If you think you’ll be getting bored of watching the endless Christmas re-runs, playing board games with tipsy relatives and coming up with turkey-based meals, there’s no need to worry anymore. Science and technology news site PhysOrg has a good article on the Cluster Workshop project. When boredom sets in we suggest you give the article a read and then head over the the Cluster Workshop site and start building yourself a supercomputer out of your PlayStation 3. Alternatively you could always just play games on it… Up to you really…

I wonder at what resolution KillZone 2 would run at if you had 4 PS3’s. Actually the smartest thing that Sony can do with the PS4 is to keep the basic architecture and API identical, therefore no learning curve on the new box for existing PS3 devs, and just put in a beefier main processor and gPU and a ton more SPUs. Thus avoiding the backwards compatible debacle they had this generation and still being able to pump out games at native 2160p at 120fps!!! Not forcing devs to relearn a whole new toolset will pay off massive dividends.

You know Carl….
That’s got to be probably the most sensible argument/prediction for what/if the successor to the PS3 would be like in terms of design specs…
Keep the architecture the same but oomph up the number crunching potential with more of what you’ve got already…..
Additionally it would allow developers to get into bed with parallel/multi-core programming with the ps3 and come out uber-studs for the ps4 using all the karma-sutra based programming awesomeness to good effect.
If the Wii can do it for the Gamecube…..
If the 360 can do it for the Xbox…..
PS3 could do it for the PS4……?
