Information and advice über-site About.com has announced its ten favourite PS3 games of 2008. It’s a good list, with some great titles on it:
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots – Game of the Year
Little Big Planet – Most Innovative Game of the Year
Resistance 2 – Shooter of the Year
Grand Theft Auto IV - Action Game of the Year
Burnout Paradise – Racing Game of the Year
Rock Band 2 – Music Game of the Year
Army of Two – Co-op Game of the Year
Buzz! Quiz TV - Party Game of the Year
Fallout 3 - Role Playing Game of the Year
Soulcalibur IV - Fighting Game of the Year
What do you guys think? Have they got it spot on? Are there any glaring omissions? Also, let us know if you think there are any new categories that should be included in these yearly round-ups…
I think LBP should have also got Co-op of the year not Army of Two. But yea, pretty spot on.

Hahah, what’s Army of Two doing in there - that was dreadful. Warhawk should have been in the top 10 instead of GTA IV (which was good but not top-10-worthy).

Racing game of the year should have been Motorstorm Pacific Rift.

Personally I don’t really mind having the whole “Game of the Year” shindig, it’s useful for marketing purposes and putting pretty “thumbs up” stickers on title covers for the Joe Bloggs gamer so they know “yeah sure this game MUST!!! be good”.
But when every single god damned site, blog, magazine, enterprise, company, man and his dog are doing it…
Well I lose all interest and revert to the time old tradition of “Meh”.

@manley - erm, yes come to think of it you’re right! Sorry. Well I can certainly think of better games than GTA IV - as Dave said, Motorstorm 2 is great.

i think it should be ferrari challenge for the racing game of the year, its the most realistic racing game ive played, and they are making a sequel named “supercar challenge” exclusive to ps3 and its going to be even better as its going to have a bigger variety of cars, nto that ferraris arent good enough.

Interesting to see that “Gran Turismo 5 Pro-longed” didn’t make the list.
My choices…
Game of the Year / Century / Millennium (so far):
“LittleBIGPlanet”
Most Innovative Game of the Year:
“Mirror’s Edge” or “PlayStation Home” (although this *may* come out of Beta next year, if ever)
Shooter of the Year:
“Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Vegas 2″
(”Far Cry 2″, or even “Dead Space” a close second… oh and there’s “Bioshock” that everybody else raved about)
Action Game of the Year:
“The Club”
Racing Game of the Year:
“Burnout Paradise”… although this will also be a contender this year too, so I’ll go for “Midnight Club: Los Angeles”
(I bought “Race Driver GRID” but never got to play it, so my opinion may change. I only opened the Rockstar title this weekend!)
(Oh yes, and “GTI Club+” is a strong condender too)

Co-op Game of the Year:
“PixelJunk Monsters” or “LEGO® Indiana Jones™: The Original Adventures”
Party Game of the Year:
“Burnout Paradise” (seriously)
It’s a bit like a game of Patience on a desert island.
No matter how deserted my house is, when I stick this game in, somebody will always come out of nowhere & want a go!
Role Playing Game of the Year:
“Fallout 3″ (bought it… haven’t opened it, mind)
Fighting Game of the Year:
“Robert Ludlum’s The Bourne Conspiracy”… OK… I have to agree… “Soul Calibur IV”
Anybody else can a re-ordered, or completely different list?
