Suppose you’d get sick of hearing it but I do feel its in the same league as CoD4 for the exact same reasons that made CoD4 so good.

It’s not a Halo beater though, is it?
Comment by Zed Zee — Feb 14, 2009 @ 10:30 pm
I have been playing the retail version for long and reviewed it myself and it’s not a HALO beater it’s a HALO pwmer/.

@Zed
Halo beater…no…certainly not…is it good? Absolutely.
Halo’s charm came from the fact you were able to partake in expansive environmental battles with tanks, “jeeps”, “quad bikes” and flying craft (analogy).
Feeling like you are crossing battlefields and having an “adventure” whilst doing it is the main charm halo captivated everyone - second to the storyline which was by no means bad! (Really enjoy the universe - loved the books).
Killzone on the otherhand is an intimate experience, with intimate environments that bring all the action and violence and make it into a more personal experience. What Guerilla created in sum was a game that got right in your face, doesnt give you room to run away and very much in that vain makes you feel very much involved in the world whether willing or not - you dont want to leave and you are very sad when it ends.
Halo created this feeling through its exapnsiveness…KILLZONE through intimateness. It is by no means a HALO killer…it is however a game I could consider to be on par with Halo in terms of enjoyment I got out of it - a good thing if nothing else.

What amazes me about KZ2 is all the attention to detail, maybe it is because I have not played Halo or Gears, but little things like, characters actually looking before they shoot! Meaning the head turns first, then the arms take aim. That adds so much to the experience, much like the flinching moves of enemies and Nathan in Uncharted, when bullets are flying all over the show. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve died because I’ve been sat there stunned by what the enemy or my squad have done. It is by no means perfect, but it is one of the best FPSes I’ve played since Half Life 2. I’m really enjoying it!
At the moment I’m stuck in that square, trying to take out a couple of bosses. So it is both rewarding and frustrating dieing to much, but then I’ve only got myself to blame for starting on the highest difficulty level available.
I’ll probably replay it on a lower setting, just so I have the time to take in more of the detail.

If ever I needed any proof that cancelling my pre-order last week was the right decision, it appears “SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation”, the online only “third person tactical shooter video game” that was originally due to be released in the UK last November (and was released in the US on Blu-ray & via the PlayStation Store on 14 October 2008 & in Japan on 30 October 2008) is still broken!
Hampered by online connectivity, lag, and system crashes since release, the development team at Slant Six Games have released incremental updates with version 1.30 being the most recent on 9 January 2009.
These issues, however, have led to a lukewarm reception to date, with Meta Critic & GameRankings reporting average ratings in the low 60s.
It would seem though that anybody with the game is being asked for one final push to resolve the issues before it is release in PAL regions in less than a month’s time…

State of the Game
Posted by SOCOM: Confrontation Online Team
This is a quick view into some of our plans for SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation, answers to some of your questions and confirmation of our commitment and continued support of the title.
First, thank you to everyone who is contributing to the Confrontation forums, we review the posts, collate the comments and use the information to make the game better.
Second, after the release of the 1.30 update the on-line player counts increased by 50% and the number of hours per player increased by 33%. SOCOM: Confrontation is the number one SCEA online title and we would like to thank everyone that plays. You are not taken for granted.
Upcoming Patches:
We have a number of patches planned to add functionality and fix issues raised by you (the community). The first of these patches, addresses a slowdown seen when managing large clans and a number of other functionality, stability and non-English language fixes. Also in the works are Clan Ladders, Tournaments and another community requested bundle of fixes.
So why the delay between patches? Why can’t we address concerns more quickly? Why not smaller, quicker updates? The answer to this has a lot to do with the lengthy and necessary testing and approval procedure required before any patch can be deployed. This means that we tend to bundle fixes together to avoid multiple patches in test at the same time. A patch is usually deployed within 3 days of its approval, avoiding weekends.
Latency/Lag:
We are looking into potential causes for the severe latency (lag) which some users are reporting. Most users do not seem to have this issue, but we realize that it is a big issue for some users and we are actively looking into it.
We have already performed a lot of testing for latency (lag) under various network conditions on our side. However, we need your help to track down these issues.
If you experience sporadic latency (lag), please provide the following information:
* PSN User Handle
* Channel Name where latency occurred
* Game Name where latency occurred
* Game details where the latency occurred (map name [large/small], number of players, respawn on/off)
* Date and time when latency occurred (including time zone)
* Your Internet User Provider
Please provide this information in the forum thread here.
[ http://forums.socom.com/socom/board/message?board.id=socomissues&thread.id=283 ]
If you are constantly having latency (lag) issues, please provide the following information:
* PSN User Handle
* PS3 Model
* Is your PS3 connected via wired or wireless?
* If you are connected via wireless
* Are you connected via 802.11b or 802.11g?
* What wireless channel are you connected on?
* How many wireless access points can your PS3 see when you scan for a wireless access point under the System Settings/Network Settings option on the XMB?
* Please list the make, model and firmware of the wireless access point you are connected to
* If you are connected via wired, are you using a wireless bridge? If so, please list the make model and firmware.
* If you are using a router to share you internet connection, please list the make, model and firmware of the router
* Please list the make, model and firmware of your DSL/Cable/FIOS modem
* What was the date for the last time you logged in and observed the issue?
Please provide this information in the forum thread here.

