SOCOM Confrontation arrived this month and Three Speech has spent a little while getting to grips with it. The thing with SOCOM Confrontation is that it does a fantastic job of creating a tactical environment where players use their own strategic decisions to get ahead in the firefight. This is part of the reason that we have been relentlessly dying. However, it’s a learning process that leaves you feeling more and more empowered with each successfully executed kill.
SOCOM Confrontation is a [very] tactical third person shooter that is played exclusively online. SOCOM Confrontation’s focus on online team-based play with unforgiving penalties means that spending time with it can actually result in a much more engrossing and tense experience. Working as a team becomes essential, as if you don’t communicate and watch each others backs then you’re likely to fail or die within seconds.
From our experience with it we found that all of the teams we joined communicated consistently, and all had good quality headsets. This meant that the team chat channel was very much alive - until we accidentally rebounded a grenade off of a wall at point blank range and killed half our team. If you’re looking for a game to dedicate time to and perfect skills with, then it would be a good idea to give this a go. The game can be intimidating at first, but once the ice is broken by accidental friendly fire you’ll fit right in.
Get hold of a boxed copy in stores with an essential headset, or alternatively just download it from the PlayStation Network for half price!
Great, Except Americans have had Socom since October, And by November it was as stable as the release we got in MARCH.. (yes, thats Last Month, not this one)

I enjoyed the beta but now we have better shooters - like Killzone 2!

A free map pack for the european version would be welcome. I wont be buying it until there is a price cut say half price, to make up for the 6 month delay

Tried the beta……it was meh…….I cant see SOCOM making a come back now, it was too late and has been pipped to the post by Killzone 2, which in my opinion can be equally as tactical and stealthy etc.
It took them long enough to patch the game to make it complete….dont know how it went gold in USA with all the problems I heard about.
I guess thats why it was delayed over here though, due to SCCE’s tight QA standards….which aint a bad thing

the 6 month dealy was there for a reason mainly to clean up all the millions of bugs and connection issues that was in the us version. and th eu version works much bette rit still has some problems and stupid desing choices but is a decent game whit good teamwork focus

I traded some old PSP games in today and bought SOCOM, primarily for the H/S. I thought it might be worth a few trophies too, unfortunately it just feels really, really crap.
Problems with SOCOM:-
1. It has a ‘Modern Warfare’ setting. Bad move, Infinity Ward just did that, only much better.
2. Online only, 3rd person shooter. Hmmm, I’ll stick with Warhawk.
3. Released in the UK within a fortnight of Killzone 2, oh dear.
4. Countless bug issues, leading to lengthy delays.
Realistically this game never stood a chance.

@ Divine
I think I’ll just buy the new headset on its own then.

I lost interest in this game when I found out that it was released in the US, and then put back and put back and put back in the UK with no viable reason as to why!
Then it appears that the game is bug ridden and naff?! A major selling point in my opinion! lmao
Now we can finally get to play it, oh, but the rest of the world has had how many months to practice and learn the maps etc.? Oh, now that would be a really fun enjoyable game to play, spawn, die, spawn, die, spawn, die…. nah…. I’ll give it a miss thanks!

I managed to trade R2 for Socom - so it only cost me the cost of the postage (£1.50). Seems a fair price for a game with only 4 maps (the other 3 are recycled Socom 2 maps) & the long list of missing features. So far, I have patched it twice but haven’t bothered to play it and won’t play it until the 1.50 patch ships as it may resemble the game they always wanted it to be. Dunno how long before the 1.50 patch ships though.
It’s a shame to see Socom getting a hammering in the reviews as it used to be the darling of the PS2 online scene (I played S2 for 3 years straight). I guess times have moved on and Confrontation has taken a step backwards so it was always on a hiding to nothing. Giving it to an un-tested PS3 developer didn’t help - SCEA really dropped the ball with this one.
I see in the press release the other day that SCEA released a statement stating that MAG wasn’t an iteration of the Socom franchise - after someone in SCEA said it was. Obviously a move to dissassociated MAG from the critically panned Socom. Shame really. Probably denotes an end to the Socom franchise altogether…
