   I wouldn’t say PS3 is a BIG failure yet but it is composed of many many many small failures that probably only an insane price drop and gaming quality pickup could fix - neither of which they can afford.

   I’m not nervous, but CURIOUS how they could f’up this bad. It’s like they were TRYING to fail. But ya I guess we’ll see…I’ve got a question Fred - why do you defend a system that’s totally insulted the average consumer (majority). Somebody missed a few to many Supply and Demand 101 classes back in college but then again I never credited buisness majors with much brains.

   Seriously I’m not some wii/360 plant, but I’ve been scowering the net for 2 hours cause I really want to know who is being blamed for this f’up of a system - there couldn’t be that many ppl that are that stupid - this had to be the work of 1 seriously retarded person - either way Sony’s getting what it deserves I guess.

8. The release isn’t too bad really. Noone remember the Xbox360’s burning consoles etc?
   It’s probably just getting out of hand due to the self-imposed hype.
   And, they are quite clumpsy with informing their own staff (two seperate people at CES said motorstorm had 1080p, the thing about the six-axis-emmy, the posting of not true release-date for heavenly sword and lair, and so forth…)

10. Ummm - seriously I would be pleasantly suprised if the ps3 did do decent. (my roomie is bringin one home this weekend - but i think he’s gonna be waistin his money) Look at the signs. This thing is destined for an early grave.

    1) This isn’t an everyman system
    2) Stores are already stocked with these like the Xbox (and not cause they have put out a good supply)
    3) The Six Axis sends a brand X - look we didn’t think our system was strong enuf so we half ass copied a competitor (buyers will look at that and see an advertisement for the better controller - wii)
    4) Blue Ray hold up - big problem in the battle against HD
    5) The price (while not that outragous) will look overly expensive to most
    - buy a blue ray game system and save money
    - I would if blue ray’s victory in this lil war was assured - but its not - That’s what ppl will think
    - So Sony’s big arguement for price is out the window
    6) Street Hype and Game Platforming - PS3 hasn’t sold much and you look at how important games are in making money on a system - when ppl pick which platform to put there games on, PS3 is in trouble bigtime

11. Do you guys have any reasons to think this system will do good? I mean give me some thoughts that the average consumer might think.

    IE Average consumer does not own an HD tv or want to spend 600$ on a system if he has too.

    Here’s the biggest thing. My roomie who I just talked about, is buying the ps3. He’s a huge PS3 fan boy, but all he did the last two weeks is talk about the wii. The only reason he’s not coming home w/ the wii is cause it’s sold out all over - a good thing for nintendo - and a bad thing for sony.

12. I guess it’s all about what you’re after.
    I want a “console” that gives me the highest possible definition & graphics (1080p), the best media possibilities (Blu-ray IS better than HD-DVD), great games (ie. games I like; that is FFXIII, MGS4, GT, GTA, Singstar etc.), free online availiability and so on.
    No other console availiable offers me that, so it’s an easy choice for me.

15. the ad does what it’s suppose to, and that makes it good. i’m in marketing, and you got to shake it up — this is the “keep it accessible” one. and i’m sure you’ve seen the edgier ones. it’s the full set of a campaign that will sell this console. as a side note, i have both systems, a PS3 adn 360, and believe it or not, i log about the same time on both. what i wish is i could just merge these bastards together and that would be that.

16. hmm, alot of hate. I have to say though Im slightly bemused by sony’s poor keynote presentation at ces 2007. Microsoft really pulled out some stops on there ugly but competant machine, while sony just re-told the same old.
    I thought 2007 was the start of a new year where sonys inter-personal relationship was going to be better commuicated to there audience. Im looking at microsoft and while I’m anticipating the playstation 3 and have been saving (I have $4000 for the uk launch. yes plenty of attachments) if I was just the normal consumer I would have fallen at the last hurdle after ces.

