Ok, maybe I must admit that I might try the MGO Beta…. But still, the update is a bit poor.
Hey, we can handle it, don’t we… We have experienced it all before :p
Comment by Niels R. — Apr 17, 2008 @ 1:44 pm
Dire.
I now look to the Wii’s virtual console updates because old games or not at least actual content is added.
This weekly dribble of nothing either means Sony are treating us mean because they have nothing else to offer or they cannot be bothered to cater to Europe’s needs.
Maybe their servers couldn’t cope with something decent that many would want - I certainly get crap download speeds when the system updates. Again.
Sony - get a grip and give us something real or just shut the damn thing for weekly updates and give us the bag of nothing once a month.
And to the people behind the store, what is you actually DO? because it’s sure not finding quality content.
Comment by Mark — Apr 17, 2008 @ 1:55 pm
Can’t believe people are still complaining in a week we get Metal Gear Online beta, Warhawk expansion, Sega Tennis demo, and, best of all, the SSHD expansion pack.
You will never get a better selection of content in a single week than that, on PSN, XBLA, Wii, anywhere. If you’re not happy I suggest selling your PS3 and finding a new hobby.
Comment by tw33t3rz — Apr 17, 2008 @ 1:56 pm

There’s an update to GT5P too, offered from within the game. I wonder what that is. Before I can begin the download, it warns me that this might destroy my save data and saved races. Isn’t that great!?
I haven’t managed to start MGS yet. I too has an update to be downloaded, but it either fails or crashes — Oops, GT5P download just failed as I’m writing… Awesome!

Comment by mobiletone — Apr 17, 2008 @ 2:42 pm
Do they think that we’ll be so excited by Metal Gear Online that we’ll forget we waited three weeks for:
A trailer we’ve all seen already,
an expansion/patch to a game no one bought due to *meh* reviews,
and… well, okay, lots of people will be happy with the WARHAWK stuff, but this is still a pretty crummy update.
Comment by Loxley — Apr 17, 2008 @ 2:44 pm
I’m somewhat amused by the amount of people rushing to download MGO. Just relax, you’ve got four days to download it before it goes live.
I’m even more amused by the people that whine about this update being “poor”. Take into account that we’ve got MGO beta without having to pre-order anything else to get a token, like the Americans, and we also had a mini-update on Tuesday, that came with the PSN overhaul.
I commend Sony for actually being able to pull off the PSN update/overhaul and content update without problems.
Comment by The-Unknown — Apr 17, 2008 @ 2:50 pm

haha christ almighty!!
Lair gets analogue controls, MGO beta is FREE for everyone in europe to play in a few days time and we still have moany sods like before. the reason your downloading MGO early is so that come monday its READY TO GO! your not spending valuable time downloading when you could be playing.
ive massive respect for threespeech some of the crap they have to put up with on here….staggering

Comment by Ton Capone — Apr 17, 2008 @ 3:42 pm
I’m not going to complain about the store content, but I’m not happy with the MGO beta.
You download 740+MB and the first thing you need to do is download the v1.01 update. The annoying thing is that - even though the ‘Peer to Peer’ option resumes from where you left off, every time there’s an error, you need to quit and restart the game in order to resume - which is tedious beyond belief!
Given that it was only made available today, could they not have uploaded v1.01 and saved everyone the trouble of updating?!
Comment by Paranoimia — Apr 17, 2008 @ 3:45 pm
People have a right to complain about what they want. To you who are so insecure about the store and start blaming xbox fanboys, you should piss off. Some people here (including me) only have a PS3 and can say what they want.
To they guy talking about the sega tennis demo tec, wow, something thats already been out and is shit. As for the SSHD update I’ve paid for the game I’m not going to pay just over half the price of the game again.
Comment by anon — Apr 17, 2008 @ 3:52 pm
You certainly can NOT say its a great update because “we got MGO beta”.
The beta is for the benefit of Konami, not you. You might enjoy playing it, but thats not why they are doing it.
That said, even ignoring the beta, its ok. Demo, patch, expansion packs. Fair enough really.
Comment by Pig — Apr 17, 2008 @ 4:06 pm
Now that the PSN is an application… can consoles in other regions still access it??
I’m curious, because if the Americas and Japan update to a new store, will EU owners still be able to get their fix of content from other stores????
In any case, I see no real reason to complain about what Sony release onto the store. All the demos and vids are free so anything is better than nothing.
Oh and if your entire life hangs around what Sony release or don’t release onto the PSN to the extent that you feel the need to come onto a semi not official type bloggy thing (that probably has very little impact at all with Sony) and give them abuse for not sorting out your demands, then umm… You need to find more things in life to occupy your time with.
Comment by SH4RKY — Apr 17, 2008 @ 4:36 pm
Even once you’ve downloaded the MGO Beta. Took me five hours with all the crashes you then find you need a Konami ID and a Game ID.
These are allegedly available when you register at https://id.konami.net
I’ve been trying for a long time now and surprise, surprise the site is overloaded.
Oh and for added humour there’s a problem with its certificate too complicating things for those trying to register by PC.
Pretty poor show.

