Over in Tokyo SCE boss Kaz Hirai has given the world a glimpse of PlayStation’s new programme ‘Life with PlayStation’. According to Hirai, “‘Life with PlayStation’ will bring unique content centering on two axis, place and time.”
The interface will be a globe based on a real-time weather satellite image complete with cloud patterns, and will provide access to news, photographs and other content, also allowing users to link to pages on the web.
“A release date and fuller details on the service will be announced “at a later date,” he said.”
nuhhhff said! how long have we been waiting for Home now?
not saying it doesn’t sound like a great idea but i’m fed up with yesterdays jam.

If one console offers something (e.g. Nintendo & the Wii News Channels) the others have to play catch-up. Trophies… in-game messaging… cheap downloadable titles… gamer cards… etc. etc.
Sony is really getting behind the big shiny dust magnet & promoting it to be the only ‘black box’ under TV’s in the future.
The PSP is becoming a remote control with offline capabilities that is also a camera… and a GPS device… and a telephone… and an internet browser!
If only we could put the mandatory PS3 installation game content onto external hard drives rather than the internal 60Gb or 40Gb model. I’m having to delete loads of demos to make way for the new Blu-ray titles released today.
That’ll teach me to download US ‘Store content ahead of European availability!
We are seriously going to need larger off-the-shelf internal capacities once “PlayTV”, “Life With PlayStation”, and the movie downloads facilities are available.
Interesting times ahead…

@three speech
could you tell me why nearly all my posts are not going up?
Comment by manley — Jun 27, 2008 @ 12:41 pm
@4 [manley]: I’ve had a similar issue with posts to another thread (”PS3 movie download service”) in the last hour. I just gave up trying after editing/re-formatting & removing text. There didn’t seem to be any ‘rule’ to the censorship. Usually it is when you quote http:// addresses (more than two per comment), but I removed those & still no joy
Perhaps you & I are blacklisted?

@2 - “We are seriously going to need larger off-the-shelf internal capacities once “PlayTV”, “Life With PlayStation”, and the movie downloads facilities are available.”
I doubt Sony will do that when it’s so easy to upgrade the drive yourself.
In truth, upgrading your own drive is probably far cheaper for the user than it would be if Sony started offering multiple off-the-shelf packages with varying capacities.
You don’t invalidate your warranty by upgrading, and you don’t even need to be technically minded to upgrade. It’s 5 screws and a lever… not rocket science!

Sony need to do less announcing and more releasing.
Comment by Matt — Jun 27, 2008 @ 1:21 pm
@6 [Paranoimia]:
Yes, I know it’s easy in principle (it is even stated in the user manual) irrespective of the initial batch of dodgy screws that were found to break, but sourcing the hard drive is probably going to be above the level of comprehension of a majority of families without any technical skill in this area.
If most people were ‘clued-up’ about such technical aspects then stores such as PC World wouldn’t need a Service Desk.
With the new (and smaller) cell processor chips possibly making their way (rumoured, at present) into a PS3 “Slim’n'Lite” model this fiscal year (to end of March 2009), this is an ideal opportunity to increase on-board hard drive capacities.
I’m not looking for multiple varieties of hard drive sizes; just one that is larger enough to cope with the demands over the next 12-24 months.
60Gb seemed huge on European release day, but just like a new briefcase you always fill to capacity & need a little more.
I would like to keep my release day 60Gb in the same state as I bought it for as long as possible, but maybe I’m just odd that way

i think i must be blacklisted cause it is alway the negative comments that seem to be blocked.
or maybe i dont have anything possitive to say at the mo?
i also agree with the HDD point that you made, i know full well how to change it but i dont want to loose all the things that i have on my current HDD, and the transfer process is the annoying thing, not the install! if i was smart i would have change my HDD on the first day that i bought the ps3, but as you stated most people including me thought that 60gigs would be more than enough.

I made a simple post about the lack of ‘coloured’ people in the garage in the gran turismo prologue screenshots a while back and that was blocked. I don’t no why as i was simply making a point and there is no racism at all in that.

Just release some decent games Sony you complete idiots.
Comment by Ton Capone — Jun 27, 2008 @ 6:59 pm
My “Life With Playstation” is fraught with disappointment, delays, no communication from SCEE/Sony, terrible ports and an endless parade of first person shooters whose only difference is the slightly different graphics in each, which by the way are actually getting worse rather than astounding me which they should be almost 18 months after launch.
All in all I conclude Hirai is living in some sort of bizzaro opposite world in which the PS3 is excelling rather than the stark reality which is that it is floundering like a fish on dry land.
I have had enough, I really have. If 2008 ends with the same whimper 2007 did then (most of you will welcome this!) you will have seen the last of me.