19. Nick, that article is great - I totally agree about their comments about Kaz Hirai, really he needs to either learn how to not seem like an arrogant hothead or be replaced! Some of the things he says are just embarrasing, and he just needs to stop speaking. Let Phil Harrison or someone like that deal with the public annoucements.

    When I was watching the commercial, they compared it to a cup stacker….why not show it’s graphical prowess compared to 360 and wii. It was alot like those commercials where the baby cries or the rubics cube explodes…retarded and pointless…like your trolling against me.

    Which I’m not doing per se, but I read about this blog and how it was pretty pro-ps3. SOO I figured this would be a good place to find somebody who actually has a good argument for the ps3 one day finding success. SOO FAR tho, havn’t really ran into anybody yet.

    I’m just saying I can point to numberous signs that say “HEY THIS THINGS GOING DOWN LIKE A BOMB SHELL!!” and the only arguments I’ve seen so far is that it has superior technology, which won’t matter for shit when games stop being made on it or it crashes on you 48 hours after you buy it.

25. I check in here most days as it’s one of the most interesting news sources and increasingly a good source for opinion from ‘readers’, but don’t normally input.

    I’ve no great issue with Good Nite coming on here to stir it up a bit. The best thing is that here it’s done in a context of this being a PS3 forum, so therefore there’s a lot more positivity to fling back at him, rather than the stupid anti PS3 nonsense that just runs and runs elsewhere.

26. Oh yeah, and while I’m here I think the PS3 WILL succeed (in Europe at least, can’t really comment on the rest of the world) but it will be a close thing. Don’t think the 360 will come close to victory over here in the long run - really, no one gives a sh*t about it. The Wii will take a lot of the market but on a far more ambitious level the PS3 will win out as a multimedia entertainment console. They got to start selling it right however… this forums a very good start but we need more stuff that speaks to people in the right way

27. ok good nite (night) what would you like to augue about?? i’ll get the ball rolling and say that blu-ray has alot more storage space then DVD (and HD-DVD)…also with the 60 gig model wi-fi out the box…how about blue tooth controllers (rechargable)?…how about true 1080p (over HDMI)…how about a free online service…how about i LIKE a compact console and NOT a rushed to market affair that is TRYING to play catch up,looking more like an electronic ‘octopus’ with crap hanging of it?…

28. I think the PS3 is going to do very well once they figure out their supply issues (which I think they have). I love mine. I’ve got Resistance, which is unbelievable (I just unlocked “Superhuman” mode), and NHL 2K7 (hey, I live in Canada).

    The PSN is great, and free. I was hooked up and online in less than 10 minutes (the PS3 auto detected my wireless network immediately). I have never experienced an outage, and it’s unbelievable playing against *30* other people in Resistance in an online game. Can’t wait for MotorStorm (the demo is very fun). I just hope they issue the update soon that allows us to download stuff in the background. My only complaint about the system is that you can’t do anything else once you start a download.

    Sony’s launch was a bit flawed, but the 360’s was as well. Both launched with existing titles ported to the new platform, but at least Sony had “Resistance” (I think 360 had Perfect Dark Zero? Ooooooh…).

    I’m probably going to get all 3 consoles eventually (Wii is next), but in terms of IP (God of War, GT, MGS, Devil May Cry), I’m in Sony’s camp to stay…

    the event in december was good. but how about some pro PS3 advert on the box and not just hundreds of DS lite ones on channel 4.

    oh and some sort of date &/or pre order seeing as its coming out in march.

32. Seed and other’s who are trying to ram me off my bridge.

    Ok, maybe I should appologize for offending you saying “ITS GOING DOWN LIKE A BOMBSHELL” …that sounds a little biased, but I’m just trying to get my point across to ppl like Seed who keep hitting me with the same argument.

    The cadillac sixteen was a top of it’s class luxury car. It had all the extras and cost a shit ton of money (i think half a mill but im not totally sure). Neways, even tho they had this awesome car they ended up scaling it back because there wasn’t a huge market for that kind of car, especially when a 10,000$ honda civic can do essentially the same thing.