Comment by nick — Apr 17, 2008 @ 4:53 pm
to quote Sony:-
“more functionality and a whole raft of new content.”
“users can look forward to a special update”
i guess this sums up waiting five minutes for the graphics to load into the store and the megre offerings in the way of content we have waited three weeks for then does it? it’s special alright, and the short bus is waiting outside for the whole lot of you who think we have to put up with yet another disappointment shoveled out from SCEE.
welcome to the future!
i dread to think what a complete cock-up the Home release will be seeing as SONY themselves have only estimated 25,000 users. can you spell server crash?

Comment by mobiletone — Apr 17, 2008 @ 5:02 pm
To the people saying that MGO is great and to stop moaning - it’s only great if you want that game. (and you can get past the obvious problems/bugs).
Fact is that other regions have a heap of stuff, Sony has access to a huge back catalogue but throw really bad PS1 games in there.
Sony COULD do more but they actively choose NOT to.
This pushes me - and others surely - toward XBLA and that means my money then has 2 places to go and less will go to Sony. I bought a PS1 on the day of release and been there since then but using PSN as an example of why to buy a PS3 is getting to be a joke.

Ah, those evil corporations. Let’s not forget that they sell games only to make money, you might enjoy them, but that’s not why they are doing it. xD

WTF?
Why build a torrent like update feature when you STILL get disconnected?
And why do I need to restart the game when the update fails?
Why wasn’t a more flexible retry system used? (Did they use one at all?)
Please learn from this to begin with Konami !!!
I’ll try some more GT5P in the meanwhile…….

Comment by madrabbit — Apr 17, 2008 @ 6:21 pm
Screw MGS. It’s a beta so it’s supposed to be broken. It’s free, so I don’t care.
What I’m more unsatisfied about is GT5P. While the downloading of the update does appear to resume where it continuously fails, the update itself appears to reset ALL your settings. Doesn’t seem very next-gen to me.
Polyphony Digital Inc. and/or Sony: FIX THIS SHIT!!!
Comment by Zta — Apr 17, 2008 @ 6:43 pm
It’s alright making a joke about it Omaesan and I agree some of the comments have been OTT but the fact remains it took me 5 hours to download both the beta and the v1.01 update and as for getting a Konami ID, you can forget it at the moment.
@THREESPEECH - Can you contact Sony / Konami to tell them to at least sort out the certificate for the website, part of it is out of date.

Comment by Dave — Apr 17, 2008 @ 7:09 pm
Like the new store. I can’t believe people are moaning when we have MGS online demo! If a beta of one of the most anticipated games on any system ever doesn’t count as a good update then I don’t know what does…
Still not sure why Sony doesn’t just put its massive back catalogue of games onto the store - is it really that difficult?. In fact, why not be really brave and let us buy your music and films through psn rather than itunes, amazon etc? then the ps3 may really become the digital media hub you keep telling us it is.
While I am at it. Where are the snow boarding games? SSX was huge on PS2. Even the Wii has a SSX title - don’t make me buy a Wii
Comment by gobucks — Apr 17, 2008 @ 8:18 pm
ROFL! What a load of shit SONY. The store icons take ages to load and aren’t even cached so the next time I access the store I have to wait for them to download again!
Did anyone NOT see this as a problem during testing? You did test it on PS3s outside your local SONY network surely?!?!?
The update was f*ing disgraceful as well, by the way.
Oh and to anyone moaning about the amount of complaints here, we all paid hundreds and hundreds of pounds for a next gen experience and we’re not f*king getting it. We have every right to voice our complaints.

I don’t think anyone here doubts your passion mate, but I think if you keep bashing your head against this brick wall you’re only going to end up with a sore head. Negativity breeds nothing but contempt. It’s not like your mortal enemies in the SCEE London office are sat there waiting with baited breath for your next tirade.
How about offering some constructive criticism rather than just slagging everything off. Or maybe we should just organise an MGO, Warhawk or CoD4 session with the Sony chaps so that you can vent your frustration that way (and vice versa).
I guess I thought it would just be nice to know that you actually enjoy your PS3 occasionally. Judging by your posts on this site, I have a mental image of it sat in the corner covered in dust, cowering in fear and dreading each and every Thursday.
Anyway, it won’t matter in a couple of weeks as I’m sure we’ll all be too busy in Liberty City to worry about bloody Singstar updates again.

