Yup, time to clear some space in the living room, meditate, stretch (your fingers and thumbs mainly) and prepare the Survivor and Joe Esposito playlist. No-one is going to kick sand in your face anymore, because the daddy of all fighting games is back…
Street Fighter IV is available to buy from Friday, ensuring that your weekend will be spent in a flurry of hundred-hand slaps, sonic booms and hadoukens, not to mention getting acquainted with new characters Crimson Viper, Abel, El Fuerte, and Rufus.

• Classic Street Fighter characters recreated for a new generation of gamers, including the original cast of Street Fighter™ II

• New gameplay elements provide new challenges for both newcomers and the most seasoned Street Fighter pro.
• Online gameplay features, including instantaneous online challenges, versus mode, tournament mode, and world wide online gameplay.
Street Fighter EX+Turbo was probably the LAST streetfighter that I ever played and even marginally enjoyed.
The series foray into the 3D realm just never “did” it for me.
2D is where my heart lies!

Rumour also has it that the European PS Store will also be receiving the long awaited Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix this Thursday for £11.99/€14.99!
Mind you there must be a lot of people in Europe that will just wait for Street Fighter IV the day after rather than pony up for the retro version!
They’ve missed the boat on this release I think, but better late than never I suppose…

Yeah that one is a bit of a head scratcher, why release SSF2THDR (not a rumor its been confirmed on capcom unity) the day before Street fighter 4 is released. Anyone that made a preorder online will be get SF4 before the PSN updates anyway.

ShopTo{dot}net & Play{dot}com have already started shipping the commercial version. I’ve read (on HotUKDeals) that a number of people already have had deliveries from ShopTo.
HMV (online) have an Exclusive Sleeve variant for £27.99. Presumably this will be in-store on Friday price-hiked by another tenner on top.
Has anybody seen the Collector’s Edition [PS3] for less than £57.99 (ShopTo)?
GAME have it for £69.99! (Granted with 9% QuidCo off that & double reward points for a pre-order)
I’m still not convinced on this title. I certainly don’t want to be paying silly money for the Collector’s Edition if it isn’t going to sell & be half price by mid-March.
Although I like typical martial arts/fighting titles, the pre-7th generation console “Street Fighter” games have never appealed to me because there doesn’t appear (to me) to be any real depth to the strategy involved. I know most titles of this nature can be beaten by just mashing the joypad buttons, but I’ve never found anything to like about “Street Fighter” titles previously released.
I would like to “get with the program[me]” with this iteration of the series, as I’ve heard good things about it, but with so many other games available now, or in the near future, I’m finding it hard to justify buying it for the sake of it.
(I still have “FEAR 2: Project Origin” to open and, of course, “Killzone 2″ is out next Friday, and “Resident Evil 5″ two weeks after that. Too many good games about… again!!)

This reminds me of PAIN - another PSN title that was delayed for weeks and week until I eventually tired of waiting for it and didn’t purchase it when it came out. I think I’ll get SF IV instead.

got mine this morning Thanks pLay.com
very good, in fact amazing need to install to get the best out of the title though weighs in at 2 GB so not too bad for no loading screens
Comment by andy — Feb 19, 2009 @ 1:15 pm
@ andy, the install is optional? That makes a pleasant change…

Mine arrived from play.com this morning. Hope Killzone 2 arrives early as well!
Haven’t had a chance to play SF4. We shall see if it lives up the promise of that amazing black and white fight sequence last year.
By the way for all those still waiting for street fighter hd - it is a bit of let down in my opinion. By making the graphics HD you really notice that there aren’t that many frames of animation for characters. Also I didn’t like Super Street Fighter because of the rubbish over powered new characters apart from Cammy of course
Anyway how about a HD version of Street Fighter III Third Strike with its silky smooth animation? Threespeech please forward this brilliant business idea on to Capcom and Sony. If it is a success I will only expect a small commission
Comment by gobucks — Feb 19, 2009 @ 3:30 pm
@gobucks - SF2 is the one that has the most nostalgia surrounding it. That’s the one that many of us grew up with. That’s why they made an HD version of it. I’ve never even seen SF 3 third strike. I think the market is already flooded with street fighter titles for a while - i.e. 2 in one week will keep most of us content for this year anyway. So I don’t think they’ll make SF 3 HD any time soon.

IVE BEEN PLAYING IT SINCE TUESDAY AND THE GAME ROCKS.
ALSO HERE IN THE US THERE’S A COMPETITION THIS SATURDAY AT PARTICIPATING GAME STOPS THAT WILL HAVE A TORNAMENT TO WIN THE STREET FIGHTER 4 ARCADE MACHINE. THE PS3 VERSION IS AMAZIN. I HIGHLY RECOMEND IT. ITS VERY NASTALGIC TO THE ORIGINAL ARCADE AND THE STREET FIGHTER ANIMATED MOVIE. THIS IS A MUST OWN .

@reakt - I agree SF2 is what most people fondly remember. I put a lot of coins into the Street Fighter 2 Turbo cabinet. By the time Street Fighter 3 came out the world had moved on to Tekken and Virtua Fighter.
I reckon Street Fighter 3 is probably more popular in the emulation scene than when it was out in the arcades. Not that I am recommending that any one download Mame and look for a streetfighter 3 rom online because that would be wrong

SF4 NEEDS a difficulty nerf patch urgently.
that game is way too difficult. ;(
