santa.
Except of course it’s not odd, because there’s only a couple of weeks to go until Christmas and everywhere up and down the country is ramping up accordingly with decorations, sales and of course the obligatory cheesy-yet-undeniably-excellent Xmas tunes. Seeing Sackboy running, jumping, and just generally being a cute little Sackperson is a lovely sight especially when in preparation for some Santa madness of your own (www.santacon.co.uk).
Media Molecule has done a great job with releasing free content every week. Not only does it add a small amount of value to the LBP product, but it also makes sure no one’s going to forget about the game any time soon. Every week I find myself grabbing the latest costumes and immediately popping into the game to play with them. If MM can consistently keep getting content out there to fill the front of the PlayStation Store people will continue to play the game in their droves, which can only be a good thing.
Some people have claimed that Sackboy has become the poster-child of the PlayStation, but with this content however it may not be a stretch to start seeing Sackboy as the teddy bear of this generation. Aesthetically minded gamers can spend hours kitting out their Sackboy to look exactly how they want him to, eager for their little friend to stand out from the crowd when they take him online for some action.
Free content is always a nice addition to any game, but the fact that it’s emerged in such quantities has really shown Media Molecule’s commitment to the community, a thank-you for supporting such a great game. Here’s to hoping the future will bring much more content for our favourite Sackperson.
I’ve not played LBP yet to be honest, but the fact its getting free updates can only be a good thing, its a lot more than can be said for Home where you have to pay for pretty much everything. 79p for a pair of virtual trowsers or 3.99 for a virtual house. I think the expression is trying to sell snow to eskimos. I went o ntheir briefly and within 2 minutes I saw some female avatar being hounded by people asking to “f***” her, Then after hanging around the mall for about 5 minutes not buying anythign like I did when I was about 10 I got bored and left it.

Just woke up…and it’s 2pm…God bless not working…
Regarding sackboy santa - I want bushy beard and hat!

The free costumes are appreciated. The pay-for ones are too expensive. Take the street fighter pack (that was released along with your Santa hat and boots). £4.79? PixelJunk Monsters costs less than that! Is LBP the Little Big Profiteer?

Nice, I’m loving the LBP DLC, and I totally agree with what Jon has said.
It’s a shame some people are so argumentative about having to pay for some of the DLC, be it quality stuff or not. After all someone has taken the time to make it, so therefor why not get paid for it?
I’m totally happy to pay for premium content, but it’s great that Media Molecule and Sony are working together to give us some free weekly content.

Paying for premier content isn’t the issue - it’s how much they charge is. Somewhere along the line MICRO transactions have become MAXRO transactions - and that sucks.

@E-Role - Regarding premium content - Yes, developers should be paid for their work - absolutely. I was more than happy to pay 40quid for the full game as the developers had spent many months creating it. This was money well spent. Is it worth paying £4.79 for a few Street Fighter outfits that I’ll tire of after a few sessions - not in my opinion. That’s not stopping you from buying them and I don’t see this as argumentative - I’m just expressing my opinion.

MM level packs would be worth paying for - no-one does levels as good as they do !

and yet again, the free stuff is the most popular.
no sh-t!
premium LBP costumes are way too much money though.
are we allowed to upload christmas themed levels
or will they be pulled because they ‘may’ offend people
of different faiths?

@ ‘Tone - I reckon you’ll be alright uploading a Christmas themed level. Let us know when it’s there - I’d like to try it!

@ mobiletone
Don’t worry I’m sure offending Christianity is perfectly acceptable, its only violent minorities SONY have to cater for.