    I keep running into all these ppl who would argue, “It’s got this” “It’s got that!”. GREAT! I don’t argue that it has some of the best tech on the market, blue-ray is perfect for games because on a disk that big you can put a hell of a lot of game…but are most ppl going to realize that? Are most ppl going to desire that enough to cough up 300 extra dollars when a wii or 360 will do essentially the same thing (entertain). I’m betting that most NORMAL ppl won’t. Hell I’ve highlighted other reasons. I’m not simply on here going PS3 SUCKS!

    I’m saying it’s bombing or going to and I’m giving alot of reasons. I came here to see if anybody had any better arguements for the console other than its got all the coolest gizmos - you know what - so did the dreamcast - sure thats a big selling point but I’m just curious what keeps you going with this console.

    Not trolling, I’m simply questioning you logic. I would offer up the thought that it’s ppls unwillingness to be open to discussion, a stuborness born of stupidity and arrogance that is embarassing and makes that look moronic - i find that a greater embarrassment than any misspelling or grammatical error. 33. Your Cadillac analogy isn’t applicable because in that example they scale back extras over time due to there not being a big enough market. Meaning the car had everything for a high price but then didn’t have as much for a lower price.

    With the PS3, the only thing being scaled back over time will be the cost of the console as productive cost falls. They won’t take away Blu-Ray, they won’t take away the hdd, etc. In fact you could say the PS3 will constantly be improving through firmware upgrades. The PSP sure has.

    People will buy the console at $600. Around a million people have shown that already. Personally, I wouldn’t spend that much on a console but that doesn’t mean I won’t ever be buying one. As time goes by, price will fall. And with each price cut they open the market to a wider audience.

    They know it’s expensive but they also know it was either that or go with DVD and have it cheaper. Clearly they are thinking longterm with the PS3 and in time, Blu-Ray costs will fall, meaning the PS3 will be able to sell at a much more reasonable price.

    There is nothing currently wrong with the Playstation 3 as a console. MotorStorm and Resistance have both already shown this.

35. Being the honest person I am, I felt I would be remiss if I didn’t come on here and tell you my first hand impressions with the ps3.

    Earlier I had come on here knocking it. I listed several reasons why I believed ps3 would go the way of the dinosaur.

    So my roommate divies up the money for this monster. And supprise it actually works really well. My only big complaint is that there are some resolution compatiblity issues ect and sometimes it crashes on you or glitches but I actually don’t find it to off putting as it is more of a computer than any other gaming system out ther.

    While I find it’s functioning very good, I would have to say it still has some horribly large hurtles to get over before it will find survival.

    Blue Ray will have to win over HD eventually
    HD is still leading the race (but it’s getting closer)

    PS3 is going to have to put out better games because so far I’ve only been impressed with NFS Carbon and the online gaming.

    It’s going to have to convince 3rd parties that it’s worth making games for, which is perhaps it’s hardest hurtle as it is already hugely behind the wii and 360. Although it is much MORE than the other systems it does cost more and it is behind in the “arms” race.

    Consiquently I would say while the system has the muscle to be number one, there is only one real solution which will save them, a HUGE price cut big big big. SO they sell massive amounts of systems and get back on top.

    If they can’t do this they are screwed and will remain in this position for a while if not the whole generation.

    While my criticism of thier tactics and price point is just as relevant I want to say that I now recognize that the system is a good deal - BUT as I said before, the cost of the system and with the rarity which people will get to experience all the “plusses” the system has to offer as a result of people being turned away from the cost. It is likely that this system could still end up the dreamcast/gamecube of this generation because the good word on the system was overwhelmed by bad hype, bad pub, and a horrible cost.

    NOTE: I’m getting the wii next weekend at which point I will truly know the extent with which ps3 is in a pickle (ie if i end up liking the wii more and it is considerably cheaper, then ps3 is fucked like a duck)
