E-ROLE drops by to tell us why he is looking forward to the release of Killzone 2…
Killzone 2 was first shown at E3 2005, surrounded with the controversy of a pre-rendered clip, ever since then Killzone 2 has been a closely scrutinized and hotly anticipated game. Since then we’ve been treated to some great game play videos, screenshots and interviews. These have given us the chance to see that Killzone 2 meets the expectations of that pre-rendered clip, and in some ways surpass it. Being a participant in the Killzone 2 beta, I can tell you that it is a beautiful looking game with incredible graphical effects, dark and war torn skies and sound that will blow you away. If you are one of the lucky souls to have 7.1 surround, this is the game for you. You truly feel immersed in the experience as you battle your way through such a beautiful battlefield. Guerrilla games have done an amazing job in making you feel the game. You can feel the weight of your soldier with every turn, jump and crouch and that gives a refreshing realistic touch. The weapons, as far as I’m concerned, are the best I’ve ever had the pleasure of firing. Every weapon has its own character and feels different to fire, the attention to detail and recoil you get are remarkable.
The single player game is something I can’t wait to get my hands on; the trailers show a truly immersive experience and excellent cinematic cut scenes. The characters seen in the trailers have shown to be pretty interesting with “Rico” being the only character to return from the first game. Although this time round you don’t play as multiple characters, but instead as Sgt. Tomas “Sev” Sevchenko, a new character with a fresh new background.
One thing that has been shown off in trailers and numerous articles is the new cover system, something I really can’t wait to try out as it was kept out of multiplayer beta. The AI has been vastly improved; the Helgan will take an active role in outflanking you, suppressing you and generally being a total pain! Never has a FPS shooter been more demanding of your attention.
The multiplayer is amazing, as far as I’m concerned it’s up there with Call of Duty 4 and the chance to level up your character and enjoy multiple game modes really gives you a unique and engaging experience. The one thing I noticed in multiplayer is the way the game modes are structured to encourage team work. I often found myself with a team of guys all trying to secure the objective together. Yes, you do get this in most other games but the sense of comradeship in Killzone 2 is second to none, you feel you really are working as a team.
With Killzone 2 only a matter of weeks away until its release, I’m happy to know there’s one hell of an immersive, beautiful and well executed game coming my way. A game I’ve been waiting for years to play is finally here and I’m positive it won’t disappoint.

Threespeech. it is NOT A PREVIEW unless he has PLAYED the FULL game. Please for the love of god stop these silly articles

A REVIEW should be representative of having played the full game. A PREVIEW can be a look into what’s expected based on what’s available. Think of previews in the movies; they’re not the full movies, just trailer previews of what’s to be expected.

@carl
May not have played the game, and nothing new mentioned but it’s still a nice read.
Wouldn’t say they were silly articles, would actually go as far to say that the TS team are both letting the user opinion be given a chance to shine aswell as letting folk put up material on a reasonably well known site that could easily be the boost to open doors into the industry.
I say carry on

Blamm! BLAAAAM!
Comment by MrJimmy — Jan 20, 2009 @ 5:29 pm
Is E-ROLE an industry insider who’s got an early copy of the finished game?
If not, then this preview is invalid, on the basis that he/she’s not even seen the damn thing in motion.
Comment by Zed Zee — Jan 20, 2009 @ 6:26 pm
Come on guys let them be, let the hype go on. After all this game had had a ton full of bashing in it’s development stage. KILLZONE 2 RULES ALL!

Please for the love of god, stop your poorly thought out comments…
As Seconar said the word preview & review are different. A review is given by playing the full game. While a preview are impressions based on some limited hands on time (Even professional games journalists write preview articles based on their experience of closed door “demos”). Assume that E-ROLE has not had hands on time with gold code, only Beta. But “E-Role gives his views on KZ2″ is not such a catchy title. So “preview” is acceptable.
Carl you also chimed in on the LBP compo saying it’s US only it’s not. If you took the time to click the link and read, that would be another (wrong) comment avoided.
& lastly you had to mention Haze had a 1000 page script in the Heavy Rain post. Which has exactly, what to do with the price of tea in China? Since the script in HR is 2000 pages long.
If you don’t like the articles simply don’t read them. Personally feel these reader provided articles are a sign that threespeech wants/is providing more user interaction & isn’t that something worthwhile?
If anything it makes me want to actually update, my long dormant blog & get some of my gaming insight out into the open.

This is more like a press release.
everyone is looking forward to this release so some nobody’s fanboy ramblings are utterly redundant.
Stick to the news ThreeSpeech.

I would suggest the series is called “Most Anticipated ‘09″ as I feel “preview” has the connotation that the person has played the full game. Just my 2 Euro cents worth.

