On 8th April the V1.30 update for WipEout® HD will introduce a selection of new multiplayer features to the legendary anti-gravity racer …
Online Ranking…
With over 50 ranks to progress through there will be a new edge to online racing in WipEout® HD…
Your finishing position, speed class and the rank of your opponents will determine how many ranking points you are awarded as you strive to go from a Wipeout Trainee to a Wipeout Legend!
Podium Screen & Online Badges…
A new podium screen will now display the top three finishers after each online race or tournament.
Regardless of whether you finish in the Top Three or not, every player has the chance of being awarded an ‘online badge’ in recognition of how they performed in the race. There are 33 badges in total.
Other feature include:
Connect easily with your friends…
Game invites have now been introduced to WipEout® HD to make it easy for you to invite your friends to join your game or for them to invite you!
In addition you will also be informed of any friends with an active online game and have the ability to join that game instantly!
Watch races in progress…
If a race has started before you have had chance to join it, Spectator mode will allow you to watch that race. Within spectator mode you can choose from 4 camera angles and select which ship to watch.
After the race has been completed you will be taken back to the lobby with the other players so you can compete with them in the next race.
Additional Options…
Finally to provide more variety when setting up an online race we have added a few additional options…
- HUD Weapon Hints on/off.
- Opponents – Choose to create a Public, Friends only or Invite only game. - Barrel Rolls on/off…
- Pilot Assist Allowed on/off.
- Number of laps (max 20).
that’s great… i guess… too bad I stopped playing a long time ago.

@Rick
See that button above the left shift key….lol
I was actually pondering the other day whe we’d see a bit of an update for wipeout. Glad they are still working on it.
It is a top class game for the money, though some of the trophies are way beyond my ability.

I just got the do 50 zones with air-brake trophy.. odd, wipeout is the only game I really care about getting them all for, perhaps that is due to my love of all things fast and.. well.. wipeout.. the update is more than welcome, I hope to see some crazy new tracks though, remember the graphic design tracks released for Pulse? Those were awesome, imagine them in HD… *drool*.. .I’ll go now…

Very nice update in-deed.
One important thing missing, though!! When initiating local two-player split-screen game, player two should select an account where his or her points, unlocks, etc. should be saved — like the player select in LittleBigPlanet when a 2nd controller is turned on.
I think this should be an option in every two-player game. Maybe SCE needs to improve its API for more developers to make use of it?

Oh god. Back to Wipeout again then. I love that game. Well, actually, I love the zones part. Still can’t quite reach Mach1 though. So anyway, it’s good to see some updates, perhaps we’ll be seeing some DLC soon? I wouldn’t mind all the tracks from 2097, cos they were rather good. I’d also enjoy some long distance and wide tracks for a more “pod racer” feel.
I can’t wait to challenge a couple of chums to one on one races, without having to go split screen.

New tracks is what we need… also any news yet o nthe full next installment? This is the one franchise that Sony has managed to keep hold of they need to see it justice.

Great! Haven’t played for ages. Being able to disallow pilot-assist will definitely even things out for some of the more difficult tracks. Will definitely have to start playing this again (lots of trophies left to nab!).
