Just to drag out the tension of those final few hours before y’all get your hands on Home, here are some new images of the good stuff to come. Incidentally, if any of you have got any decent/awful home-based puns for future headlines, please stick them in the thread. We will use (and of course credit) the best ones…

Is it true that SONY are in talks with UK Government and the banks WE bailed out to introduce Virtual Mortgages into HOME?
:o)

not quite a home pun, but definitely home related, and probably part of the whole marketing campaign behind the sponsorship:
“Red Bull Gives You Wings”
twist it around so that is “Home Gives You Wings” for a review or playtime with the Red Bull Air Race game within Home.
also, these ones actually home related:
-The Playstation (or a game title where this game has a new Home area) finally comes/hits Home,
-Home Sweet Home (duh!)
-Sony hits a Home Run
-Home is where the heart is. (for the inevitable first marriage that comes from meeting someone on Home)
-Honey! Im Home! (as above)
Im sure I could sit here for half hour spewing out more, but Im gonna leave it at those 6.

I’m pleasantly surprised that the Red Bull Air Race literally means your avatars (is that what the Home characters are officially called?) can get in a plane and fly around the Home environment. When I first heard the news about the Red Bull Air Race I imagined some kind of arcade mini-game similar to the arcade games in the bowling alley. I’m also surprised that the Motorstorm space looks like it’s inside Monument Valley (as opposed to a room that’s got Motorstorm decoration).
It makes me feel quite hopeful at the possibilities available for these Home spaces, if your avatar isn’t constrained by the same rules as the main home space, it means it won’t be a case of having the same old area but with a different coat of paint.
I wonder what else devs could do with Home Spaces in the future, I’m guessing the code is pretty flexible and the avatar models are bound to be adaptable - visit Croft Manor and try Lara’s assault course or pracitice your aiming at the Call of Duty Firing Range or try your golf swing at the EA Tiger Woods Driving Range or even drive a car manufacturers latest model at their sponsored test track and car showroom!
Still as novel as Home is for these type of distractions it’s success will depend how many games allow you to organise and launch multiplayer games from it…

lets not forget the 4Gb of Harddrive space it gobbles up (reserves) before you download anything!
Comment by mobiletone — Dec 10, 2008 @ 6:05 pm
@mobiletone hard drive space is so cheap these days, it’s hardly worth mentioning that…
Is it confirmed that the red bull space and other spaces are going live with the open beta tomorrow?
Comment by Rob — Dec 10, 2008 @ 6:13 pm
@ Rob - for people like us maybe, i have 250Gb jammed in the slot, but for your average joe with 20/40/60 machines who daren’t upgrade the console this could be a bit of a hit. i filled my 60GB within the first year of ownership, that’s why i upgraded. but most people won’t do that, so will have to delete installed games/vdeos/music etc just to make the space.
Comment by mobiletone — Dec 10, 2008 @ 6:32 pm
@Tone
Filling your drive with videos of me again are you *blushes*?
@Article
Home - trying hiding your wife under the house NOW!
Comment by JohnSketch — Dec 10, 2008 @ 8:32 pm
@mobiletone its quite hard to fill up the hard drive. I only 40 of my original 60gb due to my lazyness of deleting game / movie videos.

Read… Bull & Doring?
It seems not. With all this content going into the release I’m not surprised PlayStation(r)Home has taken so long to be publically available. The internal Test cycles must have been at least a year in duration since the final build.
I’ll reserve my judgement on the success of the venture, but congratulations to Sony for having the foresight & courage to try this.

F**K You guys, I’m going Home!
Comment by Hartlepudlian — Dec 11, 2008 @ 9:20 am
I’m liking the Home beta’s (EU and US versions), and can’t wait to see the new areas. My issue with Home as it stands at the moment is the loading delays between areas. If I had my way, the areas would just flow from one to the other, unless it was still being downloaded. Also, I would expect Home to automatically check for updates of any previously visited areas, and background download the updates for those areas when I start Home, rather than waiting until I decide to go to the cinema and then making me wait.
Comment by LordOfRuin — Dec 11, 2008 @ 9:27 am
@ LordOfRuin, you’re right the loading times do seem a bit sluggish, especially for a “game” that runs off the harddrive. I understand the logic in having areas download in chunks, but one you have them it would have been nice if Home was a bit cleverer and a bit more seamless at loading/preloading them.

Home is soo good that even MS and Nintendo will have to pay HOMEage!
We are finally on the HOME strait.
Home has hit the mark soo well with the community it was almost like a HOMEing missile
Home is open to all and no one will be left homeless as you all get your own pads.

i cant watch the video of the Red Bull thing as im in work, is it a space you go into to fly it? or is it something you can launch from your menu?
Comment by paul — Dec 11, 2008 @ 1:37 pm
@Paul, I think it’s in a place called Red Bull Island, expect you have to go there via the world map and then you can take the planes for a fly (if you don’t have to queue for them like bowling!)

CAUTION: Home Hacked, Files/Servers not secure!!! Use at own risk!!!

…Only took hours but it’s happened, home has been hacked and with the right tools anyone can do almost anything they want add, remove or change files, access Dev and QA files, insert their own code, download anything they want and so on.
Until this has been sorted by sony i’d recommend staying off home to all beta testers as some have already lost beta aquired items for no reason. i’d recommend it for everyone actually because you have no idea if the files and spaces being downloaded are genuine or not and they may damage your PS3, not saying they are effected i’m just saying we dont know what’s happening. this could also explain all the problems we’ve been having since home went live.
PSN details are safe, there has been no mention about these details being accessed so no worries there your accounts and credit card details are not at risk.
Not trying to scare everyone but i do think we should all be very cautious until home is patched, as the servers and backend have been blown wide open to attack by anyone with the right tools for the job and although most of the hackers are curious there’s always one prat who wants to cause trouble.

You can bet people were dragged out of bed back to the office to get this little mess cleared up ASAP so shouldn’t be too long before we hear something official, i’m sure there’s someone writing the official press release while i type this post at stupid o’clock in the morning…

Here’s a small anecdote:
December 11th, 2008 was the day the PS3 community will probably refer to as “homecoming” for a while. Like many other gamers, I was homebound on that special day, waiting to see what sony would pull out of their sleeve. I downloaded 70 mega- (and reserved another lovemaking 3 giga-) bytes of space on my fantastic playstation’s hard disk. I waited, in patience that can only be described as stoical, but there was too much traffic on the servers.
Finally I called my wife and told her i wasn’t able to get home on time, upon which she said I was a workaholic. She didn’t know I was next-door at the time.
And yes : Probably we should invoke a social care programme called “home for the homeless”, which includes a playstation 3, an LCD TV and a shitload of wifi-hotspots for all those who live on the street.
Honestly, I tried home the day before yesterday. not my kind of app, honestly. hardly have time to spare on great games, why waste the little rest of it on leading a secondary life that offers no benefits for my primary one? On the other hand, last night I spent half an hour watching niko bellic watch nbc. that was weird in an interesting way. has anybody seen “the history of liberty city, part I”? Rockstar folks are just the best…