1 - Where is 2.4 (in-game xmb)
2 - Where are dualshock 3 controllers
3 - Where is home

Sounds like the Wii’s Weather Channel.
Nothing too exciting but it may be useful every now and then.

@12 [Ton Capone]:
What is it you wish to see released?
Perhaps if you offer constructive criticism with regards the type of games you wish to play rather than resorting to name-calling then you may find people are more inclined to help you.
Just a thought.

@ 15 (fanpages):
Ton Capone IS providing constructive hints to Sony. Unfortunately, Sony’s got far too many people that just go “Yay” every time any old crap is released by them…Someone like you.
Over & Out.

@18 [Zed Zee]
(As you’ve left the thread then you’ll probably never read this. Labelling people & thinking you’ve ‘won’ a point in a discussion seems to be catching)
I didn’t buy the “any old crap” called “Metal Gear Solid 4″ or “Grand Theft Auto 4″, and probably never will. I’ll wait to see what “Home” can offer me before I decide whether to use this product. If it is delayed to make the experience better, then that’s a good thing. If it is delayed indefinitely, I frankly couldn’t care less.
I will not ever play “WipEout HD”, so if that is released next month, next year, or never, is fine by me.
I cannot be bothered playing any more of “Gran Turismo 5: Prologue” as I find the game-play boring.
I imported a “DualShock 3″ controller in December, but didn’t like the weight of it, so rarely use it.
I am not a “Yay” consumer. If something does not suit me, I don’t buy it. That’s the point of a diverse portfolio of titles; something for everyone.
I’m glad some people find enjoyment from titles I do not. Profits made in one area help the brand develop in other areas (that I may be interested in).
My European release day console was money well spent & has given me & my family many, many hours of enjoyment.
The PlayStation Store & the PlayStation Network are made available for free. If one week the content on the ‘Store is not for me, I will look at the Japanese & US ‘Stores, and may find something there. However, if there is nothing in any region, then that’s OK with me. There any far too many game titles already available that I either own, or would like to own, and I do not have enough time to play anyway.
Don’t assume everybody except a few accept everything Sony offers to the marketplace.
It’s just the rest of us don’t see this as a direct attack on our freedom of choice & we do not take the reports of delayed or cancelled title personally.
If you feel you & Ton do have valid reasons to complain, may I suggest that submitting such ‘hints’ to somebody at Sony’s Customer Service team may be a more suitable starting point rather than commenting on blog site articles that may never be seen by Sony representatives at all.

But why is it then that US customers get their voice through via blog.us.playstation.com, I understand they read the customer feedback there and actually do react to it accordingly. This measle blog seems to shrink by the minute, back in the days I saw hundreds of responses, these days there’s a big announcement and only few dozen answers saying “cool” or “great!”.
I know the answer for this: people get tired of writing and waiting for answers when they’ve been burnt so many times already; they know it doesn’t mean a thing if they give constructive criticism because it won’t be seen by those who make the decisions.
After Phil’s departure SCEE has gone worse every month and it doesn’t seem to be getting any better. In my humble opinion SCEE should understand that fans of Playstation brand on this continent don’t like being treated as second class citizens year after year.
Comment by kulmanister — Jul 1, 2008 @ 10:33 am
I don’t think SCEE, or the PlayStation 3 brand, has had a notable decline since Phil Harrison left (on 29 February this year). In contrast it is not as if Infogrames Entertainment’s new Directeur Général Délégué has made a mark in the last few months either. The success or failure of any large organisation is never down to one person anyway.
On 15 April 2008 we have had a revamp of the PlayStation Store, and as of today we have “DUALSHOCK 3″ wireless controllers, and firmware revision 2.40 in Europe (with lots of new functionality; a majority of which has been submitted in comments made to Sony in the past).
You can, of course, submit UK/Europe-based comments on the US Blog if you wish, but on 11 June it was reported that “…we’re speaking with our counterparts in Europe to bring more PlayStation news to you from that part of the world. We know you’re reading us from across the Atlantic, and we haven’t forgotten about you”.
[ http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/06/11/playstationblog-is-a-year-old-today/ ]
I do not understand your comment about being “burnt so many times already”. Where has SCEE or the PlayStation 3 brand let you down? What promises have been made to you that you do not feel have been fulfilled?

fp.