Comment by whoelse — Apr 18, 2008 @ 10:43 am
Dan, week in week out people tried to be polite, constructive and above all calm but that seems to be met again with no comments that mean anything from ThreeSpeech and continued terrible updates.
It is totally understandable when people lose it, I mean its been 1 year and still its “meh” at best. Simple things seem to take forever such as getting games like puzzle fighter over here. Seems to be a lack of interest in them getting up PS1 games.
What worries me is when TS get bashed on here random new users leap to their defence. I still think TS create random accounts to say stuff.
Comment by anon — Apr 18, 2008 @ 11:24 am
I dont understand Tons frustration to be honest , nearly every publication story about the MGO gave a clear mesasge that the beta would begin on monday.
As i stated before the ONLY reason to download early is to be “ready” to jump into the beta on Monday and maximise your playing time. There is nearly always problems with betas (Halo 3 anyone?) and the teething problems are best sorted out before the Beta trial begins. This is Konami not EA folks they’ll sort it out.
Lastly some of the language on here is scandalous i know there is plenty of younger playstation fans who read threespeech and this kind of carry on is shocking.
Comment by Paul — Apr 18, 2008 @ 11:25 am

TS have nothing to do with PSN updates
My biggest problem is the constantly for the past year we are greeted by whiners and moany sods who have nothing better to do in life that post IN GAME XMB messages and SONY HATE EUROPE.
i didnt buy my PS3 for its weekly PSN updates. Some of you on here talk like thats all you bought it for.
Comment by Paul — Apr 18, 2008 @ 11:30 am
I have a few issues with the European store, like the categories being a bit lame, but I see that the net is also full of it, so I’m not going to bother whining about it. I think the store mechanics are vastly improved over the web browser thing that was. I’d have liked to see the pictures downloaded only the once, and kept for the next time I open the store. Waiting for them to download each time just seems remarkably obtuse to me. And finally, finishing my whinge when I thought I wasn’t going to, I’d like to see the audio of my theme carried through to the store mechanics too. But hey, after all of that, I think these are relatively minor niggles considering the improvements.
Things to do… align categories more along the lines of the US store, save the images in a cache for future use, fill store with other surprise content such as movies, for cheap as chips prices?
Comment by LordOfRuin — Apr 18, 2008 @ 11:43 am
I think people forget that the UK is ‘unfortunately’ tied to the European countries in terms of their game releases. This obviously stems from the old NTSC and PAL formats which are now mostly redundant with the new universal HD formats.
Being tied to Europe and the vast array of different languages and polices from each individual country just cripples the release process down to a poorly translated crawl.
No offense to anyone not from the UK… but I personally would prefer to be tied with America on the games front. English is English, HD is HD; the only difference would be the rating systems?
Comment by SH4RKY — Apr 18, 2008 @ 12:36 pm
tw33t3rz: “You will never get a better selection of content in a single week than that, on PSN, XBLA, Wii, anywhere.”

Nice to be classed as a new user, seeing as I’ve been knocking around for a while. And strange to be called out as a fake by somebody called ‘Anon’ too. But hey, it’s all good. I’ll stick my PSN in there from now on, so at least anyone who disagrees with me can blow my head off if we ever cross paths in WarHawk.
Just getting a bit tired of all the negativity. I have no problem with people ‘losing’ it, but some people seem to be doing it in every single thread which isn’t healthy. Nobody ever changed the world by whining like a girl everytime something hasn’t gone their way. If you want people to take you seriously, then complain in a serious manner and not just a barrage of random insults.
Comment by Dan (PSN-Detale) — Apr 18, 2008 @ 4:10 pm
Dan, I wasnt speficially refering to you as a “new user”. If you just take a look over some of the other topics, some users appear from thin air saying “dont post here again then” or “go get a xbox” or something, they then never post again.
:O. Its nice to see someone that posts more than one line though. Hopefully lots of constructive discussion going forward :D. Being called “anon” is just something I thought would be good on here since its what TS pretty much are. “semi official”
Paul, I hate the IN GAME XBM comments as much as the next guy. Its a feature that I dont care for or wont even be using. I dont see how posting it week in week out would make it appear at all. In terms of TS having nothing to do with official updates that is questionalbe at best. Considering they refer to them selves as “semi-official”. If you ask about a UK blog on the US blog, they point here. Meaning that this is the SCEE blog but they use the semi official line to fall back on so they dont really have to answer anything.
Lastly as an overall thing, some people went out bought this console for £425 or so at launch. They expected a certain service or were led to believe that certain things would be available/offered by Sony that have yet to appear. To be honest its absolutely disgusting to see how the UK get shafted in relation to the US consumers, not just in price but services as well.

Ton Capone is a Sony customer. He’s bought something (at the original extortionate price, as I recall) and he’s not happy with the way the product is functioning.
Now you could say that if he’s not happy with it, he should return it/sell it on. But he sounds like a loyal Sony fan…You know? The kind that Sony cannot afford to lose right now?
He’s simply expressing his opinion (although I don’t agree with the profanity) and he’s entitled to that.