Wow what’s with all the negative flaming? I thought this is a nice preview, and the second in a series of previews from ThreeSpeech regulars, my ‘preview’ on Heavy Rain being the first. E-ROLE has even been on the beta - which is more than I had for my Heavy Rain preview and I didn’t get any backlash like this?
ThreeSpeech have selected a number of regulars to contribute these articles, to get a perspective on the 2009 PS3 lineup from a fans point of view - WTF is your problem?
As it clearly says on the About Us page:
“We hope to create an environment that is balanced, open minded and intelligent, and that avoids the routine of fanboy warfare..
We bring together people who have something valid and engaging to say about gaming and digital entertainment. Anyone’s invited to respond to threads; also to contact us about coming on board as a guest blogger. ”
I can only imagine this negativity stems from two things:
1) the game is weeks rather than months away
2) it’s an emotive title in the continuing fanboy warfare between PS3 and 360 fanboys.
I notice it’s even enough to bring my old friend ZedZee out of his troll hole! BTW ZedZee in response to your earlier comment in another article about it not being a Gears 2 or Halo killer two things:
1) this is a different type of game with different gameplay
2) check out the Official Xbox Magazine Blog preview of KillZone 2 where they concede that graphically it surpasses Gears 2 and it gives the upcoming Halo add-on a lot to live up to - this remember from the OFFICIAL 360 MAGAZINE!
@ E-ROLE, ignore these fanboys, it was a nice personal incite into your *personal* experience with the game. I’m just glad I chose Heavy Rain for my preview! I assume you receive the same ‘gift’ for your contribution? If so ignore them, safe in the knowledge they don’t know what you got for doing it!!!
@ Carl and the other the fanboys - here is the dictionary definition of a Preview:
i) a piece printed in a paper or magazine or broadcast on radio or TV describing and commenting on something that is soon to be broadcast or presented to the public
ii) a sample or foretaste of something likely to occur in the future
Where does it say you need to play the full game exactly? Remember if you don’t like what ThreeSpeech stands for then you are welcome to leave and find PS3 news and opinions elsewhere…
Comment by Apnomis — Jan 21, 2009 @ 11:26 am
Can I remind everyone that Apnomis had also done a preview of Heavy Rain. Preview is a perfectly good way to describe it, i understand if it were a review and said reviewer had not even toucned the game. But previews are just insights into the game, they offer up questions and ideas.
Comment by E-ROLE — Jan 21, 2009 @ 11:28 am
@Apnomis
Oh you have such a way with words you charmer. I’m sure mobiletone will be gallant enough to provide you with a cookie.
Comment by E-ROLE — Jan 21, 2009 @ 11:32 am
BTW the way E-ROLE, to try and get this back on topic, I’m really glad to read that the sound is good! I love it when games spend as much effort on the soundtrack as they do on the graphics.
I am the lucky owner of a Yamaha RX-V3800 High Definition Receiver and 7.1 Kef Q-series speakers - so I’m expecting to be equally blown away by audio as I’m sure I will by the graphics (on a 46″ 1080p/24 plasma)!
Thanks for ***previewing*** the 7.1 soundtrack for me E-ROLE
Comment by Apnomis — Jan 21, 2009 @ 12:14 pm
E-Role has had a play, and kindly given me another preview of the fun that I am patiently waiting for. Thank you pal. I can read these little gems all day, as long as I can glean some new aspect of the much anticipated game. Though I find it odd that the cover system wasn’t in place for the multiplayer. Is this just on the beta you think? I assume so, because I’m sure I’ve seen video of multiplayers behind cover. Mmm! Not so sure now though.
I’m falling behind on my games. I get to play most through the once, but before I get to hone my skills and have another blast though, another worthy release comes along and distracts me. Well, mostly new releases, Warhawk still gets spanked for an hour or so every day. What a genius game that is. I’m hoping that Dylan Jobe was talking about Warhawk2 when he spoke with Sony this week. Please please please!
Comment by LordOfRuin — Jan 21, 2009 @ 12:38 pm
@ LordOfRuin, there is no cover system in the multiplayer modes - see yet another piece of info gained by someone from E-ROLE’s preview!!!
Guerrilla Games figured the ‘Lean and Peak’ system of the single-player game didn’t fit with the 360 degree combat of multiplayer and players were working against it:
QA Manager Seb Downie on the Official US Forum:
“It didn’t work too well in the 360 degree combat environment that is multiplayer. In single player the path is more linear and the action is usually ahead of the player. In MP levels are more arena based and you are more susceptible to flanking and being attacked from various angles.”
“We found that the L&P system didn’t add anything in that scenario and that players often actually took a step back from cover objects to give themselves a little more freedom to move, so they were actually working against the system, so we ripped it back out, Crouching was deemed sufficient.”

Least i’m not in aberdeen at the moment - then i’de be one giant icicle!
Comment by JohnSketch — Jan 21, 2009 @ 9:02 pm
Here’s some more info to add the preview. The wind physics system affects the trajectory of thrown grenades, which for most people isn’t anything earth shattering, but the attention to detail does not stop there. Walking into the wind, means you walk slightly slower and with the wind do your back you move faster than normal. Big can of AWESOME from Guerilla.
