Not only does the February issue of Official PlayStation Magazine come with the first UK exclusive six-page review of Killzone 2, it’s also got an extra special something - a free holographic wallet featuring a Helghast trooper.
It’s out today - go and get yours before it’s too late.

Looks grand! Think I’ll go out and get this along with the new Edge. The designs of the helgan are pretty damn impressive. They look great in game with all the lighting and sexy effects.

Nearly bought this yesterday but it’s sooooooooooo thin, it takes the biscuit! I like the mag but £6 for what feels like about 20 pages this month, and a BR disc which contains all the same demos I could get from the store? No thanks, I’ll read the scanned review I found earlier thanks very much!
All PS3 mags are the same though, all have useless DVD/BRs for free, I wish there was a mag available like the 360 has where there are no gifts and the mag costs a touch under £3.
Rant over.

It’s official: Hirai is completely mad!

I suppose his next comment is to re-iterate that the next generation doesn’t start until Sony says so?!

Have to agree with Robothamster about the disc.
Bought forests worth of the official PS2 mag for the demos, but now it just seems so pointless when everything is on the Store.
How about having a cheaper version without the disc?
It might stop subscribers like me from jumping ship.
Nice holo-cover mind, just a shame mine came in the post in the usual dull maroon plastic…

I’m a subscriber to this magazine.
Granted, I received my copy a week earlier than it hit the shelves, but I didn’t receive the Holographic outer cardboard cover. Subscribers just get the magazine in a plastic bag. Not quite the same effect.
Gee… thanks.

“and a BR disc which contains all the same demos I could get from the store? ”
“but now it just seems so pointless when everything is on the Store.”
As unimaginable as it might be in this day and age, there are still people without internet connections, or without broadband who rely on these for their demos.
While I’m not one of them, long may it continue.

Used to be a regular Edge & Games reader, haven’t bought a print mag for a dogs-age. All interwebs nows. Only bought an OPM for a Kratos sackboy. Always stayed well clear of buying single format mags, apart from the MIGHTY Official Dreamcast mag…
Used to flick through the single format mags & nab the demo discs tho, back in the day, when I worked @Eb/Game *Sigh* got memorys of some sweet swag…
I shall pass through my local WHSmiths and have a oggle @ the cover & a sly read of the review. Theres usually one cracked open.

I have a subscription to Edge, but I have to say, lately they have been going all Xbox fanboy like.
Comment by CartBlanche — Jan 21, 2009 @ 9:32 pm
I saw the so-called “Holographic” cover this evening… nothing special… I’m not missing anything, fortunately.
With regards “Edge” magazine, CartBlanche, every issue I have read has favoured the Microsoft or PC platforms to review a game title when it is a multi-format release.
I have not opened a copy for at least a year, but if the usually well-written articles are now showing bias against Sony as well, I don’t think I’ll bother with it any longer anyway.
I do like the “PlayStation Official Magazine - UK” but the content has got subsequently less & less over the last six months. By the time the “Top 10″ of the month list has taken up the first dozen pages, and the latter five or so have the “must have” titles for the PSP, PS2, & PS3, the “Download of the Month”, “Straight to bargain bin”, “What that”, “Rumour machine” & “Playlist”pages, there are only so many Blu-ray movie advertisements & family-tree of game title characters you can fit before the 110-ish pages are exhausted.
I’m all for regular features, but they are getting very tired & very, well, “samey” month-on-month. The magazine & cover-mounted disc at £5.99 is sounding very expensive now. I wonder what the US magazine costs?
After my current subscription has finished I will go back to buying individual issues when I see something to take my interest, rather than just parting with the cash for the sake of it.
I only took out the subscription to get the Sackboy toy (that arrived five weeks later) & the ‘gift’ of a “Men in Black” Blu-ray movie… and that didn’t arrive; I was sent “Rambo” instead.
After two months of trying to explain the problem to Future Publishing’s customer service team, & finally being told that I would have to send back both the Sackboy toy & the Blu-ray disc in order to get back the (same?) toy & the correct movie, I just didn’t bother responding.
There’s nothing like good customer service, etc.
I still do like hard copy magazines… especially when a need a little “me time” in the smallest room of the house (unless you are Chad Kroeger & his “Rockstar” lifestyle) but unless the publishers try to keep up & compete with digital information deliveries (or “overload”, if you prefer) then I’d sooner the paper was used more constructively as another product in the bathroom.
I guess I could always “Remote Play” to my PS3 with my (single) handheld PSP. Hmmm… there’s a thought…

For clarity… the “regular features” I mentioned, had no connection to any other activity I may have referred to above.
Just wanted to say that before everybody else went through the motions…

I was actually looking for some form of holographic wallet with the edition I have just picked up.
Didn’t realise they meant the cardboard sleeve the magazine was in, if I was a yank I could see for incorrect use of the word Wallet!
Comment by SlapnutzUK — Jan 23, 2009 @ 8:13 am
Wallet?
Don’t you mean purse? No, wait, that’s handbag?
I know it is not a fanny pack… that is where Brits keep their fags.
Oh arse. No wonder this localisation stuff takes so long…
(Localization… word!)