It does read like they have run out of ideas locally & are seeking to gain any exterior influences that may intercept network traffic between the end-user’s PS3 console & the game’s servers.
I’m surprised they have not asked for affected parties to list the makes & models of their handheld wireless devices (mobile telephone handsets, Personal Digital Assistants, even rival games consoles), wireless telephones/computer mice/keyboards, microwave oven, and television remote controls too.
Or, indeed, listened to the Beta test program[me] members & not released the game at all in the US (or anywhere else) until it actually worked!
“SOCOM: Confrontation” is released on Blu-ray (with a bundled Official Sony Bluetooth Wireless Headset) in the UK (currently) on 13 March 2009, the rest of Europe & PAL territories (such as Australasia) on 18 March 2009, and upon the PlayStation Store a day later. No pricing information has been released for the digital downloadable version, but the physical version can be pre-ordered at Amazon (UK) for GBP 28.99.
The “Solus” edition (with just the Blu-ray title only) is scheduled for release two weeks later (on 27 March 2009). Pre-order for GBP 16.99 at Amazon (UK), if you are interested.
Optional downloadable content is also due to be announced, and is likely to take the form of regional themed map packs (to complement the original [seven] North African locations).
In the next month Slant Six Games have to fix the existing network issues & ensure there is sufficient capacity to accommodate all of the European/PAL players.
However, 13 March 2009 is only two weeks after “Killzone 2″ is released, and the same day as “Resident Evil 5″ is available, so maybe the game servers will not see an influx of players immediately. Arguably, anybody who wanted to play this title has already imported it & is adding to the game server slowdown by accessing the network from remote regions.
Has anybody bought this game already & tried to play it? Is it as bad as the reports indicate?
Thanks for any Intel you can provide.
BFN,
fp.

@ Zed Zee, the truth is the only people that really care how it compares to Halo 3 are 360 fanboys. PS3 owners, unlike 360 owners, don’t gauge their entire console gaming experience on a single franchise.
From my, admittedly limited, experience with Halo 3 I can say that KillZone 2 has superior graphics and sound. However gameplay wise they have gone in a completely different direction. It would be more relevant to ask “Is this a COD4 beater?”…
P.S. The Official XBox Magazine UK seemed to think it was up there with Halo 3, they have a short hands-on preview of it on their blog!

Fanpages:
I think it was you that mentioned on a previous thread about being colour blind and struggling between the red/green vairations of names in multiplayer?
Well this was posted on Killzone.coms forums with reply from Developer:
… on to my question… I have learned that the names above players in MP games are either red or green depending on which side you are on and that there is no way to change it. This is a really bad design choice for those of us who are colourblind as reds and greens are very difficult to differentiate to colourblind people. Colourblindness, and in particular the red/ green variety, is very common and this will cause colourblind people to be at a severe disadvantage in mp matches and may even lead to many inadvertant team kills. please could gg do the right thing and patch so that players can change the colours that are applied to the player names for each team. Battlefield modern combat provided a colourblind setting which i thought was very progressive in it’s awareness of this disability. BTW, yellow/blue or white/blue would be good options to choose. Please gg do the right thing here and set an example for other developers to follow. I look forward to your response. Kind regards, PACE_UK –
Hi again,
I already responded to your PM on PSU, but wanted to again in public. I too am colourblind and use the fact that names do not appear on enemies unless you aim at them and by the fact that they look like HGH or ISA and don’t worry so much about their names. Play the game and let me know if you have any real problems, but the game does not you to not be colour blind.

@halo fanboys kilzone2 offers more adult mentality and war felling than halo series. now as for cod4 i think the answer to that those who play the demo like my self yes but that is my opinion as far as 360 handling killzones graphics some parts ,effects nooooooo short answer no cell no killzone2 and one last thing i own all consoles and pc with 9series to make short MS need to stop milking halo

Killzone 2, is in one word…awesome. I don’t know why people think it is worse than Halo 3, or even Cod4!
